Freya 2023

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,

I love the name [name_f]Freya[/name_f] but I didn’t realise it’s been in the top 10 for around 10 years!

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know many Freya’s and do you think this name will be too common over the next decade?

Ps I also like

[name_f]Ferne[/name_f]
[name_f]Frederica[/name_f]
[name_f]Frieda[/name_f]

It might depend on where you’re from! If you’re from the states, some names are more popular in certain states than others.

I live in the UK and I’ve stumbled across two Freyas, one was 19 and the other a little kid. It depends on your definition of common! A little Freya would definitely meet other Freyas in her lifetime, but she wouldn’t necessarily have another Freya in her class or future workplace.

It’s certainly a lot more popular than your other favourites, so that’s something to keep in mind if you want to have more than one child in the future! I’m also recommending Graihagh (pronounced like Freya with a hard G!), Freesia, Fleur, Flora, Ferelith and Fauna!

I’ve known several Freyas and I have heard it being called a lot too. So yes, it is popular if you’d prefer to avoid a popular name.

[name_f]Ferne[/name_f], [name_f]Frederica[/name_f] and [name_f]Frieda[/name_f] are lovely!!

[name_f]Freja[/name_f] is the Norwegian alternative.

The old Anglo-Saxon version is Fritha/Frith, which I love.

I’m from midwest USA and I only know of one [name_f]Freya[/name_f] who’s under 3.

I really appreciate all of your replies!! :sparkling_heart::sparkling_heart::sparkling_heart:

It strikes me as really popular in the U.K., I was at school with a few of them and so was my much younger brother, and I’ve heard it used a lot on little kids now.

Seconding Fritha or Ferelith as potential alternatives

its true when people say that popularity depends on where you’re from. i live in america and i’ve never met a freya, matter of fact i honestly didn’t know of the name freya until a few years ago!

Personally I have never met a [name_f]Freya[/name_f] of any age.

I do feel it’s more popular in the UK than the US. But it is rising in popularity in both. As its top 10 in the UK and and just outside the top 100 in the US.

So if you never want your baby to share a name with someone or want her to be the only one people know it might not be the name. However as others have pointed out, popularity varies by region so you may not have a many in your area.

[name_u]True[/name_u]! Out of interest- is [name_f]Frederica[/name_f] known in [name_u]America[/name_u]?

the very few frederica’s i’ve met or known of were latine, but definitely not unheard of. feminizing masculine names like frederico or alejandro, for example, are quite common here!

i live in the uk and i know 2 Freya’s my age, 1 who’s around 16, and about 7 who are under 10 so it’s definitely popular here but it can depend. can i throw [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] in as a possible alternative?

I live in the UK and I have encountered a few Freya’s. One I went to school with (she actually bullied me so badly but that’s a different story) she’d be 28, another [name_f]Freya[/name_f] I’ve encountered is ten years old and finally another one is a little [name_f]Freya[/name_f] who goes to my daughter’s toddler group.
I think [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is popular your [name_f]Freya[/name_f] most likely would encounter other Freya’s but I don’t think she’d be one of five Freya’s in a class or whatever. She has steadily been in the top 50 girl names in the UK charts for a while so I could see her being popular but not overwhelmingly so like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. However I wouldn’t allow popularity to stop you from using a favourite name. If you love a name use it :white_heart:

Your f alternatives are beautiful however I think [name_f]Freida[/name_f] would be an amazing alternative too [name_f]Freya[/name_f] they have shared sounds, are short and spunky with a European flair. [name_f]Freida[/name_f] is lovely.

Other ideas could be [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Fernanda[/name_f], [name_f]Farah[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] & [name_f]Fauna[/name_f].

I’ll just echo what others have said in that it depends where you are. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is the sixth most popular girls name in the UK. I really like it but wouldn’t use it for that reason.

well guys, i met a freya yesterday, so i guess i take this back now hahaha

At least in the states, I think that I’ve never actually meet a [name_f]Freya[/name_f], but I did hear a pair or parents calling their about 3 year old child [name_f]Freya[/name_f].

I absolutely love the name [name_f]Freya[/name_f], specifically spelled [name_f]Freja[/name_f], and I think that it is an awesome choice! While I do think that the name is becoming more popular, I don’t think that it is overly popular yet, and it definitely is still usable
