Freya Frances or Hazel Frances? She's due in a few weeks. Please help!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there,

I would so appreciate feedback on these two names. Our baby girl is due in a few weeks and we still can’t decide on her name.

We know her middle name will be [name_f]Frances[/name_f] (that is also my middle name), but can not choose between [name_f]Freya[/name_f] or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] for her first name. My husband loves [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and I lean more towards [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. Two totally different names with such different vibes, so this is really quite difficult.

We have two sons already. Their names are [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] ([name_u]Max[/name_u] is what we call him) and [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m].

Neither [name_f]Freya[/name_f] nor [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] are popular names where we live (in [name_f]Canada[/name_f]), but I would say [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is more familiar. My husband, being born and raised in Northern Germany, is super keen on naming her [name_f]Freya[/name_f] because it is a Scandinavian name and has a really interesting meaning (in Norse and Germanic mythology, Freyja was the [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] of beauty, love and fertility). I love the soft and gentle sound of [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and feel like it is a charming vintage name - full of whimsy and sweetness. But I could live with [name_f]Freya[/name_f] as well, even though - to me - it may come across as more spirited and strong. Our last name is a two-syllable [name_m]German[/name_m] name that starts with D.

Any feedback on these two names would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Between the two names I like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] better. I like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]'s softer, vintage quality. But I feel like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] may contend better with the strong names of your boys. Sorry if that’s not terribly helpful.

My vote is for [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] as well

I like both names but prefer [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] as a combo. I don’t love [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] (too much ‘F’).

I like both, but in your case I choose [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. It seems like it would be special to your husband. I also agree with your point about it sounding more spirited and individualistic than [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. Both of your sons have rather stand out names, and I feel like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] would sound better next to them.

I prefer [name_f]Freya[/name_f], though I like both. But I think, if possible, it would be a good idea to decide when you meet her which name fits her best.

I love [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. I spell it Freyja

While I love both [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], I much prefer [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. Personally I’m not keen on the ‘fr’ repeat at the beginning of both names. [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is just divine!

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] has a much better flow and sound, however it’s really sweet [name_f]Freya[/name_f] means a lot to your hubby. Might I suggest [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] or vice versa, [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]? Perhaps even using all three?? [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]? It would definitely break up the repeating “fr” sound.

Sounds like it would be a great idea to use both! [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] would be stunning, and that particular order breaks up the repetitive Fr- sound. Plus, you both win that way!

Of the two I prefer [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. I just really love the way it sounds and feels to me, and I love it’s myth! [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]'s beautiful and I do love it but I feel like I see and hear it everywhere. It’s lost a bit of its charm for me, but it is still a very beautiful name!

I agree that [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] sounds better but [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] sounds just fine in my opinion. I also really love the suggestion of [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]! And [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] too. Since she’s already getting your middle name, maybe you could use [name_f]Freya[/name_f] so that he gets a special part of the name too? I don’t think you could go wrong either way.

I like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] more! Very pretty!

I like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] more. I agree with some other posters that [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is a bit much Fr. But how often are you going to use the full name? I also think [name_f]Freya[/name_f] fits better with your boys’ names.

I also agree with the previous poster who said, if you are torn between the two, why not wait until you meet her and see which one feels right?

Between the two first names, I do think [name_f]Freya[/name_f] would be cool, but not with that middle. With [name_f]Frances[/name_f] I would use [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. Another poster suggested [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f], I think that would work. I like the idea of two middles, but it’s a burden for the individual who has to use those names unless they’re smaller names (think about filling out forms and such). But those three names are small enough to use all three, and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] in the middle would break up the Fr- sounds.

I prefer [name_f]Freya[/name_f] over [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], but [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is too much alliteration for me. So [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] gets my vote

Both are pretty but I think that [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is a better combination. Congratulations!

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] for me!

I love both! I prefer [name_f]Freya[/name_f], but I agree with others that [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] makes a better combo. I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] gets my vote. I love the name [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and also think it matches [name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] nicely.

I like [name_f]Freya[/name_f], but don’t like the sound of [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f].

It’s hard when you’re split between two names, as one of you “loses out” on your name of choice. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any runners up that you both could like?

I definitely like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] better
