Freya?

How popular will [name_f]Freya[/name_f] get in the US? [name_f]My[/name_f] older sister had a friend [name_f]Freya[/name_f] growing up, who would be 26 now. It was completely unheard of then. However I worry with its popularity in the UK and its quick rise in the US it will get very popular. For reference its #200 in 2019. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you see it being a top 100 name? (I’m thinking yes) Top 50? Top 10?? Thanks guys!

I definitely [name_f]Freya[/name_f] will make it into the top 100, but I’m not sure about the top 50/10. It just seems like a perfect name for the upcoming generation of parents. It has mythology/literature roots which I think is extremely important, it’s easy to say and spell, it doesn’t lead to a bunch of nicknames which I think is becoming trendy. [name_f]My[/name_f] predictions are are a bit random, but yes! I think it will end up in the top 100 :slightly_smiling_face:

I think maybe top 100, but I doubt it will be in the top 50 or 10. It’s easy to say and spell as @baya44 said. It has interesting roots which make it a good contender, but it also has a pleasing sound. However, I think it may sound too Scandi for some— it doesn’t seem easily American like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. But I think that it’s mainstream enough to gain popularity.

Freya has jumped so much in the past few years. It wasn’t in the top 1000 until 2013 and jumped from #266 to #200 in just a year. There are also some variants such as [name_f]Freyja[/name_f] that aren’t included in that.

I do see it being a top 100 name and a top 50 name, probably not a top 10 name, at least not for a while. I believe the next gen top 10 names will be less likely to end in vowels and have a few more consonants.

This was my thought when I was considering it for a future daughter. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a bit out there and not American enough for me I decided, for now anyway.

Follow-up question: Does [name_f]Freya[/name_f] go with [name_u]Indie[/name_u], [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]?

I do see it gaining popularity, especially as it’s so popular in the UK

Freya is a name I love, but I am so worried about the popularity! I have a feeling that it will get super popular like [name_f]Mia[/name_f] even!

Agree.

I live in the US and in my “real” (offline) life I’ve never heard of, let alone met, a [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. I can see it being Top 100, but I’d be surprised if it cracked the Top 50 or higher. That’s just me, though, and I’ve been wrong and surprised before (example: [name_f]Luna[/name_f], about which I’m still surprised).

I don’t think the US has close enough ties with Scandinavia for it to reach the top of the charts as it has in the UK. Maybe in states with a lot of Scandi heritage like Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc.

I could definitely see it reaching the top 100 but maybe not for another few years. Probably not the top 50 and definitely not the top 10, if I had to guess.

It totally does… I love [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]Juno[/name_f] together

I can see it getting more popular, especially if a celebrity uses it. It’s been very popular in the UK for 10+ years and a lot of popular British names get exported to [name_u]America[/name_u] (e.g. [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], etc).

I can see it reaching top 100, but even if it does, entering top 10 would be a long process - probably a decade or so
