I guess because it has been on my list for so long I am having doubts to use it on a future child (we will probably be TTC April-ish next year so 1+ years away and no guarantee of gender ) but I find girl names difficult in the sense there are so many I’ve loved for so long they sound old/boring. I loved Freyja due to the Goddess association and the NN Rey since Star Wars The Force Awakens
How popular is Freyja (or the variant spellings) where you are?
In Australia, Freya is #58 in the 2022 McCrindle Baby Name Report with an 8-spot drop.
It’s very popular here in the UK (Top 10) but it’s a lovely name. A few friends have had little girls called this in the past few years, and weirdly two used the rare (here) [name_f]Freyja[/name_f] spelling – I wouldn’t be surprised if that rises a bit in English-speaking areas as a way to differentiate it a bit and give it a more Scandi-cool flavour.
[name_f]My[/name_f] lovely mid-20s SIL is also a [name_f]Freya[/name_f], born at the start of its popularity rise. I think my MIL is quite cross that it’s become so popular!
[name_f]My[/name_f] younger cousin is named [name_f]Freja[/name_f] because her father was Hungarian but I still heavily prefer [name_f]Freya[/name_f] personally.xx
I don’t know how popular it is here, but my daughter’s middle name is [name_f]Freya[/name_f], so I obviously love it! Putting it in the middle spot to get around popularity is also an option (that’s not why we did it, but you could if it bothers you to use it as a first).
I live in the Midwestern US. I know of one [name_f]Freya[/name_f], around 1.5 years old. I know one cat named [name_f]Freya[/name_f], too, lol.
I don’t know how popular it is elsewhere but we haven’t quite caught on here yet.
