[name_f]My[/name_f] grandma was from [name_f]Italy[/name_f] and her name was [name_f]Era[/name_f]. I’d love to give my baby girl her name but I’m not sure. It means “guardian” and it’s the Italian version of [name_f]Hera[/name_f] - goddess of marriage, women, and family, and the protector of women during childbirth. The meaning in [name_f]English[/name_f] is completely different, though. What do you think?
I think [name_f]Era[/name_f] totally works!! I have a friend named [name_f]Era[/name_f] who is in her mid-20s, and it fits her very well!
I think it fits in well with names now, as it has popular sounds (similar to [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and Ella) but is still unique!!
Overall, I’d say go for it - it’s a great way to honor your grandmother and a lovely name
Is it pronounced as ear-uh or eh-ruh?
Either way, it is a powerful name - short but meaningful, distinctive and interesting!
[name_f]My[/name_f] only doubts would be that it could sound like the word ‘era’ (as in a period of history/time) or like ‘error’ potentially? I don’t think it’s a huge deal, but some people might raise an eyebrow
I like it! Maybe you’d like [name_f]Eira[/name_f] or [name_u]Ira[/name_u] as well?
I think it’s usable! While it will most likely be perceived as the [name_f]English[/name_f] word, I don’t see any issue with it.
It’s pronounced as the word ‘era’ (period of time) that’s why I’m not so sure
I love it!!! [name_u]Unique[/name_u] and a beautiful family name.
I am from [name_f]Italy[/name_f] too and I have [name_f]Hera[/name_f] and [name_f]Raissa[/name_f] (names related to the goddess Hera) in my extended list I sort of like the name [name_f]Era[/name_f] in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] but I don’t like it much out of it because I am afraid that it would be perceived as a word name, but you have convinced me a bit! [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Era[/name_f] would be lovely.
my initial reaction was “this post was written by a [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] [name_m]Swift[/name_m] fan” (with the whole eras tour) turns out it wasn’t anything to do with that at all… so if you don’t mind being mistaken for a Swiftie then it’s probably fine
