[name]Constant[/name] lurker, but first time poster on the 'berry boards. And this because today I asked my nephew what he would name his child if he had one.
Ready for this? [name] Bartholomew [/name] [name]Pikachu[/name] [name]Jones[/name] G.
It reminded me of the story my mother likes to tell: apparently, at age 2, I wanted to name my soon-to-be-born sister “W” after the “W” club on [name]Sesame[/name] [name]Street[/name]. While her first name became [name]Jessie[/name] as opposed to W, they did compromise with her mn, [name]Wray[/name].
Anyone else ask a child their naming opinions and laugh afterwards?
Ambeth: [name]Amelia[/name] + [name]Bethany[/name]? Or you could claim it came from the Latin ambio - to walk around, surround, beseech. You never know, it could be the new [name] Amber[/name]!
When I was 2, I suggested the name [name]Camby[/name] for my unborn sister. My parents named her [name]Abby[/name], so maybe they liked the last syllable. [name]Abby[/name], for her part, named most of her childhood stuffed animals [name]Rainbow[/name] [name]Katie[/name].
When I was five, my parents asked me what I wanted to name my new baby sister. I heard the name [name]Cherish[/name] on TV, so that’s what I suggested. They used it as her middle name. It’s not terrible, but even to this day I’m pretty surprised they ended up using it.
Geeknamezyo-- Was every [name]Rainbow[/name] [name]Katie[/name] actually [name]Rainbow[/name] [name]Brite[/name] in diguise?
staphanie-- I know! Me too! Later I wondered, “Why would they take advice from a two year old?,” but ultimately I feel proud to have been involved. It’s a great push towards family unity, in a way. And if strangers question the name choices, “it was the toddler’s choice” is an easy excuse. All that said, I think you could have done much worse than [name]Cherish[/name]! [name]Do[/name] you remember what you were watching?
My 9 year old brother and I argue about names a lot. He said he wants kids named [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Jacob[/name] because they are the number one names. I try to explain to him that popular isn’t always better and why would he want his kids to have the same name as everyone else.
He always says “They’ll make friends easier because they will fit in.”
I don’t agree with him still… but I think it’s so interesting that he thinks that. His name is [name]Caleb[/name], so it’s not like he’s had a hard time fitting in. I wonder if he’ll change his mind as he gets older.
I had a classmate in grad school named [name]Kitty[/name]. When she was five and her family immigrated from Hong Kong to [name]Canada[/name], her parents asked her what English name she wanted, so she named herself after Hello [name]Kitty[/name]. I guess she could have done worse, or ended up named Hello!
When I was little, my absolute favourite names were [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Ada[/name], from [name]Alice[/name] in Wonderland. I had two baby dolls names those and wanted to name my little sister one of them if I had one (I got a brother instead). They weren’t bad at all, actually I still like both of them! I think I might have wanted to name my brother [name]Ziggy[/name] (sheesh). I was two.
I’m a live-in nanny for 5 little girls, and the things they name their dolls always fascinate me. The most popular dolls in the house right now are twins named Googly and Glassy.
My brother is 15, so not exactly a babe, wants to name sons [name]Justinian[/name] and [name]Augustus[/name].
Edit: My SO wanted to name his brother Grover (he was 5). His brother wound up a Leonardo nn Leo.
My cousin, also at five wanted to name her brother Bubba Cletus.
when my 2nd sister was born, my parents asked me(then 6) and my sister (then 3) what to name her. [name]Ahnna[/name] said Poopface. I said Rosebud Poopface, because she needed a good first name to match poopface. My parents never told us what they named her ([name]Leeah[/name] [name]Katheryn[/name] is her name) until we met her at the hospital, and apparently met some backlash that they did not select our name choice. I call her Rosebud Poopface when we’re mad at her, now! (She’s 11, and definitely does not appreciate it.)
As for my 3rd sister, my Mom decided that we could pick from a group of names. The choices were [name]Kierra[/name], [name]Neena[/name], or [name]Tessa[/name]. We picked [name]Kierra[/name].
I think that way produced a much more solid name than the former.
A friend of mine comes from a family of 4 kids and I don’t think he had anything to do with either of his sisters’ names, but he picked out [name]Timothy[/name] for his little brother. I think he was 7 at the time and did an impressively good job.
My daughter, 4, knows we are trying… her names suggestions so far are [name]Flower[/name] [name]Willow[/name], [name]Pearl[/name] Pumpkin, and LMNOP.
Maybe we’ll have a [name]Willow[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] [name]Penelope[/name]?
I remember that as a very young child (3 - 6 maybe?) I was obsessed with the name [name]Emily[/name]. I had one doll in particular from my grandmother that I named [name]Emily[/name] and I believe I named every stuffed animal that came into my possession “[name]Emily[/name]”.
That is so weird! I have a friend named [name]Ketty[/name] who was born in Hong Kong and her name is Xiao Yi. When she was two, her family moved to [name]America[/name], and her mom saw Hello [name]Kitty[/name] on TV and decided to have her English name be [name]Kitty[/name]. But her dad hated it so they changed it to [name]Ketty[/name]. LOL.
