Full name for Cordie?

I came across the name/nickname [name]Cordie[/name] the other day and thought “neat, like Corduroy,” so I do like the warm sound of it. However, I feel it needs a longer full name? I was thinking maybe Coriander the d form the ander part. Is that too much stretching? Is Corduroy the only name that can be a longer form of [name]Cordie[/name]? Opinions on [name]Cordie[/name]?

p.s. I just am fascinated by names and the stories behind them, no little ones for me.

[name]Cordelia[/name] or [name]Courtney[/name]?

I love [name]Cordy[/name] as a nn for [name]Cordelia[/name]

[name]Cordelia[/name]! [name]Love[/name] it!

I think almost any name that starts with “[name]Cor[/name]” could work. [name]Corrine[/name] is another one I can think of.

[name]Cordelia[/name] is the first thing that came to mind. I also love the sound of Coriander. But it seems like a boy’s name to me.

I also want something that isn’t heard of a lot so that rules out [name]Courtney[/name]. I do like [name]Cordelia[/name] though. [name]Do[/name] you think the name Corduroy is too oddball?

[name]Corisande[/name]? It’s pronounced core-iss-AHND

[name]Love[/name] the suggestion of [name]Cordelia[/name]! I think that’s just charming. Corduroy is a bit too out-there for me, sorry. I don’t really like it on a girl, either–if I saw the name Corduroy, I would assume it was a little boy.

The [name]Cordy[/name] I know is [name]Cordula[/name]. I think [name]Cordelia[/name] is much prettier

[name]Cordelia[/name] was my first thought. Or maybe a [name]Cor[/name]- name with a D middle name? For example, [name]Coralie[/name] [name]Delilah[/name] could easily become [name]Cordie[/name]. [name]Cora[/name] or [name]Corinne[/name] would work too.

Corduroy is like naming you child [name]Denim[/name] or [name]Argyle[/name] to me. It’s a type of clothing, not a child.

[name]Cordelia[/name] was my first thought.

I agree with agirlinred about Corduroy, it’s definitely not a name.

I understand where you coming from with the “it’s not a person, it’s fabric,” though what if you change the spelling to Cordurie? [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Corisande[/name], and [name]Corinne[/name] I’d rather not use because either I know someone named that or I have heard the name one to many times, even on name sites. However [name]Cordula[/name] is interesting. I haven’t heard that before and the meaning seems to be something like heart. Sweet and cute, yet not to much so. Thanks for the help!

Definitely [name]Cordelia[/name]! Or maybe [name]Cornelia[/name]…

Cordurie is pretty bad, to be honest. I think that it’s worse than Corduroy.

I think that most people will assume that [name]Cordie[/name] is short for [name]Cordelia[/name], as evidenced by the fact that most of these comments at least mention [name]Cordelia[/name] or say that their first thought was [name]Cordelia[/name]. That isn’t to say that [name]Cordelia[/name] is the only option, just that if you go with another option [name]Cordie[/name] will constantly have to explain that, no, it isn’t short for [name]Cordelia[/name].

I think that Corinthia is the only option that I can think of that hasn’t been mentioned yet. I love [name]Coralie[/name], so I like the [name]Coralie[/name] with a D middle name option. My favorite pick would definitely be [name]Cordelia[/name], though, for the reasons that I’ve already mentioned.

Corduroy is too quirky for me… and I do like quirky but I don’t know… just seems like a stretch. I think [name]Cordy[/name] in itself is so spunky and unique that to give her an option of a full-name seems like a good choice. In case she gets to college and decides she doesn’t want to be [name]Cordy[/name], but rather the full name.

I do like [name]Cordelia[/name]. Yes, people may have heard of it (buffy the vampire slayer, anyone?!) but it’s not common by ANY means! It has a beautiful meaning as well. Also [name]Coralee[/name] is cute. It doesn’t have “cord” in there, but seems that it could transition to that nn.

Here’s some others I found when browsing, none of which I’ve seen before: [name]Cordella[/name], Cordasia, Cordova, [name]Cordia[/name], Corden, [name]Cordelie[/name]/Cordely.

I think nono hit the nail on the head. Most people will think [name]Cordie[/name] is short for [name]Cordelia[/name], so going with [name]Cordelia[/name] will make it the easiest on her. And who’s to say she’d ever go by her full name? I know adult Shellys who’ve never been Michelles. Katherines who’ve always been Kates.

And consider that if [name]Cordie[/name] is dropped by the wayside and she wants to go by something longer, it will be because she’s a little older and wants to sound more professional. In that case, you don’t want her fall back to Coduroy, or something made up that is hard to wear as an adult.
