I’m trying to sell my hubby on a full name for the nickname [name_u]Kit[/name_u] (which we both love). The obvious choice is [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], but my husband thinks it is way too common (he has always hated how common his name, [name_m]Josh[/name_m], is).
We are mid-westerners with [name_m]German[/name_m], Scottish, and Nordic roots (way too northern European for those beautiful Latin variations). I would REALLY like to keep the “C” instead of a “K”.
Here are some of the names we are considering:
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] (I love how classic it is, and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is not common here)
[name_m]Christof[/name_m] (Not sure that I like this as well with a C instead of a K)
[name_m]Christian[/name_m]
[name_m]Christiansen[/name_m]
We are also looking for a middle name with an M, maybe [name_m]Mikael[/name_m], [name_m]Malakai[/name_m], or Meriadoc?
I’d go with [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. And I know you want an M middle, but how bout [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m]? Looking at the ones you had that’s what I first thought of.
I did ask about if people thought [name_m]Christian[/name_m] was too closely connect with 50 Shades of [name_u]Gray[/name_u] earlier. I got some good responses, but Hubby is still not convinced that it is currently an appropriate name for a baby because of the movie coming out. I’m not on forums often, I apologize if I should have elaborated on that post instead of starting a new one. My pregnant brain has moved on to a (in my mind) different, unrelated question.
[name_m]Even[/name_m] if you do name him [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], I don’t think the popularity will be an issue if you’re going to be calling him [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. There were only 16 boys named [name_u]Kit[/name_u] in 2012, and I doubt that there are many more using [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a nickname for a longer name.
Unless you’re looking for only variations of [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], you could pretty much use any name starting with a C, right? Unless you’re looking only for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] variations, how about: [name_m]Connor[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_m]Crawford[/name_m], [name_u]Carlisle[/name_u], [name_m]Catullus[/name_m], [name_m]Cato[/name_m], [name_m]Clement[/name_m], [name_m]Cassius[/name_m], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m], [name_m]Clayton[/name_m], or [name_u]Carey[/name_u]? And for middles, I’ve always really liked [name_m]Mordechai[/name_m]. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!!
Chrisander – this is my favorite [name_u]Chris[/name_u] variant.
Citino – quick to act (kit-ee-no)
It’s hard to stick to C names that aren’t just [name_u]Chris[/name_u] variants. I think you could probably just use [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a nickname for an C name, really.
My first thought was [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m] b/c you have many nn options like [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_m]Keith[/name_m], [name_m]Kent[/name_m], [name_m]Ken[/name_m], [name_m]Kenny[/name_m], or even K/[name_u]Kay[/name_u] …
Thank you everyone. We are definitely agreed on [name_u]Kit[/name_u], either from [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] or [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. I guess it really depends on what middle name we settle on (right now I think the leading contenders are [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] or [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]) but it feels good to be on a single baby-naming path and not just wandering aimlessly around name-land. It is also nice to have something to call the future soccer star keeping me up at night.
