[name_u]Love[/name_u] the nickname [name_f]Libby[/name_f], but not as a full name. Trying to find a good name to use for Diplomas and documents or shouting when she is in trouble. Middle name is [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] after her Grandma. Older sister is [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] with nn [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. I want to keep with an L name cuz we have an L last name and I really like alliteration.
Top names are Liveah (pronounced [name_f]Liv[/name_f] Vay [name_m]Ah[/name_m]), Liviana, Liviah or [name_f]Lisabeth[/name_f]. I’m afraid Liviah and [name_f]Lisabeth[/name_f] just sound like headless versions of Oliviah and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] respectively, plus I am hesitatant to for those to cuz they are very common (both in top 20 girls names of 2017). I am afraid that Liveah and Liviana sound too made up (not even in top 1000 names). Plus, Liviana has a negative meaning “envious.” Liveah means “Lionness of the [name_m]Lord[/name_m]”, [name_f]Lisabeth[/name_f] means “God is my Oath” and [name_f]Livia[/name_f] means “Life”
Or should I just scrap the L name idea? The only none L name I am considering is [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] (which is also a top 20 name). Either way she will get the nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f].
Berries, which do you like best?
Liveah [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]
Liviana [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]
Liviah [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Lisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] (also means God is my Oath)
I think [name_f]Lisabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] work the best like mentioned above. I have got some other ideas sorry if their are repeats:
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Libertad[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f]
Liblith
Liviah is my favorite of your choices. Yes, it does sound like it’s short for Olivia, but (as you know) it is a “real” name, too.
I also like Liveah but would have assumed the same pronunciation as Livia/Liviah. As it is it reminds me of Linnea, which I think it great, but would only lead to Libby if you wanted to get creative (Linnea Beatrice Carolyn, Libby, for example).
As far as other suggestions, I thought of Sybil, though I prefer Liviah to it, myself.
Edited to add: I just figured out what made Liveah sound familiar. Not just Linnea, but also Neveah/Nevaeh—this being a more popular name might actually help guide people to the right pronunciation.
I really like …[name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
Would you consider…[name_f]Lila[/name_f] and Liddy.
Liddy is just as cute as [name_f]Libby[/name_f] and not used as often. Also, [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] are well matched in style and popularity.
[name_f]Libby[/name_f] is traditionally a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and is the intuitive nickname for [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] as well.
I think [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] nn Lyddie is a great suggestion as well!
(BTW, I’m not sure where are the little Elizabeths are…I know it’s a Top 20 name, but we haven’t met a single one here in NYC. Have met a ton of Charlies and a surprising number of Eleanors/Noras, but no little Elizabeths, and a [name_f]Libby[/name_f] here in the US is even more uncommon).
I don’t like Liveah or Liviah. I can’t find anything legit on the name Liveah and its pronunciation and spelling brings to mind [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f]/[name_f]Neveah[/name_f]–not in a good way. I don’t like the random “H” in [name_f]Livia[/name_f].
I really like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] ([name_f]Lydie[/name_f]) with [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] ([name_f]Lila[/name_f]), but if you really want to use [name_f]Libby[/name_f] I would go with the name [name_f]Lizabeth[/name_f], not [name_f]Lisabeth[/name_f]. With [name_f]Lisabeth[/name_f] you tend to want to pronounce the name [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] [name_f]Beth[/name_f].
The first is closer to the classic. I don’t think you have to worry about popularity. It’s a classic name that will never go out of style; it has many nicknames and you are using a variation of the spelling. It’s not like it is super popular or trendy. Check in your state to see just how many babies have the name each year.
My first choice is [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] - [name_f]Lydie[/name_f], Liddy, [name_f]Liddie[/name_f]. Lidi, Lydi
If you want each name to have four letters, you could do [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and Lidi or Lydi
Another idea …I know an [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] nicknamed Lisi. You could do [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] and [name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Lisabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and Lisi (pronounced [name_u]LEE[/name_u] see)
My favorite from your list is [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]. I don’t think you should necessarily scrap the L name idea, but don’t limit yourself if there’s other names you like. Some other names: [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] & [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
Liveah is not the tradition spelling of ([name_f]Liv[/name_f] Vay [name_m]Ah[/name_m]). The traditional spelling is Leviah. It is a Hebrew name. I chose to change the spelling because I did not think that I would get the correct pronunciation with Leviah. I know that [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] and Niveah are common enough that it could lead people to the correct pronunciation.
I appreciate the suggestion of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]/Lyddie, but I am huge Pride and Prejudice fan and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] makes me think of the character [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_m]Bennet[/name_m]. Plus, my best friend’s roommate in college was [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and I did not care for that [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] either, so even though they have a similar sound, there are too many negative associations with [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] for me to use it. I definitely have my heart set on the nickname [name_f]Libby[/name_f]. Thanks for all of the suggestions, Berries!
Btw, what are your thoughts on the names [name_f]Livinia[/name_f] (variation on [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]) or [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]?
