I love the name [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] so much! I love the mythology associated with it and it’s connection to our celtic heritage and the sound.
I’m not sure i can use it as full name though particularly as sisters have much more classic names upfront (Matilda [name_m]Valentine[/name_m], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] Bridie) One option of course is to simply use [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] in the middle spot however I’m also wondering if it could work as a nickname…
I love the name [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] (it’s on my long list) and Katherine/Kathleen is also a family/honour name that is on my middle name list and i was wondering if
[name_f]Celestia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] or [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] could work for [name_f]Selkie[/name_f]
I also love
[name_f]Celestia[/name_f] [name_m]Sky[/name_m]
I’m wondering:
Could [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] could work for Selkie…either alone or with a k middle…or is it just too much of a stretch?
Selena/Selene is another option which i like and seems perhaps more intuitive but i much prefer [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] … I do love [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] too but not sure its any less of a stretch than [name_f]Celestia[/name_f]! would love to hear other names you can think of that might work.
also what are thoughts on [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] as a full name with her sisters -
Finally I’d love to hear your best [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] combos (in the middle and upfront) and more [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] combos with or without the K!
Nicknames come from all sorts of places, so I don’t see why [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] couldn’t be a nickname for [name_f]Celestia[/name_f]. Both have a wonderful magical feel to them, and they share the same sounding first syllable (even if they’re spelt differently).
From your list, I think [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] works best. I find [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] too short next to [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] and [name_m]Sky[/name_m] sounds repetitive given the meaning of [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] (to me, it sounds like naming the baby [name_m]Sky[/name_m] Sky).
I don’t like my nicknames to be too stretchy, so [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] “Selkie” doesn’t work for me. But if it works for you, that’s great - use it! Like the previous poster said, nicknames can come from anywhere.
I do think using a K- middle name makes it less stretchy. [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] is nice, and all the sounds of [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] are there. [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] is nice but it doesn’t give [name_f]Selkie[/name_f]. I agree that [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] [name_m]Sky[/name_m] could potentially be too much/too repetitive.
When I read the post title my immediate thought was [name_f]Selene[/name_f]. I can definitely envision a [name_f]Selene[/name_f] [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] “Selkie”. I had [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] on my list of a while, and I think she’s pretty sweet
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] comes to mind. They’re classic, like your other daughters’ names, and a [name_m]German[/name_m] nickname for both of these names is [name_f]Silke[/name_f], which is very similar to [name_f]Selkie[/name_f].
[name_f]Celestia[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] or [name_f]Celestia[/name_f] [name_m]Sky[/name_m] nn [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] is certainly unexpected, but as an ‘at home’ nickname - or if it suits her well - I think it could be cool and you could make it work.
I think [name_f]Selkie[/name_f] could work - [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] are cohesive, but they’re also each different in style
