Despite the character from The Help, I’ve somehow managed to have a name-crush on the name Hilly. I acknowledge, however, that Hilly is a bit too nicknamey to use as a full name, so I was wondering if anyone could come up with some full names for it. I’ve thought about it, but all I can think of is [name]Hillary[/name]/[name]Hilary[/name]. Any suggestions?
What about [name]Helena[/name] nn Hilly?
[name]Hilda[/name] or [name]Hilde[/name], [name]Hilaire[/name], Hila
[name]Harriet[/name]?
Hila – halo/moon’s halo
Hilan – filled with happiness
Hilani – carried in the arms
[name]Hilda[/name]
Hildelita – warrior
Hildemare – splendid
[name]Hildred[/name] – comrade
Hilina – resembling a celestial
Hilka
[name]Hillary[/name]
Hillela – praise
Hillevi – safe in battle
[name]Hilliard[/name] – from the hill
That’s all the [name]Hil[/name]- names i know. I suppose it could really work for any name that starts with a H and at least has an I in there somewhere.
I may be alone in this, but I really like the name [name]Hildegarde[/name].
[name]How[/name] about a name that rhymes? Like [name]Emily[/name] or [name]Valerie[/name]? I know a lot of girl’s with nns that have nothing to do with their actual names. At least if it’s something that has the same ending sound, it’ll make some sense. lol
[name]How[/name] about…
[name]Mathilde[/name]
[name]Philippa[/name]
[name]Philomena[/name]
Or you could use a name that means [name]Hill[/name] like…
[name]Harlow[/name]
Ruba
[name]Tara[/name]
[name]Hildegard[/name]
[name]Hilde[/name]/[name]Hilda[/name]
I think that [name]Hilary[/name] and [name]Hilda[/name]/[name]Hilde[/name] are your best bets.
[name]Heloise[/name] maybe? I do quite like [name]Hilda[/name] ([name]Hildie[/name] is super cute too). [name]Mathilde[/name]? Pls not [name]Hilton[/name] whatever you do. [name]Hillel[/name] would be an intriguing choice.
[name]Clothilde[/name], [name]Hillary[/name], [name]Mathilda[/name], [name]Phillipa[/name], [name]Philomena[/name], [name]Jillian[/name], [name]Jill[/name]
[name]Clothilde[/name] is a great suggestion! There’s also the Spanish name [name]Hilaria[/name], if you have a particular Spanish connection or predilection.
The SUGGESTIONS made here would be good for today’s times. HOWEVER, the movie “The help” is set in the early to mid 60’s in the south. Meaning the character “Hilly” would’ve been born in the 40s. A common name in the South during the 40’s, I’m sorry to say was Hildegard!!! Check out in names from the 40s. You’re better off with the modern SUGGESTIONS or just namke her HILLY as her legal name. I had a son I wanted to be called Josh - he prefers Joshua right now. So if u want her to be called Hilly - name her Hilly
I love the name too. But u must remember the movie is set during the early to mid 1960’s, meaning that the character “Hilly” was most likely a nickname for the name [name_f]Hildegard[/name_f], a popular name in the 1940s, sorry to say. Some advice, if u really want her to be called “Hilly” then just make it her LEGAL name. [name_m]Case[/name_m] in Point I wanted my son to be called [name_m]Josh[/name_m] but made his legal name to be [name_m]Joshua[/name_m]. Once they start school they use the legal name and somewhere along the line HE began to prefer [name_m]Joshua[/name_m]. So if u REALLY want her called Hilly - name her Hilly.
