Future-ifying Joel

So, I’m writing this story that’s set in the year 3033, in a town that’s located inside of a dome. The first people to be put in there have been there for 25 years now and they obviously now have kids as they’ve accepted that they’re never getting out. I had all of their names figured out and squared away, but I realized that next to all of them aren’t futuristic enough to be names that would be used in the 3000’s (or 2990’s).

[name_f]My[/name_f] objective right now is one my main characters, [name_m]Joel[/name_m] [name_m]Amadeo[/name_m]. His middle is up in the air right now, but I’ll figure it out once I have his first name. I really feel like he’s a [name_m]Joel[/name_m], so I’m trying to find a way to “future-ify” it. I’ve just gone through some lists of boy names and added different endings onto [name_m]Joel[/name_m] and now I have this list:

Joeldar / Joledar
Joelstir
Joelistair
Joelnix
Joelvier
Joelark / Joelarke
Joeliver
Joelan / [name_f]Joelin[/name_f]
Joelfin
Joelbeck
Joelnan
Joelonardo / Joelanardo
Joeliago / Joeltiago
Joelteo
Joelenzo
Joeliano
Joelandro
Joelonso / Joelonzo
Joelsian / Joelssian
Joelander
Joelentino
Joelvador
Joelvander
Joelvon

I’d like to know what your favorites are and how you would pronounce them (or how you’d pronounce all of them if you wanna give me that). I’m worried a lot of them wouldn’t have “[name_m]Joel[/name_m]” in the actual pronunciation, which I’d like them to but it isn’t a dealbreaker.

(This post got long… sorry! :grimacing:)

None of your current options struck me, but I immediately thought of:

Joelian; like joel and julian mashed together. Maybe a meshing of his parents names?

Ooh! That’s a good option! Thank you!!

My favorite is Joelsian “[name_m]Joel[/name_m]-see-en”! Joelec “[name_m]Joel[/name_m]-ec” is another idea or maybe Joelvien “[name_m]Joel[/name_m]-vee-en”.

I’m pronouncing it with the standard [name_f]English[/name_f] pronunciation. Thank you, this is something to think about!

Ooh yay, I quite like Joelsian myself. Joelec & Joelvien are interesting! I’ll add them to my list. Thanks, S! :slightly_smiling_face:

(Is it okay to call you S? That just felt natural but I’m worried that maybe you aren’t comfortable with that??)

I’m glad you like them! And yes you can call me S

Honestly, the idea of just spelling it as Jol was the first idea that came to mind for me. Would you consider just an alternate spelling? Unfortunately, none of the names on your list really flowed naturally for me save perhaps Joelan, but even that name causes me to say JOE-lin instead of JOEL-in.

Good luck with your story and names! I like your concept! (I couldn’t image writing a futuristic story with my lack of confidence!)

@Sarah1694
I like it, but I’m not sure if I like it more than my other options. I’ll make a new post for my current list of options so more people will be able to answer!

(I’ll post a link to it here as soon as I get it made, so you can find it if you’d like!)

Sorry for not replying earlier! I totally forgot!!

Jol is actually a cool idea! I’m not sure I’d use it, but it’s gonna go on the list.

Part 2 post: Future-ifying Joel pt. 2

Hey, I love the name Joele. You an also spell it Joelie Joeli Joelei Joeleigh Joelee Joeleeh Joelea Joeleygh?..

to borrow from Superman, what about Jo-El or Joel-Something, or yes Jol-Something.

Some ideas for that could come from your list. Jol-Nix, Jol-Ark, Jol-Ander, Joel-Von, stuff like that.
