This is all just thinking for the future but I needed some distraction as my insurance changed the tier my BC was in and it now costs me $40. For 28 pills that turn me into an emotional blubbering idiot or a ranging hormonal lunatic. breathing in and out slowly
My names are all over the place style-wise. Popularity of a name doesn’t deter me from using it. I had a strict “cannot end in a” rule because of my future last name, but I threw that out the window as I was finding it REALLY hard to find names I liked that didn’t end in a. Also, (and this is a deal-breaker) the name HAS to be pronounceable in Spanish. So for example, I adore the name [name]Bryony[/name] but in Spanish it’s just bad. Very bad. If Spanish isn’t your thing, just remember it’s pretty phonetic and the vowels go ah, eh, ee, oh, oo (like in food)… every time.
From the list below, which do you like? Are there any you’d eliminate because you don’t think they fit with the others? Any that you’d pair together? Any suggestions? Berries are name geniuses!
[name]Zoe[/name]
Noemí
[name]Alina[/name]
[name]Elinor[/name]
[name]Cassandra[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] (the meaning of this one kills me, but I can’t get rid of it)
[name]Amaia[/name]/ [name]Amaya[/name] (another one where the meaning kills me, but it’s so beautiful)
[name]Zara[/name]
[name]Kassiani[/name] (a bit of GP)
[name]Madeline[/name] (not my favorite spelling, but the only one that gets it close for Spanish, and my aunt’s name is [name]Mady[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Lior[/name]/ [name]Eliora[/name]/ [name]Liora[/name]
[name]Carina[/name]
[name]Camila[/name]
[name]Beatriz[/name]
[name]Eleni[/name]
[name]Zahira[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Aisha[/name] (someone mentioned in another thread not to use this name if you aren’t Muslim… I don’t want to offend people so if this is true, I can eliminate it… I just love the meaning.)
[name]Vashti[/name]
First of all lots of hugs from one hormonal lunatic to another xox
I love that [name]Vashti[/name]'s on your list. Such a cool name and namesake! Others I love beyond the moon are [name]Miranda[/name], [name]Lior[/name] (yay!), [name]Cassandra[/name], Noemí, [name]Beatriz[/name] and [name]Ophelia[/name] ([name]Ofelia[/name]?). I also really love [name]Cecilia[/name]. The meaning isn’t off putting for me, what’s really wrong with being blind? And the name’s got such a long history from the ancient Romans, that adds to it’s awesomeness in my opinion. And actually, as a Latinesse, the name means the way of the blind, which makes me think of somewhere safe, guided, soft… [name]Zara[/name] is gorgeous and pleated in gold and rubies, [name]Aisha[/name] is stunning. I don’t know anyone who isn’t Muslim who has this name though.
I do like your whole list, [name]Dina[/name], it’s wonderful and you will surely have wonderfully named cutie pie babies! My brain’s simply not working to well these days.
(When’s your wedding, by the way? I have a feeling yours is around the same time as mine… (20th of [name]July[/name]!))
My favorites are [name]Anastasia[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name], and Noemí! [name]Amaia[/name]/[name]Amaya[/name]'s cute too. I love [name]Amaya[/name]'s meaning of “night rain”.
[name]Beatriz[/name] Noemí is beautiful! I also like the suggestion of [name]Lux[/name]! What about [name]Serafina[/name]?
I love the name [name]Amaya[/name], how about [name]Amaya[/name] [name]Elinor[/name]?
This summer, I met some spanish girls, and thought their names (all of them) were gorgeous!
[name]Alexandra[/name] ([name]Ah[/name]-lay-han-dra) (I’m not actually sure if this is how she spelt her name) And she went by Ale (ah-lay) which was adorable
[name]Lucilla[/name] (went by [name]Lou[/name]), gorgoeous
[name]Violetta[/name]
[name]Sofia[/name]
[name]Isobel[/name]
[name]Fernanda[/name] (went by [name]Nanda[/name] or Fer (pronounced fair) )
Not sure if these are your style, but I thought they were gorgeous, especially [name]Lou[/name]. If I ever have an excuse to name a future daughter [name]Lou[/name], I will!
Responses yay! I was off buying furniture (not a good idea when hormonal…lol)
@goodkarmavt Never thought about putting Noemí in the middle spot. [name]Beatriz[/name] Noemí is beautiful. [name]Vashti[/name] [name]Noor[/name] is equally beautiful. Already know quite a few [name]Sofia[/name]'s so that one is out, but [name]Sela[/name] is cute… let’s see if the fiancé agrees.
@ottilie- My wedding is [name]July[/name] 13th!!! [name]How[/name] crazy is that! 77 days! WHOOO! I’m sure that all this wedding stuff is not helping the crazy hormones. Thank you for the reassurance on [name]Cecilia[/name]. It is really growing on me lately. [name]Ophelia[/name] / [name]Ofelia[/name] is another one that has really grown on me Was thinking about putting them with [name]Zoe[/name]…
@jessica123 - [name]Serafina[/name] is also on my short list… If I did [name]Lux[/name], it would have to be [name]Luz[/name].
@waverly1234 [name]Amaya[/name] [name]Elinor[/name] is very pretty. I love [name]Alexandra[/name] ([name]Alejandra[/name]) but one of my very good friends is named this, so it’s out.
I really like Noemí, [name]Beatriz[/name], [name]Zara[/name] and [name]Ofelia[/name] from your list. Here are some more that you might like:
[name]Amada[/name]
[name]Carmela[/name]
[name]Delfina[/name]
[name]Federica[/name]
[name]Leonor[/name], [name]Leonora[/name]
[name]Martina[/name]
[name]Love[/name]:
[name]Cassandra[/name]- spunky, sassy and fun
[name]Anastasia[/name]- exotic and foreign-but-familiar, regal but very associated with the Grand Duchess
[name]Cecilia[/name]- lacy and lissome, frilly and feminissima
[name]Zara[/name]- zippy and packs quite a punch with just four letters
[name]Miranda[/name]- sounds modern but is in reality centuries old, feminine and pretty
[name]Ophelia[/name]- dramatic and stunning, but very associated with the characater (and I’m not a huge fan of her though I love her name!)
Like:
[name]Elinor[/name]- love [name]Eleanor[/name], but not a fan of this spelling
[name]Kassiani[/name]- unique and interesting, nice sound
[name]Carina[/name]- nice but doesn’t pop
[name]Camila[/name]- I much prefer [name]Camilla[/name] and [name]Camelia[/name]
[name]Beatriz[/name]- I much prefer [name]Beatrice[/name]; [name]Beatrix[/name] is okay too
[name]Eleni[/name]- nice but not very feminine
[name]Zahira[/name]- exotic, dramatic and spunky
NMS, sorry:
[name]Zoe[/name]- I tend not to like the long O sound in names
[name]Noemi[/name]- same as [name]Zoe[/name]
[name]Amaia[/name]/[name]Amaya[/name]- find a bit boring
[name]Madeline[/name]- nice but very common
[name]Lior[/name]/[name]Eliora[/name]/[name]Liora[/name]- too close to the word liar for me
[name]Aisha[/name]- tend not to like names with “sh” in them
[name]Vashti[/name]- sounds very masculine
Amaya means ‘night rain’ in Japanese which I think is beautiful, if you don’t like the Spanish meaning of Amaia.
I like…
Ophelia Beatriz
Elinor Madeline
Vashti Madeline
Noemi Cecilia
Cassandra Eleni
Zoe Amaya
What about - Eloisa, Noa, Leonor, Paloma, Lucila, Ramona, Zea, Delphi, Paz, Cosette, Sofia, Asha?
My Favorites:
[name]Anastasia[/name]- every time I see this name I think of the music box and Once Upon a [name]December[/name].
[name]Beatriz[/name]- beautiful name plus nn [name]Bea[/name] ([name]BAY[/name]-uh) is equally beautiful.
[name]Camila[/name]- sounds beautiful in Spanish and great nn options.
[name]Cassandra[/name]- gorgeous and enchanted with Greek Mythology.
[name]Elinor[/name]- as in Dashwood
[name]Miranda[/name]- Shakespearean goodness! Plus my inner geek loves this because of [name]Serenity[/name]!
Noemí- every syllable is beautiful and you just can’t help repeating the name over and over again.
[name]Ophelia[/name]- A hauntingly beautiful name.
[name]Vashti[/name]- a terrific heroine with a stunning name.
[name]Zoe[/name]- [name]Saint[/name] [name]Zoe[/name] of [name]Rome[/name] is a very admirable namesake though she met a tragic end.
@rosamonte Thank you. I ran them by the fiancé and he shot me down.
@bonfireazalea- thanks for the feedback… That is exactly how I feel about [name]Cecilia[/name]… I think this one is becoming a top contender. From what I understand, she’s also the patron saint of music and my dad is a musician which would be a sweet way to link a daughter to her only grandfather.
@oliviasarah- I haven’t been able to find any other source that has that meaning for [name]Amaya[/name] in Japanese. I much prefer that meaning, obviously. I love all your suggestions especially [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Amaya[/name], [name]Elinor[/name]/[name]Vashti[/name] [name]Madeline[/name] and [name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Eleni[/name]
@elizabeth_rose you just made me fall in love with all of them all over again. I do love that namesake for [name]Zoe[/name]. When I have to name babies for real I’m in trouble!
I love [name]Alina[/name], [name]Elinor[/name], [name]Cassandra[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name], [name]Zara[/name], [name]Kassiani[/name], [name]Madeline[/name], [name]Miranda[/name], [name]Eliora[/name], [name]Carina[/name], [name]Eleni[/name].
[name]Lior[/name] is ehh to me, I know a man named [name]Loir[/name] so I think of him. It also looks like a play on the brandname [name]Dior[/name].
[name]Amaya[/name] is also apparently, a Japanese name meaning “night rain” so that negates the other negative meaning if spelled that way.
As for the other negative meanings, I’m big on meanings and would scrap them.
Would you like having a name meaning end, or blind? Also, I firmly believe that what you name your child, is what you’re calling them. Meaning and all.
As for [name]Aisha[/name], it’s definitely a very political and loaded name. [name]Both[/name] with in the religion of Islam and outside of it.
It can also be viewed as insulting to use on a non-muslim by some Muslims.
A little tidbit: Only [name]Sunni[/name] Muslims believe that [name]Aisha[/name] was the favourite wife of Prophet [name]Muhammed[/name]. Shias have no fondness towards her at all.
Since she’s such a prominent figure in Islam, I highly suggest avoiding it, or at least doing intense research before using it.
From your list I love;
[name]Noemi[/name]
[name]Elinor[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Alina[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Amaya[/name]
[name]Zara[/name]
[name]Carina[/name]
[name]Beatriz[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Zahara[/name]
I love [name]Beatriz[/name], [name]Luz[/name], [name]Elinor[/name], [name]Zoe[/name], [name]Camila[/name], [name]Miranda[/name], [name]Eliora[/name] y [name]Noemi[/name].
something to keep in mind: [name]Zara[/name] and [name]Sara[/name] will sound exactly the same in Spanish.
Also, I’ve known plenty of people with the name [name]Aisha[/name] that I’m pretty sure weren’t Muslim. They used various different spellings as well, like [name]Iesha[/name].
@east93- that’s what I was figuring with [name]Aisha[/name]… I don’t love it as much as I love the others, so I can let it go. I’m with you on the meanings… this has always been my struggle with [name]Cecilia[/name], especially because it works so well and it sounds so pretty.
@rojaverde- La película es la razón por la cual me encanta el nombre!
@amelieamour- I love your suggestions, but I can’t use [name]Sofia[/name], [name]Marisol[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Ariana[/name], [name]Juliana[/name], [name]Emilia[/name], [name]Francesca[/name], or [name]Elena[/name] because they are either family friends’ children, family members have them, a student has ruined it for me, or someone at church has it, and I don’t want people to think I named my child after them. I do know [name]Zara[/name] and [name]Sara[/name] sound the same, I just like the Z.
[name]Zoe[/name]- I’ve never been a huge fan of the name [name]Zoe[/name].
Noemí- Beautiful name, looks good written and spoken
[name]Alina[/name]- Another pretty name
[name]Elinor[/name]- My best friend is [name]Elinor[/name] Maguerite, the spelling where I live is slightly more common that the [name]Eleanor[/name] version.
[name]Cassandra[/name]- I like the nn [name]Cassie[/name], but [name]Cassandra[/name] is a bit too heavy for me.
[name]Anastasia[/name]- I think it’s beautiful, but I doubt I would use it.
[name]Cecilia[/name]- I think it sounds pretty, how about [name]Cecily[/name] or just [name]Celia[/name]?
[name]Amaia[/name]/ [name]Amaya[/name]- Prefer the [name]Amaya[/name] spellia, doesn’t look quite right spelt with an i.
[name]Zara[/name]- Classic, regal and pretty. I think this name is lovely. I once knew a girl named [name]Azariah[/name], and she was very beautiful her nickname was [name]Zara[/name].
[name]Kassiani[/name]- Not my cup of tea really sorry.
[name]Madeline[/name]- I think it’s a very pretty name, it’s one of my favourites
[name]Miranda[/name]- Never really appealed to me, but I think it’s gained popularity because of [name]Miranda[/name] [name]Kerr[/name]
[name]Lior[/name]/ [name]Eliora[/name]/ [name]Liora[/name]- [name]Eliora[/name] is my favourite from the 3, [name]Liora[/name] could be a nickname. Very pretty.
[name]Carina[/name]- My favourite name from the whole list, I love it! It’s also on my list.
[name]Camila[/name]- Meh, sometimes I like it, sometimes I don’t.
[name]Beatriz[/name]- Never been a fan of [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name] or [name]Beatriz[/name] sorry.
[name]Eleni[/name]- [name]Love[/name] it, sounds quite similar to the name [name]Eleri[/name].
[name]Zahira[/name]- I want to like it, but there’s something stopping me…
[name]Ophelia[/name]- Really like it think it’s a cute name.
[name]Aisha[/name]- My non-Muslim best friend is named [name]Aiesha[/name]. She’s never had any trouble being named it, she’s never been questioned on it at all. Although when I introduce her to people I don’t think they quite expected a tall, blonde girl to be named [name]Aiesha[/name]. Also I know another girl named Iesha, and she wasn’t a Muslim.
[name]Vashti[/name]- [name]Don[/name]'t a huge fan of [name]Vashti[/name] sorry, it’s a little to harsh for my liking.
