I have just started a story and i have been stumped with a name for my main character. The story takes place in the far future in a different universe that is split into two empires, the Ultimate Empire, and the Magnesium Empire. The story takes place in the Ultimate Empire, and tells about the empire’s rulers and how they are cruel and greedy and do not care at all about its people. For years the people of the Ultimate Empire had been shoved around by their rulers, and a group of people decide enough is enough. They form a resistance called Defiance, and plan on starting a major revolution to take down the royals of the Ultimate Empire.
The leader of Defiance is the main character who i need a name for. He is rough, stoic, and so stealthy and combat trained that his enemies barely see him coming before he kills them. He is muscular and has alot of scars from his hardships in life.
Please help me pin point this hero’s name!
What sort of warrior is he? Is he more of a cowboy type, a Viking, a pirate, or perhaps an [name]Indiana[/name] [name]Jones[/name]-esque adventurer? Is he muscular as in wide-set shoulders, built like a warrior for the battlefield, or is he shaped more fine-tuned, like a fencer? Is there any specific ancestry you can associate him with? Did you want a more generic Americanized name or something more in tune to his roots (i.e. if he’s of Norse/Viking descent, he could be Brokk or Thoran.)
Another thing I thought of is if this is far in the future, and the setting sort of post-apocalyptic, something stronger and more Biblical would be apropos… like, OLD Biblical. Think Zacchariah “[name]Zac[/name]” or [name]Leviticus[/name] “[name]Levi[/name]”.

Thank you so much for your help! I really, really appriciate it! As a young author, I strugle with appropriate names for my characters. Right now I have him named as [name]Cayden[/name], but it doesn’t really click. He is warrior thick, with broad shoulders and a battle roughthened body. As for decendency, i love anything viking, being a decendent from them myself, and i would love to find something old. Really old. Maybe from old bibical, but if you can try to find something traditional viking that is easy to pronounce!
Very true! I have a Viking warrior hero in one of my stories with wide-set shoulders and a large frame whose name is a hybrid of two Nordic/Viking names that I found: Dikibyr + Dagibund = Dagibyr, or “[name]Dag[/name]”. As this is the future, feel free to find a name that half-suits, and re-spell or recreate it the way you like! In the same story, other male characters are Eilif, Brokk, Hafleikr (pronounced “haff-lek”), and Bjolf ([name]Bee[/name]-olf). Keep perusing the name lists you find randomly online. I’m sure you can find pronunciation help online, too. If YOU know how it’s pronounced, then that’s all that matters, as long as it’s not too obscure. Let me tell you, I had NO idea how “Hermoine” was pronounced until the first [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] movie came out!

It separates names by culture/language/religion, giving you a list of more popular first names as well as surnames, and even introductions as to how to put together, say, a Spanish name, or what happens when two Chinese people get married and have a baby… how do names work then? Perhaps even some pronunciation help. [name]Don[/name]'t have the book with me at this exact moment, so don’t quote me on that last bit!
[name]Cayden[/name] doesn’t really do anything for me, either. At least, it doesn’t convey the look of a warrior-type that you’re going for. Also, as you were describing him I kept thinking of the movie “Mad [name]Max[/name]” with [name]Mel[/name] [name]Gibson[/name]. If you haven’t seen the movie, it’s a post-apocalyptic war movie. Not really my thing, but [name]Gibson[/name]'s character was a rogue-type who was resourceful and even kind in some parts. He doesn’t talk much, but that’s the way of a rogue, I suppose. He does what is necessary and isn’t accustomed to many people.
I’m not really much help, but I’ll keep thinking about it!

Then there’s nicknames that could be part of the resistance like [name]Red[/name], X, [name]Fleet[/name], etc. something that goes with the character and secretive too.
Or you could use their last name for the majority if they have one.
