[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! We are completely stumped naming baby boy #2 and I always love reading your smart ideas!
Our first son is [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] [name_m]Mark[/name_m]. We call him [name_u]Bert[/name_u]. Both names are family names - [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] was my husband’s late grandfather, and [name_m]Mark[/name_m] is my dad.
We’d like to honor family again, although on the maternal side. I’d like to do a “G” name or a strong “G” sound (my mother-in-law is [name_f]Gail[/name_f]).
We don’t like anything trendy - it has to go with [name_u]Bert[/name_u] - so [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], [name_m]Garret[/name_m], [name_u]Grady[/name_u], etc are out. We don’t want [name_u]Bert[/name_u] to feel like he got stuck with the old-fashioned name (am I the only one that feels like “[name_f]Jenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Barbara[/name_f] [name_m]Bush[/name_m]” don’t sound like sisters, let alone twins?!)! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband likes “[name_u]George[/name_u]” but I can’t wrap my head around it. We are also thinking about “[name_u]August[/name_u]” but calling him “[name_u]Gus[/name_u]” but my husband thinks [name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_u]Gus[/name_u] don’t go together.
We do have another family name - “Goodhue.” But what is the nickname for that? I was trying to figure out a way to make “[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]” a nickname for “Goodhue” but it feels like a stretch.
HELP! Otherwise I’m going to end up with [name_m]Galileo[/name_m]!
Nicknames for Goodhue are [name_m]Huey[/name_m]! I think [name_m]Huey[/name_m] and [name_u]Bert[/name_u] go well together!
If you like other G names that are more old fashion I think [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] would go well for you and for a cuter nickname Godfred nn [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] would be so cute!
More common names are [name_m]Garfield[/name_m] “[name_u]Garry[/name_u]” and [name_m]Garret[/name_m] “[name_m]Rhett[/name_m]” is also adorable!
Aw, [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] is so cute! I really like [name_u]August[/name_u] actually. [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and [name_u]Bert[/name_u] go together perfectly! I’m not a big fan of Goodhue since it sounds like two words put together. And I actually like [name_m]Galileo[/name_m]!
Some other ideas:
[name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] “[name_m]Gabe[/name_m]”
[name_u]Galen[/name_u]
[name_m]Galahad[/name_m]
[name_m]Gallagher[/name_m]
[name_u]Gardener[/name_u] “[name_u]Gary[/name_u]”
[name_u]Garnett[/name_u]
[name_m]Gatlin[/name_m]
[name_m]Gerald[/name_m] “[name_u]Gerry[/name_u]”
[name_m]Geoffrey[/name_m] “[name_m]Jeff[/name_m]/Geoff”
[name_m]Gerhard[/name_m] “[name_u]Gerry[/name_u]”
[name_m]Gerome[/name_m]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] (I love this one for you!)
[name_m]Gibson[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_u]Glenn[/name_u]
[name_m]Gordan[/name_m]
[name_m]Grant[/name_m]
[name_m]Gregory[/name_m]
[name_m]Gulliver[/name_m] “[name_u]Gull[/name_u]”
[name_m]Gustavo[/name_m]
[name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_u]Gus[/name_u] totally work together! And [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] totally works for Goodhue, as would [name_m]Hugh[/name_m].
[name_m]Gordon[/name_m] is a name that jumps out as working nicely with [name_m]Herbert[/name_m]. And [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m]/ [name_m]Gordon[/name_m] [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] sounds great. [name_m]Gordon[/name_m] could go by [name_m]Don[/name_m].
Others:
[name_m]Gerard[/name_m] ([name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_u]Gerry[/name_u])
[name_m]Giles[/name_m]
[name_m]Gottfried[/name_m]/ [name_m]Godfried[/name_m]/ [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m] ([name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_m]Fred[/name_m]? [name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_m]Frey[/name_m]? [name_u]Bert[/name_u] and Fry? [name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_m]Gold[/name_m]?)
[name_m]Gable[/name_m] (sounds a bit like [name_f]Gail[/name_f], nn [name_m]Gabe[/name_m])
[name_m]Gerald[/name_m] (another that gets to [name_u]Gerry[/name_u])
[name_m]Grover[/name_m] ([name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_u]Grove[/name_u])
[name_m]Garfield[/name_m] ([name_u]Bert[/name_u] and Garf)
[name_m]Gellart[/name_m] ([name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_u]Gill[/name_u])
[name_m]Garth[/name_m]
[name_m]Gustav[/name_m]/ [name_m]Gustaf[/name_m] (another to get to [name_u]Gus[/name_u])
[name_m]Gaspard[/name_m] (maybe [name_f]Perdy[/name_f]? [name_u]Gus[/name_u]?)
[name_m]Gilam[/name_m] ([name_m]Gil[/name_m]/ [name_u]Gill[/name_u])
[name_m]Geoffrey[/name_m] ([name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_m]Geoff[/name_m])
[name_m]Germain[/name_m]/ [name_u]Germaine[/name_u] (another [name_u]Gerry[/name_u])
[name_m]Gunther[/name_m]/ [name_m]Gunter[/name_m] ([name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_u]Guthrie[/name_u])
[name_u]Glenn[/name_u]
[name_m]Godric[/name_m]/ Goodrich (similar to Goodhue, has [name_m]Rick[/name_m]/ [name_m]Rich[/name_m]/ [name_m]Richie[/name_m] as potential nns)
[name_m]Gilford[/name_m] ([name_m]Gil[/name_m]/ [name_u]Gill[/name_u] or [name_m]Ford[/name_m])
[name_m]Guy[/name_m]
[name_m]Gregor[/name_m]/ [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] ([name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_m]Greg[/name_m])
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u] ([name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_m]Doug[/name_m], [name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_u]Gus[/name_u])
Oooh! Fun challenge.
With [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] (Sooo cute!) I really like:
[name_m]Gerard[/name_m]
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m], nn [name_m]Gilby[/name_m] (love how close it is to [name_f]Gail[/name_f]. There’s also [name_m]Gillespie[/name_m].)
[name_m]Gregory[/name_m], nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]George[/name_u], nn [name_m]Geo[/name_m] (your husband is right to like [name_u]George[/name_u].)
Also, other connections to [name_f]Gail[/name_f], just because:
[name_u]Dale[/name_u]
[name_m]Waylon[/name_m]
[name_m]Mikhail[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u], not just due to [name_u]Gus[/name_u], but because gust reminds me of a gale.
[name_m]Winston[/name_m]- kind of sounds like “wind,” as in a gale. And [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] and [name_m]Winston[/name_m], [name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_u]Win[/name_u], is amazing.
[name_u]Gray[/name_u]- handsome and close to [name_f]Gail[/name_f]
