Gael?

This name has a lot of meaning to me. It would be used in the middle spot only.
It means wild in Welsh, which kind of reflects my imagery of my future little ones.

I want your honest opinion on [name_u]Gael[/name_u]. Does it look like a silly misspelling of [name_u]Gale[/name_u]?

Thank you.

[name_f]Mina[/name_f].

I love it. Not so much for a girl, but definitely handsome on a boy.

I like it. I live near [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]'s College in [name_u]California[/name_u], and their sports teams are called the Gaels, so it mostly reminds me of that. I think it’s distinctive, though, and as a middle? Easy, no problem.

I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_u]Gale[/name_u]… never considered [name_u]Gael[/name_u] before, even though I lived in [name_m]Wales[/name_m] for 5 years!

I think they are pronounced differently though, [name_u]Gael[/name_u] is more like - [name_u]Gay[/name_u]-el.

Ooh, I love it! I always thought it was handsome on [name_u]Gael[/name_u] [name_u]Garcia[/name_u] [name_m]Bernal[/name_m], but I never knew its meaning. I like it much more now. I like [name_u]Gale[/name_u] on a boy as well, but I think that [name_u]Gael[/name_u] is fantastic.

Is it pronounced the same as [name_u]Gale[/name_u], or is it pronounced more like guy-el? Or are there two separate names both spelled [name_u]Gael[/name_u]?

Regardless of its good points I think it’s a name that has a lot of potential to be socially uncomfortable for a boy growing up, at least in the US. First of all, there’s the fact that it sounds close to “gay”…second of all, there’s the fact that it sound like the feminine (nick)name [name_f]Gail[/name_f]. Since you’re thinking of it as a middle name, most of that is alleviated…I personally wouldn’t want to give my son a middle name he might be embarrassed if his peers found out, but if you really love it then it might win out.

It is pronounced ga-yell, according to it’s page on Nameberry.

@chestnutmare - yeah, that’s kind of the only problem with [name_u]Gael[/name_u]. I would only ever use it in the middle spot, 1. Because of teasing potential 2. Because I wouldn’t be brave enough to use that name in the first spot.
