Hello all, I haven’t posted before but desperately need your help. We are committed to naming our child Garfunkel- it’s a family name- but we need some cute nicknames that could work as everyday names that aren’t quite as bulky as Garfunkel… All we have come up with is [name]Gary[/name], [name]Garth[/name], etc and I’m not wild about those… Please help! Thank you in advance.
I won’t comment on the name choice seeing as you’re committed to it My go to as a nickname would be [name]Garth[/name], but other suggestions could be:
Kel
[name]Kelly[/name]
Gart
[name]Art[/name]
[name]Artie[/name]
Arfie
Also, depending on what middle name you go with you might be able to come up with something there, like initials or something?
[name]Gull[/name] could work…this would be my fave! I don’t really get the [name]Art[/name] or [name]Artie[/name] from Garfunkel as there’s no ‘t’! Maybe [name]Arkie[/name]? Kel or [name]Kelly[/name] could also work! Funky is cute for fun I prefer just [name]Gar[/name] to [name]Gary[/name] or [name]Garth[/name]!
Also if you’ve decided on a middle there might be a whole host of other options?
Garfunkel is an unusual choice. Not that that’s a bad thing.
I don’t have any new suggestions. I would use the nickname [name]Garth[/name], [name]Art[/name], Kel or [name]Kelly[/name].
Kel is my favorite of those.
I think [name]Garth[/name] is cute! I agree, a middle name could open up a host of possibilities. You could also always call your child by whatever middle name you choose, I know lots of people who have family FNs who do that.
I really like [name]Garth[/name].
[name]Do[/name] you really want your child to have to go through life with Funk in his name? I am not meaning to be harsh, but this one seems waaaaaaay over the top. [name]How[/name] about Garfunkel in the middle?
I’d use Garfunkel as a middle name if anything, family name or not. I teach second grade and we have a [name]Garfield[/name] on our grade level. He’s constantly ridiculed and that name is much better than Garfunkel. Yikes.
Kel!
^ that’s all I wanted to say, but the forum said my post was too short…
I like [name]Garth[/name]
If it’s set in stone and you need a nickname, I like Kel.
FWIW though (and you may have already thought about this), Garfunkel is usually a Jewish last name, and if you’re looking to honor someone Jewish, we don’t really do the surname thing. It’s not wrong or bad, its just not the way we usually do things (historically, Jewish surnames are a very recent invention, we identify as son of X or daughter of X in a religious context). Is the person a relative, a friend, or just someone you look up to? Obviously you chose this over the person’s first name for a reason, but it’s going to be pretty hard to wear as it is.
Agree with spring13. I am very confused about this choice.
[name]Garth[/name] & Kel work
[name]Kelly[/name]
