[name]Hi[/name] everyone- Hubby and I are not currently expecting, but like most of you, I love to think about what I would name the next baby girl.
As you can see in my signature, I really like [name]Marin[/name]/[name]Maren[/name], and [name]Artis[/name]. Hubby is not fond of [name]Artis[/name]. Ok, he absolutely hates it!!! So I’d love to know your thoughts on [name]Garnet[/name]. It’s an old family name (my great-granfather’s middle name), and it is really sticking with me.
[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Garnet[/name]? What middle would you pair with it? [name]Do[/name] you think it sounds nice with [name]Willow[/name] [name]Allegra[/name] and [name]Veda[/name] [name]Juliette[/name]?
I think it matches well with [name]Willow[/name] and [name]Veda[/name]. I like [name]Garnet[/name], but I don’t love it because it reminds me of “Darn It!” I still like it though and it would be nice for a baby with red hair or that was born in [name]January[/name].
Thanks for the responses. I don’t think that “darn it” bothers me, so that wouldn’t deter me.
It’s funny that you mention red hair…I always assumed I wouldn’t have a baby with red hair because my hubby is black, but [name]Veda[/name]'s hair is medium brown with a very coppery tinge! My mom is a redhead, I have a bunch of redheaded cousins, my grandmother is a redhead, and it’s her father who was [name]Harold[/name] [name]Garnet[/name].
I would like it; if it wasn’t my best friend’s cat - sorry! As an unusual gem name though I think it’s cool, I slightly prefer [name]Onyx[/name], and I think that [name]Garnet[/name] has more substance and “grrr” than [name]Willow[/name] and [name]Veda[/name] - which are lovely but very feminine and delicate imo.
I like [name]Garnet[/name] and had it on my long list for awhile. I usually do remove it because when I write it the R blends in with the N but that may just be me. Still a cool name (also might a appeal to the Hubby if he play Final [name]Fantasy[/name] video games at all).
Haha! Yeah, I have a hard time picturing a name on a person after I’ve heard it on a pet!! I do think it feels a little ‘harder’ than [name]Willow[/name], and [name]Veda[/name], but it really feels like it fits, at least to me.
Thanks for commenting, teacherma! No problems writing [name]Garnet[/name], I’ve tried it out!
I am NEVER one to criticize using a boy’s name for a girl, I think that’s just fine. However all the Garnets I know are old men, so it’s hard for me to visualize a woman called this. Truthfully though it’s no different than [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Opal[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Topaz[/name] & [name]Peridot[/name]. It’s just so weird how naming convention is seemingly arbitrary. (ie: I like [name]Spring[/name] for a girl and don’t see why I can’t name her that if there are Autumns, [name]Winters[/name] and [name]Summers[/name]…but that’s a whole other thread)
I say go for it if you love it, break some new ground.
I’m surprised to see [name]Garnet[/name] as a boy’s name. I’ve only known one [name]Garnet[/name] in my life and it was a very elderly church lady. I guess it’s kind of cool as a boy’s name though…I’d say go with it!
Thanks everyone! I’m glad to hear that it is relatively well received. I’ve never met anyone named [name]Garnet[/name], so for me the only association I have is an old family name. I wasn’t sure what everyone would think of it, overall.
The more I think on it, the more I like it :o
If anyone else has any thoughts, I’m open to hearing them!
I really like [name]Garnet[/name], however I associate it with the Australian TV series The Saddle Club because one of the horses was named [name]Garnet[/name]. Overall though I think it’s pretty.
I like [name]Garnet[/name], boy or girl, for many reasons but it is harsh next to [name]Willow[/name] & [name]Veda[/name]. If I saw the three written I would assume [name]Garnet[/name] was a boy
What about Garron/Garen (rhymes with [name]Maren[/name])? It’s unisex but softer than [name]Garnet[/name] so it fits better with [name]Willow[/name] & [name]Veda[/name]
I like [name]Garnet[/name], but if you’re looking for a gem name, I definitely prefer [name]Pearl[/name]. I think [name]Pearl[/name] flows better with your other two daughters’ names, plus I think it’s a prettier stone than garnets. [name]Garnet[/name] is sort of…growling in comparison.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Garnet[/name]! I would love to meet a little one with this name. I seem to be drawn to “N” names with it, even though that makes it slightly “N” heavy ([name]Garnet[/name] [name]Nadia[/name], [name]Garnet[/name] [name]Noelle[/name], etc.)–I also like [name]Garnet[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]/[name]Garnet[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name], too, though.
