There’s a novel called “Gathering Blue” by [name_f]Lois[/name_f] [name_m]Lowry[/name_m] about a young disabled girl trying to survive in a post apocalyptic society, and as a name nerd, I was always fascinated by the way the culture in the book named their children.
Basically, every baby starts with a one syllable name, and as you grow you get more syllables. Teenagers have two syllable names, adults have three, and in old age you get four (four syllables is considered a huge deal, as surviving to an old age is pretty difficult in this world). So for example a baby might be [name_f]Ann[/name_f], then [name_f]Anna[/name_f], then [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], then [name_f]Annabella[/name_f].
[name_f]My[/name_f] question is; what would you name children in this naming system?
The syllables don’t necessarily have to go in order (for example, you could go [name_f]Liv[/name_f] → [name_f]Livi[/name_f] → [name_f]Livia[/name_f] ->Olivia) so long as the syllables match up.

I absolutely love [name_f]Lois[/name_f] Lowry’s books! I actually don’t remembering this one very well- I might have to reread it!
I’m thinking…
[name_f]Lu[/name_f] → [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] → [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] → [name_f]Luciana[/name_f]
(loo-SEE-uh and loo-see-AHH-nuh pronunciations)
[name_m]Zach[/name_m] → [name_m]Zacha[/name_m] → [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] → [name_m]Zacharias[/name_m]
(Is [name_m]Zacha[/name_m] a name? I don’t think so, but I think it’s cute and fun! Pronounced zak-uh. And [name_m]Zacharias[/name_m] pronounced zach-ah-ree-as so it matches Zachary’s pronunciation)

Interesting!!
I think I would go with
[name_m]Sun[/name_m] → [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f] → Sundari → Sundarya
or
[name_m]Sol[/name_m] → Solmaz → [name_f]Soledad[/name_f] → [name_f]Solomiya[/name_f]
Elle/Ella/Eleanor/Eleanora, I think. Really struggling with boy names. Maybe Lee/Leo/Leonard/Leonardo? I know [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] is usually pronounced with two syllables but I guess I would just pronounce it wrong.

I would probably do:
Eve—Eva—Evangele—Evangeline
[name_m]Or[/name_m]
Elle—Ellie—Elior—Eliora
[name_m]Or[/name_m]
Belle—Bella—Abella—Arabella (tempted to do Ar—Ara—Arabel—Arabella but I don’t think Ar is a name lol)
[name_m]Or[/name_m]
Liv—Livi—Livia—Olivia
Not sure for a boy, there’s only two four-syllable names I like (Bartholomew and Maximilian), and I don’t think Bartha, Barthola, or Maximil are names

Gathering [name_f]Blue[/name_f] is a great novel. I highly recommend the other books in the series as well (especially The Giver). As a lifelong name nerd, the names in The Giver (particularly [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] & Asher) have been favorites of mine since I read the book in elementary school.
