I finally got DH to budge on the name [name_u]Addison[/name_u] today…only come to find out that my sister is naming her baby girl [name_u]Adysen[/name_u]. Ugh. Back to the drawing board.
Only name we can agree on otherwise is [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. Not sure if we’d spell it traditionally with 2 Ms or “[name_f]Ema[/name_f]” (my great grandmother spelled it this way). We both love it, but only issue is that hubby’s sister is called [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]. Are [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f]/[name_f]Ema[/name_f] too close for niece and aunt? Hubby says no and not to worry, but I am worried. I’m losing hope that we’ll find another name we like as much
I’d say they’re not too similar, but I understand your concern. They sound very similar but have different meanings. If that’s the name you both love, just go for it. You’ll probably regret it later if you don’t, unless you find a name you both love equally as much or even more.
For siblings, yes way too close. For an auntie and a neice, no thats cute if anything! They won’t be called “[name_f]Emma[/name_f] & [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]” like ever, and you can teach your daughter to call her aunt or Aunt G or [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] whatever y’all want to use I wouldn’t worry about it.
For sisters: yes. In this situation, I wouldn’t worry about it at all. If your sister in law had just named her daughter [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], I may run it by her before choosing a really similar name like [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. But I don’t think anyone would think anything of it in this situation.
Like others have said, as siblings it would be way too close, but as an aunt and a niece it won’t be a problem in the slightest! If you love the name, use it, no need to worry
