Genevie

Disclaimer: I think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is perfect as is!

But still, why do I not see [name_f]Genevie[/name_f] around more? I think it’s very sweet and pretty, and would make a lovely addition to the [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]/[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]/[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] group of names which are so popular on the site at the moment.

What are your thoughts on this one?

It is rather pretty but it also feels incomplete which the others don’t.

I’ve never heard it before but I think it’s one that could definitely grow on me. It’s really sweet and endearing

Perhaps it’s not seen so often though simply because it doesn’t sound as distinct from [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] as [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] does from [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] from [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]?

[name_f]Genevie[/name_f] feels very incomplete, and it is not as established of a name as [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]/[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]/[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]/et al.

As a longtime fan of [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], I’d advise to stick with the original.

I think because it sounds like they meant to write [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] but forgot to include the second ‘V’?

It seems a bit incomplete to me? I could see myself using it more than [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], which is lovely, but much too frilly for my taste.

I just keep waiting for something else in the last syllable.

This reminds me of something I recently posted in the namespotting thread…I know of a Gennivee and every time I see her name again I swoon at how cute it is. And this is not a young person, I guess creative spellings have always been a thing. But I also like it quite a bit the way you’re spelling it.

In all honesty I didn’t know [name_f]Genevie[/name_f] was a name, and I would’ve guessed it was a nn for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. I think because that’s how I’ve first come across it, it’s a little difficult to see as a ‘complete’ stand alone name (and I’m very much for nn names as full names). It could probably work on the right person though.

I don’t particularly like it. Sounds like and incomplete name or a weird, hybrid nickname.

I’ve never heard it, so to be it looks like a misspelled “[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]”;

I think because it looks less complete than the others. When I read the title of this thread, I thought it was a typo, and I’m sure others would too. Not to mention, [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] have different sounds when spoken as the stress is in different places. [name_f]Genevie[/name_f] sounds almost the same as [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], and (I’m assuming) all the syllables are stressed similarly, so the two names sound almost identical when spoken aloud.
Still, [name_f]Genevie[/name_f] is a beautiful name!

I actually love it! There was a berry around when I first joined whose username was @genevie, and I thought it was so whimsical and [name_m]French[/name_m] and sweet.

I think I’d use [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] or [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] if it came down to it, but I’ve loved [name_f]Genevie[/name_f] for years now! I also came across two (TWO!) Genieves when I was researching names of naval WWII veterans killed in the line of duty… they were both wives or mothers or sisters of the sailors, and I was so intrigued! I don’t even know how to say that one—[name_f]Jen[/name_f]-[name_f]EVE[/name_f]?

@[name_u]Ash[/name_u] Wow, Genieve… maybe “jen-ee-EV”? Fascinating!

I’d use [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] too, I think (nn [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]!), but I just thought [name_f]Genevie[/name_f] was intriguing. Very sweet and fresh, and perhaps a nice alternative to some trending names right now.
