This is my latest in the never-ending quest for a pitch perfect [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] combo. Nickname would be [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]. (and sometimes [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] for short) That is subject to change, though. [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] means ‘cause of joy’ and [name_u]Bright[/name_u] is one of my favorite word names. I think it makes the combo a little sparkly but still energetic. And somewhat less frilly.
Questions!
First impression - what do you think?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the nickname [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think keeping [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] is necessary to maintain the option of [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] as a nickname?
[name_m]How[/name_m] is the flow? Smooth enough?
What kind of girl do you picture [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] to be?
Any feedback is always appreciated - you berries never fail to bring up helpful points and offer sincere advice. So thanks!
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is delightful - but I much prefer [name_f]Marina[/name_f] to [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] and definitely do not like [name_u]Bright[/name_u].
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the nickname [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]?
Not one bit - I have a serious thing against using well established given names as nicknames, when they aren’t in the slightest bit ‘nicknamey’. Not to mention [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] from [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] makes no sense to me I think [name_f]Genna[/name_f] or even [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] would work a bit better.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think keeping [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] is necessary to maintain the option of [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] as a nickname?
If you’re gonna do it, you definitely need something with an M in it next - or [name_f]Emma[/name_f].
[name_m]How[/name_m] is the flow? Smooth enough?
I think it flows ok, I’m just not a fan of the middles
What kind of girl do you picture [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] to be?
I picture a [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] to be blonde, with pale blue eyes, somewhat quiet, but with a sense of adventure. She seems the type to always been reading and imagining.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] seems really bright and bold and happy! I really like it, actually, although I almost feel like, if you want to call her [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], why don’t you just name her [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]? I think a lot of people will wonder the same thing, especially since [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]'s not a common nn for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] are full names in their own right (and fairly familiar ones these days, too). I do think it makes sense, and I really like [name_f]Marnina[/name_f]! I’ve not come across it before, but it reminds me of a lot of names that are in-style (or bantered about, at least) these days, like [name_f]Antonina[/name_f], [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], and [name_f]Marina[/name_f].
I think it solves your [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] problem pretty well, but I’m not sure [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is the best. Without [name_f]Marnina[/name_f], I don’t think you could opt for [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] at all. I still think it’s a great combo, though, and I love [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]… I’m just not sure about them together.
[name_u]Haley[/name_u]:
I was considering [name_f]Marina[/name_f] in place of [name_f]Marnina[/name_f]. [name_f]Marina[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] sounded more wordy to me, though. I don’t really get why it’s such a problem to use [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] as a nickname - people ask for full names to “get to” [name_f]Emma[/name_f] all the time - it’s just another letter!
I agree with the imaginative part - [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] strikes me as creative and imaginative. Thanks for the feedback!
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]:
[name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like it! Thanks for the help. I understand the whole nickname thing, but I have this fetish towards nicknames that don’t really seems like nicknames, but secretly lead to really cool and elaborate full names. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t ask me why, it’s just how my mind works. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like [name_f]Marnina[/name_f]! Found it in a name book. And yes, using [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] really avoids the rhyming issue. I’m surprised you all seem so opposed to using [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. If that one n were an m, it would be completely intuitive! It doesn’t really seem like much of a stretch to me…
First impression?
I really like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], it’s beautiful. I totally read [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] as [name_f]Marina[/name_f] though. [name_u]Bright[/name_u] I thought was the last name.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the nickname [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]?
I love [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] but not for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. It seems a bit forces since you already have the intuitive nickname option of [name_f]Genna[/name_f]/[name_f]Jenna[/name_f].
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think keeping [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] is necessary to maintain the option of [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] as a nickname?
Nobody will really know her middle name anyway, so no.
[name_m]How[/name_m] is the flow? Smooth enough?
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] seems good enough.
What kind of girl do you picture [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] to be?
A smart little girl, loves to draw, is very polite and (mostly) does what she’s told / listens to what you say.
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is somebody totally different to me.
[name_f]Marnina[/name_f] looks weird to me (sorry!), I prefer [name_f]Marina[/name_f]. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] sounds lovely though.
First impression - what do you think? I love [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] is okay, and [name_u]Bright[/name_u] is just delightful. Overall, nice name.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the nickname [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]? I kinda like it.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think keeping [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] is necessary to maintain the option of [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] as a nickname? Yes. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] nn [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is just weird. [name_f]Genna[/name_f]/[name_f]Jenna[/name_f] or [name_f]Evie[/name_f] are a lot more intuitive. But I like the idea of using both first and middle name(s) to create a nickname.
[name_m]How[/name_m] is the flow? Smooth enough? Yes.
What kind of girl do you picture [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] to be? Someone’s lively, sweet and cheerful.
First impression?
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is a beautiful name. However the rest of the combo struck me as a bit difficult. I couldn’t really wrap my head around [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] and get these visions of [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] rolled up into one. Not a fan - (also not a fan or [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] so maybe it’s the -rn- thing really). [name_u]Bright[/name_u] did strike me as a ln. Though that doesn’t bother me so much as I think [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] (while a bit [name_f]Rainbow[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] to me) would be a great and functional nom de plume.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the nickname [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]?
I think it’s non intuitive and I think [name_f]Genna[/name_f] as a variant would be better. (I understand you might be trying to avoid the double n thing though). I also think [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is a great name on it’s own and doesn’t need a long version. Honestly though I’d get [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] as a nn for any gem-stone name like ruby, emerald, pearl before [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. I think it’s because the [name_f]Gen[/name_f] isn’t quite a [name_f]Gem[/name_f] and it feels odd to try to force it to be. If I really wanted [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] as a nn I might choose a third or hyphen middle so you get Genevive Mary-Ann [name_u]Bright[/name_u] LN (obvi [name_f]MaryAnn[/name_f] is just a filler here but you get the point.)
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think keeping [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] is necessary to maintain the option of [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] as a nickname? No. I think you need to find a better fit for a fn though if you do.
[name_m]How[/name_m] is the flow? Smooth enough?
As said above [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] throws me for a loop completely so the flow is automatically off.
What kind of girl do you picture [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] [name_u]Bright[/name_u] to be?
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] I see a a quite, deep-waters sort of girl. A little shy but strong.
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is bubbly, confident and the life of any party. They really aren’t the same person to me at all (maybe that’s why I find [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] of [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] difficult).
I love the name [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. Beautiful and classy.
I actually like [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] a lot, but I agree that [name_f]Marnina[/name_f] is a mouthful. Looks like a cross between [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and [name_f]Narnia[/name_f]. I’d prefer [name_f]Marianna[/name_f].
[name_u]Bright[/name_u] is wordy, and if you love it I agree that placing it as a 2nd middle is best.
I agree that [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is not a natural nn for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. To me it’s the same as using [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]. Having an M middle name does make it a tad more logical. Honestly, you can use anything you want as a nn. You can name her [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Kara[/name_f] if you want, but then it’s more of a pet name that a nn as nothing has been “nicked” lol
I like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Maris[/name_f].
