I’ve recently started loving the name [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and think it fits in perfectly with my list of “useable antiques”. My only concern is that our last name begins with a V. Does [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] sound too smooshed when paired with a [name_f]Ver[/name_f]- last name? We are nickname people so we’d probably use something [name_f]Evie[/name_f] part of the time, but I’d hate to use a name that we feel like sounded bad in full with our last name.
I think it depends on how many syllables your ln is. I really like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] V. It’s memorable. I don’t know why everyone here seems to have a problem with alliteration or “too much (letter.)” If someone has an unusual name with a lot of the same sounds, I’d be more likely to remember who they are.
If your last name starts with a “V” sound like the one in [name_m]Vermont[/name_m], I like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] with it, since the last “v” in the -ieve part has more of an “f” sound to it. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] “[name_m]Vermont[/name_m]” would be very cute!
Our last name is a [name_m]German[/name_m] sounding two syllable name. I actually like alliteration normally. I tried to sell DH on [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] V., but he wasn’t interested in them. I only worry that the first name ending in a V and the last name beginning with one would make them run together. But I’m glad to hear that you don’t think it would be a problem
I don’t think it’ll be a problem either. And such a beautiful choice!
I think some letters of the alphabet are more problematic than others when it comes to repetitive sounds. Personally, I don’t like a lot of s’s in combos (too lispy), w’s (I wouldn’t want to end up sounding like [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] Fudd), n’s (too matchy), l’s (tongue twisting) and t/b/d’s (too choppy). [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Ver[/name_f]- would be ok if the surname didn’t have any similar sounds other than the “v”. Does your DH approve of the name?
is gorgeous, but with a v last name? A bit too much V.
I like it!
I think it should be fine.
I think it works!
I like alliterative sounds, and I agree that [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] V. would definitely be memorable. I think it works. So long as you don’t use [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] as a middle.
I don’t like the letter ‘v’ much in the first place, and find [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] a quite harsh name (something about the ‘veev’ sound at the end). I think it wold be a bit much with a ‘V’ last name.
Thanks so much for everyone’s input! I haven’t run [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] by DH yet, but the more I say it the more adorable I think it is.
I love it in full, but we are nickname people so I’d love to have a short form in mind. What is your favorite nn for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]?
