Genevieve?

We are due in three weeks with our fourth and final baby, a girl, and I’m in a state of perpetual indecision on what to name her.

Likely, nothing will be decided until the ink dries on her birth certificate, so until then, I’m looking at all options.

Our mutually-loved, favorite name so far is [name_f]Anne[/name_f]/[name_f]Annie[/name_f], and this will be our fall back choice if nothing else strikes the right chord.

One name that caught my eye tonight is [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], and I wonder how it fits with our other children’s names: [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (no one uses a nickname and we wouldn’t use a nickname for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], either).

It strikes me as historic, solid, and pretty, but I’d love opinions to help convince my very traditional DH that [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] deserves consideration.

Thank you!

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] feels grand, elegant and classic. I like how it’s long like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] so you’d have two kids with short names and two with longer names

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is a lovely choice. I think it fits quite well with your other children’s names. They follow a similar style, the shared letters a, e, and n between all the names makes it feel visually cohesive, and all the names have a soft quality to them. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is most definitely historical considering its namesake [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] who lived during the 5th century [name_m]AD[/name_m].

I hope you don’t mind me bringing your favourite, [name_f]Anne[/name_f], into this but I do find [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] offers a more distinct choice given [name_f]Anne[/name_f]'s visual similarity to [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is the lesser known out of all your names but it’s still quite recognisable. I don’t think you’d have any major challenges with pronunciation. Overall, I find it very pretty and feminine. All the best with your search!

This is true! Thank you

Thank you! I agree with you that is certainly more distinctive and, as much as I love [name_f]Anne[/name_f], you’re correct that it is very similar to [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

I’ve shared both of your responses with my DH

I love [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]! It’s distinctive, bold and soft all at the same time, but not so much as to overshadow any of her siblings.
