Our current pick for a Baby #2 (if it’s a girl) is [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Aveline[/name], but I don’t yet have the “It’s perfect!” feeling about it that I had when we chose our daughter’s name. Please read below for my reservations and let me know if I’m being silly and this is a great choice, or if I should change it up a little.
[name]GEORGIA[/name]: I really do like this name but I don’t love that it’s a “place name”, even though we chose it because it is the female version of [name]George[/name] (a very special family name). Also, the baby will have a cousin named [name]London[/name] so I feel like maybe it’s a little weird to have two “place names” in the family, but I may be over-thinking it.
I was kind of hoping to avoid another “ia” name since our daughter is [name]Celia[/name] and I would ideally want their names to be less “matchy” if possible. Another important factor in choosing a name (same with our first daughter) is that I want something that is not very common, but is recognizable. Something that is not going to confuse people, and has only one spelling and one pronunciation. I think Georgia fits that bill pretty well.
[name]AVELINE[/name]: I searched high and low for a non-filler middle name that does not end in “a” and finally stumbled upon [name]Aveline[/name] here on nameberry. I had never heard of it and I thought it was beautiful. What sold me on it is (according to nameberry, although I can’t seem to find much proof to back this up) it is supposedly a French version of [name]Hazel[/name]. My daughter’s middle name is [name]Hazel[/name] so I thought that was really neat and would make a nice subtle connection between their two middle names, while still having two completely different looks and sounds. (Although I was not specifically looking for any special connection between their names).
I love this name so much that I would almost consider switching it around to [name]Aveline[/name] [name]Georgia[/name], but I’m worried it would always get misspelled and mispronounced. To be honest, it took me a LOT of googling to figure out the pronunciation until I finally realized it’s one of those that can be pronounced a few different ways. I’m pretty sure the correct French pronunciation is Av-uh-leen (as in [name]Josephine[/name]), but we would be pronouncing it Av-uh-line (like [name]Caroline[/name]) which I’m pretty sure is acceptable, but please correct me if I’m wrong.
I am willing to switch the first and middle name around or possibly drop one or the other, but would like to keep at least one of them as the middle name. Thanks so much, and thanks for making it this far in my rambling!
SOLID NAME! Nothing can probably keep you from thinking about it until she is here but you have more than enough reasons to be confident about your baby girl name. I also fully support you using [name]Aveline[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] but I think I have a more adventurious style than you and I’d hate for you to regret not using [name]Georgia[/name] because you are right that [name]Aveline[/name] is one of those names you have to ask the person who has it how THEY pronounce it to be sure you aren’t saying it wrong. [name]Georgia[/name] is like [name]Austin[/name] to me: a place name that I always forget is a place name. [name]Georgia[/name] feels more “classic feminine” to me. Good luck!
Thank you so much, ellieberry! That is great to hear. I know I over-think things way too much, and since we don’t share our names with family and friends until the baby is born, it’s nice to get an unbiased, honest opinion
Oh and just in case we do consider a switcharoo and go with [name]Aveline[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] (not ruling it out completely), do you think the av-uh-line (rather than “leen”) pronunciation is acceptable? [name]Do[/name] you think it would be mistaken for [name]Adeline[/name]? Thanks again. [name]Reading[/name] your response makes me feel better already.
I think it’s really pretty! I had hte same thought as helmarmene, if you like those two.
I think [name]Aveline[/name] is totally acceptable. I don’t really have anything to back that up, but I just imagine that and I think it’s such a rare French name into English, it’s not like pronouncing [name]Josephine[/name] to rhyme with fine. : D.
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Aveline[/name] is SO gorgeous! (And [name]Celia[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name] sound just lovely together!) Definitely keep it!
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Aveline[/name] is gorgeous, and I think she’s such a stunner with [name]Celia[/name] [name]Hazel[/name]! Such sweet and vintage names. The nns [name]Georgie[/name], [name]Gigi[/name], or even [name]Gia[/name] are lovely, too.
If you’re concerned about the -ia names, have you considered [name]Georgina[/name] [name]Aveline[/name] or [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Aveline[/name]? I personally prefer them both to [name]Georgia[/name], and it would make them less matchy for sure. I especially love [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Aveline[/name].
I’ve always said [name]Aveline[/name] as ah-veh-leen… but I think ah-veh-line could totally work, too. I think [name]Adeline[/name] is add-eh-line, so I don’t think it’d be too much of a stretch. I, too, would be just as happy to see it swapped–I actually love [name]Aveline[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] more. Something about the "A"s not being back to back or something. It has a much sweeter and romantic feel to me, and [name]Celia[/name] and [name]Aveline[/name] are a bit more distinctive. If you love [name]Georgia[/name], though, I think you could completely leave it how it is!
It’s just lovely! I also like [name]Aveline[/name] [name]Georgia[/name], however [name]Georgia[/name] seems really special to you and doesn’t seem in the same category as [name]London[/name] to me at all. ([name]Way[/name] more classic!)
I think your names are gorgeous. I really love [name]Aveline[/name] and either pronunciation is perfectly acceptable! I think [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Aveline[/name] would be perfect!
I agree with [name]Ash[/name] that [name]Georgina[/name] or [name]Georgiana[/name] are preferable to [name]Georgia[/name]. They are also easy to say and spell.
As for [name]Aveline[/name], the beauty of this name is the sound “[name]Ah[/name]-veh-leen” so my heart sinks when you say you would alter the pronunciation. If you really like the -“line” ending then choose a name like [name]Adeline[/name] and you will save yourself a lot of explaining and spelling. Maybe you could use another tree or color name as your daughters middle name to connect it with [name]Hazel[/name]: [name]Aspen[/name], [name]Acacia[/name], [name]Laurel[/name], [name]Linden[/name], [name]Cerise[/name], [name]Marigold[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Azure[/name].
Thank you all very much! It was so nice waking up to all this helpful and reassuring feedback this morning. I do like [name]Georgiana[/name] and will run it by the hubby today, but I think you all have convinced me to stick with my original choice. I guess my reasons for second guessing it weren’t as serious as I thought. [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Aveline[/name] it is!
I do still have a sweet spot for [name]Aveline[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] so I think we will keep that option on the table and we can always decide when she’s born (if it’s even a “she”! ha) which order to use the names in. But I am just very glad we have two names settled now.
@Peach, Thank you for your honest feedback about the pronunciation. The last thing I would want to do is butcher a name so I will keep that in mind. I am not opposed to pronouncing it “leen”. When I first read it, I read it as “line” since it looked like [name]Adeline[/name] to me but soon realized other people were saying it the “leen” way. I have no issue with changing the way I am currently pronouncing it. [name]Both[/name] ways sound lovely to me. Thanks so much!
