So I’m in the process of revamping my name list and I’d love some opinions and/or suggestions.
I love the name [name]Georgia[/name] and it honors my grandpa (he passed away a month ago) but, for the life of me I can’t find any middle names to go with it. I was playing around with names and came up with [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Mary[/name] ([name]Mary[/name] also honors family; it was my great-grandmother’s name — who ironically up until a few years ago I didn’t even know was named [name]Mary[/name]. We always just called her Grandma White. :-P) Is it too stuffy?
My other question is I can’t find any (sibling) names I like with [name]Georgia[/name]. I tend to like no-nonsense girl names (not frilly but 100% girl) and boy names that are strong but not “hopped up on steroids” ([name]Butch[/name], [name]Duke[/name], etc. etc.), one of my favorite boy names is [name]Ephraim[/name] but I’m not the least bit religious and the multiple pronunciations (I pronounce if F-rum) definitely give me pause.
I’m also a fan of names that sound like they’ve been plucked straight from the 1880s (I’m pretty sure I was born in the wrong century!)
Some family names (it’s not necessary to use them but I do love the idea of names grounded in family history, my middle name honors my grandma and I’ve always loved feeling tied to her in that way):
Boys:
[name]George[/name]
[name]Lloyd[/name]
[name]William[/name]
[name]Christopher[/name]
[name]Hugh[/name]
[name]Sherlock[/name] (family surname by marriage from the late 1880s. I think it’d be kinda cool as a mn; not so sure he’d feel the same )
Girls:
[name]Regina[/name] (my middle name, I do not like it as a first name, unfortunately)
[name]Pauline[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]
[name]Betty[/name]
[name]Angela[/name]
[name]Michelle[/name]
[name]Lois[/name]
Any suggestions/comments would be much appreciated!
I love the name [name]Georgia[/name]!! I think pairing it with [name]Mary[/name] definitely makes it less exciting though. You want a middle name that can complement the lovely [name]Georgia[/name] without diminishing it or outshining it. My favorites are [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Lilac[/name].
As for sisters, how about:
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Fern[/name]
I definitely see your point about [name]Mary[/name] diminishing [name]Georgia[/name]'s sparkle.
I really love [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]! So pretty. I also like [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]. And [name]Ramona[/name] sounds amazing as a sister to [name]Georgia[/name]!
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Mary[/name] is so pretty! [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Lilac[/name] is nice but makes the name sound like you’re referencing a lilac from [name]Georgia[/name].
I could make combos with your male family names alone. [name]William[/name] [name]Sherlock[/name], [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Hugh[/name], [name]George[/name] [name]Lloyd[/name]? [name]Sherlock[/name] is too cool of a family name to pass up. With the current [name]Holmes[/name] craze I’m surprised [name]Sherlock[/name] hasn’t been getting more attention. Other ideas: [name]Everett[/name] [name]Hugh[/name], [name]Owen[/name] [name]Christopher[/name], [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Lloyd[/name], [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]George[/name], [name]Dominic[/name] [name]William[/name], [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Sherlock[/name]?
What do you think of [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Mary[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Regina[/name], [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Angela[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Betty[/name], [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Pauline[/name], [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Michelle[/name], or [name]Corinne[/name] [name]Lois[/name]? Not sure if you like any of those first names, just trying to think of names in the same style as [name]Georgia[/name]…
I love [name]Georgia[/name]. But not sure if I like the [name]Mary[/name] as the mn. [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Marie[/name] sounds better! [name]Marie[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] have the same meaning.
I like [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Mary[/name] but think [name]Georgina[/name] [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Georgiana[/name] (especially when pronounced geor-jay-nah) [name]Mary[/name] is much better!
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Mary[/name] is nice. I also like [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name] and [name]Georgina[/name] [name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name]!
I think [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Mae[/name] or [name]Georgia[/name] [name]May[/name] sound a little fresher than [name]Mary[/name]? [name]Just[/name] my opinion though, it’s not like [name]Mary[/name] would be a big mistake or anything. I would suggest [name]Virginia[/name] or [name]Carolina[/name] to your list (just because they are of a similar style/vintage), but I don’t think you want lots of state-named siblings!
