German boy name that goes with Greta

I am so confused on what to name our little one arriving at the beginning of [name_u]August[/name_u], please help with ideas/thoughts!

I would prefer a [name_m]German[/name_m] origin name to go with our [name_m]German[/name_m] last name that begins with an S (So I have found things like [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], etc. don’t go that well because it runs together), and [name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is his sister’s name so I want it to “go” with that as well even though some people think I’m crazy and tell me that sibling names don’t have to go together!? Last name is 1 syllable if that matters

So far I’m mostly thinking about using [name_m]Walter[/name_m], but looking for other suggestions/names that I may not have thought of yet

[name_m]Otto[/name_m]
[name_m]Karl[/name_m]
[name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]
[name_m]Konrad[/name_m]
[name_m]Fredrick[/name_m] nn [name_m]Fritz[/name_m]

I like [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f]! would that work with your ln?

[name_m]German[/name_m] boy names that I like are:

All the “[name_m]Wil[/name_m]-” variations and have the nn be [name_m]Wil[/name_m]/[name_m]Will[/name_m] (i.e. [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m]/[name_m]Wilford[/name_m]/[name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m]/[name_m]Wilmar[/name_m]/[name_m]Wilmer[/name_m])

Greta is such a sweet name, I love it! I like Walter a lot as well, the only thing I would say is that it doesn’t quite have the sweet, spunky feel Greta does.

Here are some you may like:
Emmerich (Nickname potential: Emery, Rick, Em)
Leonard (nn Leo)*
Klaus
Archie
Hugh
Kaiser (nn Kai)
Roland
Albert (nn Albie)*

Star indicates my favorites for Greta’s baby brother! Good luck- let me know if you like any of these!!!

[name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is lovely, [name_f]Greta[/name_f] is actually quite popular in Germany currently, I know a few.

What kind of [name_m]German[/name_m] name are you looking for? An old one or one that is currently being used in Germany (while also being a [name_m]German[/name_m] name)?
Does it even need to be a [name_m]German[/name_m] name or does it only need to be used (or have been used) in Germany?

Here are some boys’ names that have the same vintage-yet-current vibe that [name_f]Greta[/name_f] has in Germany:
[name_u]August[/name_u] - probably my favourite with [name_f]Greta[/name_f], it’s still not completely back in style here but it doesn’t feel dated anymore
[name_m]Benno[/name_m] - sweet and short and vintage
[name_m]Carl[/name_m] - is getting revived currently
[name_m]Eduard[/name_m] - on the more vintage side though not dated
[name_m]Emil[/name_m] - very popular currently, though I’m not sure what the English prn. would be (though it was also popular in the US in the early 1900s)
[name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] - a bit more extravagant but another vintage name that is currently coming back in style
[name_m]Frederik[/name_m] - though the [name_m]German[/name_m] variation would be [name_m]Friedrich[/name_m] (which is getting more popular), however, the English prn. is nothing like the [name_m]German[/name_m]
[name_m]Henri[/name_m]/[name_m]Henry[/name_m] - as [name_m]Heinrich[/name_m] is extremely dated and also prn. differently in [name_m]German[/name_m]
[name_m]Johann[/name_m] / [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] - a longtime favourite of Germans, it never really went out of style
[name_m]Konrad[/name_m]/[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] - both have the same back-in-style vibe [name_f]Greta[/name_f] does
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] - not very popular but certainly one of the longer vintage names that are back in style
[name_m]Ludwig[/name_m] - “lood-vig” here, which I think is lovely, not so sure of the English prn.
[name_m]Oskar[/name_m] - the K turns it [name_m]German[/name_m], very popular here currently and of the same style as [name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_m]Otto[/name_m] - still a bit dated but the hipsters are bringing it back

I think that is my problem…most of the boy names I can’t think of don’t have the sweet, spunky feel that [name_f]Greta[/name_f] does…I think I’ve really outdone myself with her name, everywhere we go everyone tells me how it’s such a beautiful name, or how much they just [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Greta[/name_f].

So I think I was really hoping to have the same type of reaction to a boys name, but haven’t found it yet. I do like [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] quite a bit, but I worry a bit that people will always and forever be calling him [name_m]Claus[/name_m] (like [name_f]Santa[/name_f] [name_m]Claus[/name_m]) and it ends in the ‘s’ sound…so it has potential to run into our last name.

how about [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] or [name_m]Oskar[/name_m]?

[name_m]Felix[/name_m] is a Latin name, but I know it’s widely used in Germany, and I would describe it as “sweet and spunky” like [name_f]Greta[/name_f].

[name_f]Greta[/name_f] and

[name_m]Kasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Otto[/name_m]
