Finding my girls name was easy, but my boys name is proving to be difficult. Here’s my short list:
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]- [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] has been my favourite boys name forever but I’m not sure it would go with the surname *****dlbeck
[name_m]Marius[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]- I love [name_m]Marius[/name_m] but I think that it might be too [name_m]German[/name_m] for [name_f]England[/name_f] and also too connected with [name_u]Les[/name_u] Mis (love that show!) Also my girls name is [name_f]Marina[/name_f].
[name_m]Luke[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]- I love it but I’m not sure if it is used in Germany or not. Any ideas?
[name_m]Georg[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]- [name_m]Gee[/name_m]-org or [name_u]Gay[/name_u]-org. Personally I love it but like [name_m]Marius[/name_m] it might be too [name_m]German[/name_m].
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]- I like the [name_m]German[/name_m]/English mix but it’s not my favourite name. However my Mum loves [name_m]Miles[/name_m].
[name_m]Mathis[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]- [name_u]Mat[/name_u]-eese, like [name_u]Matisse[/name_u] the artist. Used in Germany and [name_f]France[/name_f]. I think it’s a nice change to [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] and is unusual without being weird.
[name_m]Adam[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]- I love [name_m]Adam[/name_m] because it’s such a strong name.
[name_m]Leon[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]- I prefer [name_m]Leo[/name_m] but I think [name_m]Leon[/name_m] is more of a full name.
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought even before I saw your list was [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and as far as I know it is a popular name in Europe so I would choose [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] especially as you love it so much.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_m]Leon[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]. I think either [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] or Marinus [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] might fit your list.
Are you planning to raise him in [name_f]England[/name_f] or Germany? Because [name_m]Leon[/name_m] is super super popular in Germany, so I wouldn’t chose that one in that case, was on number 1 for several years and is still very popular.
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m] is kind of dated in Germany, more an 80s name.
I really like [name_m]Miles[/name_m] but if you don’t, don’t go for it.
[name_m]Adam[/name_m] is great, it works well in both countries and the pronunciation isn’t as different as for example for [name_m]Mathis[/name_m]. If you go for [name_m]Mathis[/name_m] you could use the Mattis spelling to make pronunciation easier.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite from your list is [name_m]Mathis[/name_m] and [name_m]Marius[/name_m] is a close second. [name_m]Marius[/name_m] would be my first choice for you if [name_f]Marina[/name_f] weren’t your girl’s name. If you were to name your son [name_m]Marius[/name_m] would you regret not getting to use [name_f]Marina[/name_f] in the future? [name_m]Marius[/name_m] to me doesn’t feel overly [name_m]German[/name_m] to the point that it would negatively stand out in [name_f]England[/name_f], but I’m in the U.S. so I wouldn’t know for sure. Personally I really like [name_m]Mathis[/name_m], but always getting the correct pronunciation would be close to impossible. If I were you I would probably go with [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]. He’s been your favorite for years and, while I don’t know the entire sirname, goes just fine with the portion you mentioned above. You’ve got some great choices here, good luck choosing!
I agree with other berries about [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] sounds really nice. [name_f]My[/name_f] second choice would be [name_m]Georg[/name_m], followed by [name_m]Leon[/name_m]. [name_m]Leon[/name_m] has really been incredibly popular in Germany for years!! I personally prefer [name_m]Leo[/name_m] but I agree with you that [name_m]Leon[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] looks better as a full name. Good luck
P.S… I live in Germany and names like Luke or Miles are rarely heard here. Luke/Luc was ranked no. 105 in 2013 (although I have never met any child with that name). Luka/Luca however is very popular. Used mostly for boys (no. 2 in 2013) but also for girls (no. 461 in 2013). Miles isn´t even on the top 500. Milo however is no. 151.
I think since you love [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] I would go with it. It’s not really dated as it’s a biblical name and always comes back into popularity sooner or later. (I know a few [name_m]Daniels[/name_m] in all age ranges.)
When I look for names I really look for names that work well in [name_m]German[/name_m], English and Spanish (I’m 1st generation [name_m]German[/name_m]-American and my American fiancé spent half of his life split between Spain and [name_f]Argentina[/name_f]) - so finding a name that works for both the English and [name_m]German[/name_m] side of your baby’s family is going to be fun. I’d suggest also looking at names that are Ancient Germanic in origin - or in relation. Since both English and [name_m]German[/name_m] are Germanic languages you can probably find a few gems with that history to hit your sweet spot.
Suggestions that come to mind: [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], [name_m]Anselm[/name_m], Anzo, [name_m]Brando[/name_m], [name_m]Bruno[/name_m], [name_m]Erwin[/name_m], [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m], [name_m]Franco[/name_m],[name_m]Godfried[/name_m],/[name_m]Godfrey[/name_m], [name_m]Heinrich[/name_m]/[name_m]Hendrik[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Leon[/name_m] or [name_m]Leo[/name_m]), [name_m]Milo[/name_m] (instead of [name_m]Miles[/name_m] - works better in [name_m]German[/name_m] I think), [name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]/[name_m]Wolf[/name_m]… and there are many more.
