I’m not usually a fan of girl names with ‘son’ in them, but the iconic [name]Gibson[/name] Girl personified beauty, independence, personal fulfillment (she was depicted attending college in the early 1900’s), and American national prestige. What do you think? Can you picture a feminine little [name]Gibson[/name] [name]Grace[/name]? Siblings are [name]Beckett[/name] & [name]Phoebe[/name].
I thought of the [name]Gibson[/name] girl when I saw the title but if I met one I would probably assume they were named after the guitar.
[name]Guitar[/name] is so NOT what I’m going for
Sorry, I wouldn’t think [name]Gibson[/name] = girl, either. Since all my little siblings are into guitars, that was a first thought, and [name]Leroy[/name] [name]Jethro[/name] Gibbs, haha. I’m pretty sure that’s not what you’re going for either. I think [name]Gibson[/name] would be a cool choice for a boy in your sibset, though! [name]Beckett[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], and [name]Gibson[/name] is a pretty cool sibset.
Good luck!
I don’t hate it, I could grow to like it, I think… I love that she would have a very old-fashioned girly middle name because her name would be unisex and current!
I don’t like names ending with son on a girl. Sorry.
I don’t find the name to be attractive on a girl at all… and I like names like [name]Addison[/name], [name]Emerson[/name], etc. on girls too! maybe it’s the ‘gib’ part.
I think [name]Gibson[/name] is a good name for a girl, I know a little girl adopted from [name]Russia[/name] named [name]Gibson[/name] and I never thought it sounded boyish.
I would assume [name]Gibson[/name] was a boy (especially since your daughter has a very distinctly feminine name).
It makes me think of the cocktail.
My first thought was guitars as well.
Not a fan at all - does remind me of the guitar.
My maiden name. Also the [name]Gibson[/name] girl was named after the artist who was a man. There were s several girls, not one girl named [name]Gibson[/name]. Sorry i don’t think it works well at all
I love it. It’s one of the names we are seriously considering for a girl. There are lots of names that end in “son” that have been adopted for girls over the years. [name_u]Madison[/name_u], [name_u]Allison[/name_u], etc.
I would be very wary of naming my child after the [name_m]Gibson[/name_m] Girl(s). You’re naming her after a standard of beauty that was defined/drawn by a man and became heavily commercialized and a bit of a commodity, rather than a strong and honorable representation of women.
There is a lot of historical intrigue behind the name, but not all of it I find to be particularly positive or even relevant to being a strong woman. I know that the artist felt she was a composite depicting women of her time, but this isn’t particularly true – as can be seen by her style of clothing and dress and the scenes in which she’s depicted, she was an upper class woman and somewhat unattainable to the masses (both men and women) – not unlike a supermodel today.
I think if you want to honor a strong woman figure, the [name_m]Gibson[/name_m] Girl is not it. So, for me personally, this as a name for a little girl doesn’t have much going for it. Most people will think guitar or trendy surname-as-first-name/family name. In the end, there are much better names out there. The “gib” does nothing for the “son”, just focusing on the sound of it.
