I don’t think so, I don’t like it myself much but there’s nothing wrong with it. I like a few similar names like [name_m]Albert[/name_m], and [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] and [name_m]Bertram[/name_m]. You can use it to get to [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] which gives it bonus points in my book.
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] as grown on me over the years. I’m not usually a fan of “bert” names but I do have a soft spot for a few like [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] and [name_m]Lambert[/name_m]. [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] has a certain vintage charm to it so I don’t think you’re crazy. 
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] carries a certain outcast / nerdy quality for me. A previous poster mentioned [name_m]Lambert[/name_m], which I find much more handsome.
I love it It reminds me of [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] in [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables, which is a wonderful association. And [name_m]Gil[/name_m] is such a cute nn! It would be on my list if it didn’t sound weird with my last name.
This is one of my guilty pleasure names. Everyone thinks I’m crazy for liking it, so it’s refreshing to see someone else that loves it too!
