Randomly came across [name_f]Gilda[/name_f] today, and thought I’d post it for discussion.
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about it? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it, and would you use it??

[name_f]Gilda[/name_f] is quite interesting. It has a sharp and distinctive sound, it’s tough and adventurous and it has something of [name_f]Freda[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f] about it. I think i still prefer [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] but [name_f]Gilda[/name_f] might grow on me

It makes me think of [name_f]Gilda[/name_f] Radner. It’s a pretty spunky name and I like the meaning. It’s cool but I don’t think I would use it.

I think it’s cute! I could see it as a nn, for [name_f]Geraldine[/name_f] or [name_f]Gardenia[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Gilda[/name_f] sounds a bit more “fresh” than [name_f]Hilda[/name_f], but I still like [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] more.

I’m not a huge fan but it’s not bad, just not my style. I like some similar names like [name_f]Hedda[/name_f], [name_f]Ida[/name_f] and [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f], though.

To me it sounds very dated, though as a film buff I do the appreciate the association with [name_f]Rita[/name_f] Hayworth. As a side note, [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] has grown on me a lot recently because of the animated show.

Depends on how you pronouce it…Hard G [name_u]Gill[/name_u]-da is more American. Soft G [name_f]Jill[/name_f]-da is the traditional Italian pronounciation. She may be called by different names depending on who is saying it.

This isn’t on our list at all, it just caught my attention and thought it would make an interesting discussion. I agree that it’s quite dated, but there is some kind of flare to it (I feel anyway).

Interesting. I’ve only ever heard it with a hard G, and soft G sounds odd to me.
So interesting because I came across it yesterday! I like it! I like it’s meaning as well would you prefer [name_f]Gilda[/name_f] to [name_f]Glinda[/name_f]? I’ve always loved [name_f]Glinda[/name_f] the Good Witch and don’t think it’s a bad connotation at all?
