[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer Gill1an “Jill” or Jos3phine “Josie” more and why?
I know a lot of you will say Jos3phine, but I’m a massive fan of Gill1an and I keep coming back to it although Jos3phine makes more sense logically.
I’d really like advice on these two, thank you
Gill1an seems fresher to me, and I think you love her more, but they are both perfectly lovely names!
I much prefer sweet, spunky Gill1an (although I’d prefer [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] to Jillian)! Gill1an is just such a bright, melodic name, strong but sweet – and seeing all your posts about her has definitely made me love her more!
Honestly [name_f]Gillian[/name_f]! I do love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] too, but it isn’t underused like [name_f]Gillian[/name_f], and I prefer [name_f]Jill[/name_f] to [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. As long as you don’t also plan to have a son named [name_u]Jack[/name_u] later, go for it (My brother is [name_u]Jack[/name_u] and grandpa suggested I be named Jill).
I much prefer [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] to [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
For me it would be [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]!
I prefer [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] to [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but [name_u]Josie[/name_u] to [name_f]Jill[/name_f].
Wow I can’t believe your grandad suggested it!
Don’t worry, I definitely don’t plan on using [name_u]Jack[/name_u]
I prefer Gillian as a full name without the nickname Jill. I like the nickname Josie more than the full name Josephine. You love Gillian and Jill so absolutely go with what you love! To be honest though, Jill isn’t my style as a full name or a nickname. I feel like it would be more fun to use the name Gillian and choose a nickname that fits personality, even if it may be less intuitive to others. Go with whichever you love the most, if you follow your heart, you’ll never regret your choice! I would say I prefer Josephine nn. Josie because Josie is very bright, fun, and vintage. I prefer Gillian without the nickname Jill because I don’t hear Gillian often at all.
Good luck and congratulations, I hope this helps!
Thank you so much!
What other nicknames would you suggest for [name_f]Gillian[/name_f]?
I’m team [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] in every scenario I can imagine, so my vote’s hardly a help (or surprise) here. Though, I do think [name_f]Ily[/name_f], [name_f]Lally[/name_f], [name_u]Gillie[/name_u] (hard G), [name_m]Ian[/name_m], and [name_f]Nan[/name_f] are such cute nicknames one can get for [name_f]Gillian[/name_f].
I like the sounds of Gill!an best, but the look of J0sephi!ne more
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] because not wanting to be rude but [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] is not for me while I like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] so much
J0sephine is my favourite
She’s elegant, timeless, has sweet literacy connotations, feels romantic, I like the religious meaning and the nicknames [name_u]Jo[/name_u] & [name_u]Josie[/name_u] appeal to me more.
For you I prefer G1llian I love how much you love the name.
I LOVE the name [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]! The nickname is [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is so precious!
I’m stuck because I like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but I don’t like [name_u]Josie[/name_u] as a nickname. I like [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], but not [name_f]Gillian[/name_f], which I want to pronounce GIL-ee-ən.
@lilyofthevale [name_u]Lee[/name_u], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f]? [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_f]Lia[/name_f]!
[name_f]Gigi[/name_f] is a fun nickname for [name_f]Gillian[/name_f]! I also like [name_u]Gilly[/name_u] so much more than [name_f]Jill[/name_f].
I prefer Josephine! It is beautiful, timeless, elegant, accessible, familiar but not overused, and has a multitude of nickname options. I feel like Josephine is one of those nearly universally liked names. It’s almost like you can’t go wrong with it.
Something about Gillian gives me “dated” vibes (ugh, I hate using that word like it’s a dirty word because I love some “dated” names too). But, in the sense that it’s not quite ready for a general comeback yet, if that makes sense? It would make a slightly more distinct choice than Josephine, but to me it sounds like it’s in the same category as Deborah, Kathleen, Janice, Cheryl… which will probably come back around in 10-15 years, but not quite ready yet, if that makes sense. The Jillian spelling feels younger and fresher to me.
I think both are fine, though! And if Gillian speaks to you then you should listen!
I do prefer J0sephine, but you saying that you keep going back to Gilli@n would make me pick Gilli@n for you
