Surprisingly, I do not have a Russian heritage. I am a full-fledged “mutt” LOL. My mother studied Russian history in college, however, and fell in love with many of the names. One of the things that I love about how she named each of us is that we all have a story and a history that goes with our names. For example, I was named after Tzar [name]Nicholas[/name] II second daughter [name]Tatiana[/name], and my middle name [name]Nicolene[/name] was derived from her middle name as well. My mother was adopted and wanted to give each of us some kind of history with our names. I wish I could live up to her naming ability!
That’s really lovely. I understand the Russian connection now! Have you thought about using a Russian girl’s name? There are so many beautiful ones. I especially love [name]Valentina[/name] and [name]Anastasia[/name]. Perhaps they are a little flowery for your DH though!
Thank you! I have always loved my name and its history. It’s funny you should mention [name]Anastasia[/name] and [name]Valentina[/name]–[name]Anastasia[/name] was my “back up” name when I was a baby ([name]Tatiana[/name]'s sister :)) and [name]Valentina[/name] was originally on my list for this baby, though I am not feeling such a connection with it anymore. I really love the flowery names. I am just stumped with this baby! [name]Every[/name] time I think I have “the” name I start to doubt myself. I was really excited about [name]Lola[/name], but the excitement is waning with the reception people have to it. We’ll see what else crops up!
I think only you can know what the right name is - we all give our opinions to give you a range of views, but at the end of the day it’s not our baby, so don’t let it put you off if you really love the name. Lots of the names we love here (like [name]Beatrix[/name]) would take some getting used to by family and friends, I imagine. If you pick [name]Lola[/name], some people won’t get it, and others will, but once it’s attached to her and she fills it with her personality, they won’t be able to imagine her called anything else.
If I were you, I would get it down to a shortlist of three, and take that into the hospital with you, and then decide when you see your baby.
Good luck! I can’t wait to see what you end up going with!
