I am in terrible need of some help. My husband and I do not know what we are having, but have definite boy names chosen. My problem is, I seem to hate every girl name I see. I do not want it to be a name in the top 100 and would prefer it does not end in an “a”. My favourite name is [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]- however, that seems to have made its way up the top 100 list fast. I am looking for a traditional name, that is uncommon but not “out there”. I can sense that I am being too picky- but I also do not want to settle. I seem to have read over every name out there and just cannot see myself choosing any of them.
Any name suggestions you have might make me see a name in another light, or perhaps I just skimmed over it the first time. I appreciate ALL suggestions.
[name_u]Seren[/name_u], [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_u]Arden[/name_u], [name_u]Emery[/name_u], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], [name_f]Serena[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]/[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f]*, [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Brigid[/name_f], I know these all don’t match what you’re looking for, but [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] made me think of these, the names with asterisks end in a, which I know you don’t really like.
If your favorite name is [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and you can’t seem to find any other name you like, I think it might be good to consider accepting [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]'s popularity and using it even though it’s in the top 100. However, I did go ahead and round up some suggestions that aren’t in the top 100 (in the US as of 2015) and don’t end in A for you! I put stars next to the ones I like best.
I agree - if it’s [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] you love, use [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]! It’s not crazy popular, and it would be a shame to pass up on your favourite name just because of concerns about popularity. As I’m sure others will tell you, people are using a much wider range of names these days so even the very top names aren’t really overused now.
You’ve had some great suggestions already for alternatives so I’ll just add a couple: [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]. I think those have a similar sound and feel to [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] but are less popular - for now! You can’t predict what will rise/fall in popularity in the future so I really would urge you just to go with what you love best and not worry about it too much.
Use the name you love!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and comprehensive name lists! It definitely has made me reconsider some options, as well as keep [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] on the table. I at least have some “girl names” on the list- which is reassuring.
These are some of the ones getting a second look- or have made it onto the list:
