I’m completely exhausted and confused trying to name my baby girl due this [name_f]May[/name_f]. I feel like I’ve been trying to decide my entire pregnancy.
We have a son [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m] “[name_u]Nico[/name_u]” [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and if we have another boy we would name him [name_m]Oscar[/name_m].
Ideally, I would love to find a name that works in both English and Spanish as we have a double barreled last name of both back backgrounds. We are also part Greek and Italian. I realize finding a name that covers these ethnicities is nearly impossible and even if it did, we prob wouldn’t like it. [name_m]Just[/name_m] thought our heritage was worth mentioning. I should note, we are American living in the US.
I like classic names with a bit of an edgy/vintage feel. I’m in sustainable fashion and advocacy work while my husband is an engineer.
Our list includes the following:
*names with an asterisk are family names which could be nice to include but not totally necessary.
*[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]” or “[name_u]Josie[/name_u]” (my Grandfather was [name_m]Joseph[/name_m])
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
*[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] (my middle name and [name_f]Alejandra[/name_f] is a family name)
*[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] “[name_f]Bizzy[/name_f]” (my aunt’s name is [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f] but leaning towards the “ice” spelling bc I fear no one would spell it correctly with the “z” ending. My sons name is always misspelt as it is [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m] without the “H”).
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] (maybe too plain but love the literary association)
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
*[name_f]Zoe[/name_f] (my nieces name and nice meaning “life”)
*[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] “[name_u]Frankie[/name_u]” (my uncle’s name was [name_m]Frank[/name_m], another Uncle on other side of family [name_m]Francisco[/name_m] and my great grandfather was [name_m]Francisco[/name_m]. I’m also a fan of Pope [name_u]Francis[/name_u] lol)
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] “[name_u]Frankie[/name_u]” (see above. Was originally leaning towards [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] over [name_f]Frances[/name_f] but now leaning towards the more straightforward and less exotic [name_f]Frances[/name_f])
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
*[name_f]Sara[/name_f] “[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]” (best friend of over 15 years is [name_f]Sara[/name_f] and I have an Aunt [name_f]Sadie[/name_f])
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
Middle names options:
Would use any of above
OR
*[name_f]Constance[/name_f] (Mother in law’s name)
*[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] (Grandmother’s middle name was [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] but she changed to [name_f]Madeline[/name_f])
*[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] “[name_u]Lane[/name_u]” (sister in law’s name)
Thanks for the help!
[name_m]Will[/name_m] also note, my husband is [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] and goes by [name_u]Nic[/name_u] (we are not looking to keep the N theme going)
With [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m], I like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] best from your list and there are lots of good combos: [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], etc.
Since your son’s mn is [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], I probably would not use [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] as a fn (but maybe another mn?). [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Sofia[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], and [name_f]Sara[/name_f] are nice, but I do feel like they’re a little plain next to [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m]/[name_u]Nico[/name_u]. [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is a little close to [name_u]Nico[/name_u] so I probably would not use that. [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is okay.
Some other possibilities that might work for you:
[name_m]Nicolas[/name_m]/[name_u]Nico[/name_u] and
When we named our children it was also important for us that it work in both English and Spanish.
[name_f]Serafina[/name_f]- can use nickname [name_f]Sara[/name_f] or [name_f]Fia[/name_f] (fee-ah) Italian and Spanish
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]- Italian easy to say in Spanish
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]- my daughters name also is used in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] everyone loves it
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]- easy to say in Spanish, Greek, has the O like [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_f]Delfina[/name_f]
I personally wouldn’t use the name [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] as it’s too similar to your son’s middle name, [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. I really love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u] is incredibly beautiful and definitely my favourite combination.
Some other combinations that are nice: [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f].
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Nico[/name_u] & [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]! That name seems to have so many positive meanings for you. Wouldn’t do [name_f]Frances[/name_f], just a little too plain with [name_u]Nico[/name_u].
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is beautiful, but [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] is ultra-beautiful.
