We have last name that is 3 syllables, same as the famous general douglas “mac******”.Looking for name opinions on daughter due soon. Middle names are family names, which I want to stick with.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f]- is this name too popular, too difficult to pronounce? [name_m]Just[/name_m] found out there is a Disney princess TV show and her name is [name_f]Elena[/name_f], so would that be bad? I do not want her to be like an [name_f]Elsa[/name_f].
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]- I like names less than 2 syllables for ease of everyday use. I also like that this one seems good on an adult. But is it boring?
[name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] (or [name_f]Leila[/name_f]/[name_f]Laila[/name_f])- Really like this, but is it really that popular?! NB has it as #30? Also, which spelling is least confusing/easiest to pronounce?
[name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]- I like this, hubs is worried everyone will just think of [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m].
[name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]/[name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]- technically [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is the family middle, but I like sound of [name_f]Kate[/name_f] better.
Please give me feedback, as well as your favorite with my last name considered, since it is a long last name.
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] is stunning! It is so elegant and sophisticated! [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] is very nice too.
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] is beautiful and I don’t think it’s boring at all! [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] is also lovely and I’ve never met a [name_f]Layla[/name_f]!
Another vote for [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] and [name_f]Leila[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] (I like the [name_f]Leila[/name_f] spelling, but [name_f]Layla[/name_f] is also fine. [name_f]Laila[/name_f] I would pronounce as LIE-la).
I think all of your combos work really well, they just have different merits.
If you’re really worried about popularity, I’d either cross off [name_f]Layla[/name_f] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f] or move them to the middle. Keep in mind that [name_f]Layla[/name_f]'s multiple spellings mean it will feel even more popular than its ranking suggests (the same might be true for [name_f]Elena[/name_f] because of [name_f]Alaina[/name_f], etc.) They’re beautiful names, though, and both sound great with [name_m]Mac[/name_m]——. Maybe it would help to check the popularity stats for your particular area and see if they’re different?
If you’re concerned about the simplicity of [name_f]Eve[/name_f], there are lots of longer variations + the nickname [name_f]Evie[/name_f] that can make it more complex—I think there’s a thread on [name_f]Eve[/name_f]'s long forms floating around this forum at the moment. Alternatively, you could use [name_f]Eve[/name_f] but give it a bolder, more unusual middle than [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] (though [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] [name_m]Mac[/name_m]—— does sound great.)
When it comes to [name_f]Serena[/name_f], I don’t think the [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] thing should be a big deal. On the one hand, it feels like enough of a name in its own right that I don’t think [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] will be people’s one and only association—it’s not a one-person name like [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f] or [name_f]Oprah[/name_f]. On the other, she’s actually a pretty decent public figure to share a name with—it’s not like naming a kid OJ or [name_f]Isis[/name_f] or something.
If I had to pick a favorite from your list, I’d probably go with [name_f]Serena[/name_f]. If you’re open to mixing them up, [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_m]Mac[/name_m]—— also sounds pretty. But of course it’s up to you to decide which of the concerns you raised are dealbreakers and which aren’t! Best of luck narrowing down your options.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f]- I like this. I don’t think a Disney TV show will ever be as popular as a movie. I think of [name_f]Elena[/name_f] Kagan. I don’t know any little Elenas but I don’t know a ton of kids.
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]- I like it. [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] is a little boring but it still works. I do think [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is pretty popular as a nickname if you are concerned about that (I know an [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is popular).
[name_f]Leila[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] - I didn’t realize [name_f]Layla[/name_f] was so popular. I know one baby and one adult. It is also similar to [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] which are popular too so might blend in. I like [name_f]Francine[/name_f] in the middle better than [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Kate[/name_f] since it’s more unusual.
[name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]- I think of [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] but I like that this is a little more unusual than the other ones. There was also a [name_f]Serena[/name_f] on Gossip Girl, not sure if that is a plus or minus…
I love [name_f]Eve[/name_f]. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] is fine, but I prefer [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorena[/name_f] / Lorraina.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] is my favourite. It feels sophisticated and feminine without being frilly. [name_f]Leila[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] is lovely too and I haven’t met anyone with either name.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f]- I don’t think this is difficult to pronounce at all, but I don’t know where you are. At least in the Northeastern US I think people will be able to pronounce it just fine. I love [name_f]Elena[/name_f] & have since I was a kid (there’s a character in a book named [name_f]Elena[/name_f] & she’s a very positive character), & [name_f]Francine[/name_f] is unusual but not weird, & the two names flow nicely together as well as w/your last name.
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]- I’m not a fan of any of the [name_f]Eve[/name_f] names, so I’m not the best person to ask for input here. W/your last name, I prefer something w/two syllables or more, but that’s just my ear.
[name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] (or [name_f]Leila[/name_f]/[name_f]Laila[/name_f])- For me [name_f]Layla[/name_f] is pronounced just as it looks—[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-lah— while [name_f]Leila[/name_f] is [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-lah & [name_f]Laila[/name_f] is LAIL-ah. But I have the feeling that other people probably pronounce these names differently than I do. Of these three options, [name_f]Layla[/name_f] is my favorite.
[name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]- This is very pretty & I would not have automatically thought of [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m].
[name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]/[name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]- I like [name_f]Layla[/name_f] w/[name_f]Francine[/name_f] better.
Of your options, I like [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] the best; runner-up would be [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f], followed closely by [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]. Good luck!
My favorite is [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f]. Such a beautiful and classic name. I don’t think [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is difficult to pronounce in the slightest, and I’ve never heard of [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f].
You have some beautiful names here. My favorite 3 are: [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f], and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]. Overall I’d probably go with [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]. I don’t think it’s boring at all.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]. Not at all boring. Classic and sophisticated. My 2nd choice would be [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]. [name_f]Layla[/name_f] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f] are lovely too. I just think they are likely to have spelling confusions and they both are relatively common and there are various other common names similar to them so they kind of blend into the crowd to me.
LOVING [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] with your last name. I haven’t met any [name_f]Layla[/name_f]'s, but I think it depends on where you live. I personally prefer the [name_f]Layla[/name_f] spelling.
I really like all of the names you’re considering! [name_f]Eve[/name_f] best of all though, particularly with a longer last name. I wanted to use [name_f]Eve[/name_f] for our daughter, actually. But our last name starts with a vowel, and it just sort of squished together.
[name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] - I really love [name_f]Layla[/name_f], I think its sweet and spunky. I also think it goes so nicely with [name_f]Francine[/name_f] (despite not being a big fan of [name_f]Francine[/name_f])
I think [name_f]Layla[/name_f] would probably be easiest to pronounce, though I also love [name_f]Leila[/name_f] and [name_f]Laila[/name_f]. I dont think it’s a popular name, as I’ve never met one in real life!
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] - [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is so beautiful. I do think of [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f], but that’s because I have small children in my life who like her. I definitely dont think it’s as big as [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], and most people probably wouldn’t even think of (or know) the princess.
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] - [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is simple and sweet. I have a young cousin with this name, so shes made me love this name very much. I dont think its boring at all, but I do agree with other posters that there are lots of names you could use instead with [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as a nickname! [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is lovely though.
[name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] was the name of a dear aunt of mine, and I’ve always found it soft and beautiful. A perfect middle for [name_f]Eve[/name_f]!
[name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] - both names are very pretty, and I love love [name_f]Faye[/name_f]. I do think of [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] but shes a beautiful and strong association, so I dont see that as a problem. As another poster has said, it isnt like [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f] or [name_f]Oprah[/name_f], you could definitely use [name_f]Serena[/name_f] without people thinking of the celebrity.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] - I’ve heard of the show but I don’t think it’d be an issue, since [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is much more commonly used than a name like [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. I really like [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f]! I don’t think it’s too popular or too difficult to pronounce. I would assume you’d say it as “eh-[name_m]LEN[/name_m]-uh.”
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] - I’m personally not wild about [name_f]Eve[/name_f], because I do find it boring and a bit too religious. I prefer the other names on your list.
[name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] - I’ve only met one or two Laylas so I don’t find it too popular but maybe it is. I think [name_f]Layla[/name_f] is the most straightforward spelling for that pronunciation, so I’d stick with that. It’s a pretty name.
[name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]- I love this! I don’t think it’s THAT tied to [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m]. And she’s a great namesake anyway, so who cares? It actually reminds me more of [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] [name_f]Moon[/name_f], which is a fun connection in my mind. I like that it means serene. [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] looks and sounds lovely.
[name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]/[name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] as a middle because it sounds more balanced with [name_f]Layla[/name_f] in my opinion, but if you like the sound of [name_f]Kate[/name_f] better you should use that!
I like [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] and [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]. I think I prefer [name_f]Serena[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if people think of [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m], it isn’t a bad association.
