Look, my partner and I are expecting a set of twins and we are completely obsessed with the name [name_m]Achilles[/name_m]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though a lot of people disagree and think it’s ugly, we think it’s beautiful and we won’t give up. So our boy will be [name_m]Achilles[/name_m].
But we have no idea how to name the girl with a name that is as different and as powerful as [name_m]Achilles[/name_m]. We want something very impactful.
For now, we only like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] (not [name_u]Florence[/name_u], Flora) and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] (Because of Hamlet), but we’re not sure if it goes well together.
[name_m]Can[/name_m] you give your opinion? [name_u]Or[/name_u] suggest odd names?
I love both [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]! [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is my personal preference, but [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] “fits” better.
[name_m]Achilles[/name_m] is a wonderful, underused name! I’m delighted to see you’re planning to use it. I think [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] & [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] pair best of your options
In particular, I think [name_f]Atalanta[/name_f] is super cool. [name_f]Atalanta[/name_f] & [name_m]Achilles[/name_m]. [name_f]Atty[/name_f] & [name_u]Ace[/name_u]. [name_u]Or[/name_u] whatever nicknames you would use.
[name_m]Achille[/name_m] is pretty popular in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] and [name_u]France[/name_u] right now so I could see [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] working! Out of the two I could only see [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] working next to [name_m]Achilles[/name_m]. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] I don’t think does at all, it’s much more common and very soft and frilly next to Achillles (not a bad thing but it just doesn’t have the same umph that [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] has). Here’s some more suggestions!
[name_u]Welcome[/name_u] to NB! [name_u]Wonderful[/name_u] boy pick and congratulations on the twins!
Since [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] has a deeply historical/Greek/mythos root while also being sturdy and masculine, I will attempt to balance the same in a feminine name. In my opinion, the listed names don’t stand well when paired with [name_m]Achilles[/name_m].
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought would be [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] & [name_f]Idalia[/name_f] (deeply Greek meaning and roots, lovely meaning as well. Still feminine yet sturdy). These two together are wonderful!
Others:
[name_m]Achilles[/name_m] & [name_f]Athena[/name_f] (deeply Greek, sturdy meaning)
[name_m]Achilles[/name_m] & [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] (double L tie w/o being alliterative, deep mythos connections, lovely meaning as well)
[name_m]Achilles[/name_m] & [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] (not Greek but a great literature tie and a powerfully feminine meaning)
[name_m]Achilles[/name_m] & [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] (Greek mythos connection although her story isn’t the best but the name meaning is great!)
[name_m]Achilles[/name_m] & [name_f]Eostre[/name_f] (Norse myth but powerful and sound lovely together)
These I think complement [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] well in strength, vibe, & mythos/origin while still being quite feminine!
I like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], but neither feel as impactful as [name_m]Achilles[/name_m]. You need something strong. Like…
I like [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] - they are both beautiful and powerful names, and vibe wise, could fit with [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] (esp. Ophelia), but where I am, they are considerably more popular, if that bothers you.
Athena would sound cool with Achilles
Hestia is another Greek goddess
Sophia
Penelope
Arachne
Monroe
Diana
Sunniva
Nightingale
Phryne
Zenith
Minerva
Artemis
Persephone
Circe
Pandora
Juliet
Morgan
Titania
Both artsy and cool sets! [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] + [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] obviously more mythical/literary/symbolic while [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] & [name_f]Flora[/name_f] has a more posh [name_u]Brit[/name_u] vibe.
[name_f]My[/name_f] reservation with [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is that it’s a bit [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] and Ophilles to me - obv not an exact repeat but something off putting for me there. I also just prefer the name [name_f]Flora[/name_f] - though it doesn’t quite have the same level of pizzazz as [name_m]Achilles[/name_m].
How about:
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_f]Pandora[/name_f] (too much?!)
[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f]
[name_u]Phaedra[/name_u]
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Diantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (sane issue as with [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] but less obvious to me)
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] “Posy”
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] “Pippa”
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Thessaly[/name_f]
[name_f]Sabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonore[/name_f] /a
[name_f]Ursula[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucette[/name_f]
[name_f]Astoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Solara[/name_f] /Solaris
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Pomeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Celestine[/name_u]
From your own list I like [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], but my fave combo would be [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] and [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]. I just think they sound amazing together.
