Hi,
We are all over the place choosing a girls name. We love isla but my husband being italian it will have the s pronounced in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] until we correct them… so we thought [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] but now understand this is a different name entirely (still lovely).
I would have liked [name_f]Iona[/name_f] but it’s awful in italian. So we have:
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Ilaria[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariana[/name_f]
Thoughts… my love is isla but don’t want her to have problems…advice appreciated.
Could [name_f]Isla[/name_f] be used as a middle name? [name_m]Just[/name_m] as an example: [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Ilaria[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] are gorgeous but wouldn’t work with [name_f]Isla[/name_f] as a middle name (if you wanted to use it as a middle)
Are you looking for Italian names or names that can be translated into Italian or both? I think I would be able to help you easily if I knew more of what you are looking for exactly. Here are some suggestions you may like:
[name_f]Rosaria[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Alessia[/name_f]
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Chiara[/name_f]
[name_f]Liliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Luciana[/name_f]
[name_f]Elda[/name_f]
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Carmela[/name_f]
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Valeria[/name_f]
This is super kind of you.
I’m scottish and we would love a scottish name but so many don’t work in italian. I find italian names quite heavy and repetitive so we have always looked at anglo names.
[name_m]Innes[/name_m] was another one I forgot to add to the list.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] could work as a middle name but I’d like [name_f]Helen[/name_f] regardless of what it is in honour of my late mum. Thanks for reply.
I understand. I know you said you want to use [name_f]Helen[/name_f] as a middle name but could you maybe use [name_f]Helena[/name_f] or [name_f]Helen[/name_f]/Helene as the first name? It is translated into Italian easily and if you like nicknames you could use [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Leni[/name_f]. It also isn’t too out there and quite easy to say. I don’t know much about Scottish or Anglo names but [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] may be a nice option for you, it is Italian though. I think it may be a variation of [name_f]Helen[/name_f] but [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] works in Italian as well. Not sure if it is your style but [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] also works. [name_f]May[/name_f] be too popular but maybe [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]? It is a version of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. If you like flower names, maybe [name_f]Viola[/name_f] or [name_f]Violetta[/name_f]? There is also a lot of variations of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] that work well. I know you aren’t a huge fan of Italian names but [name_f]Annalisa[/name_f] is another option or [name_f]Katerina[/name_f]. [name_f]Amadea[/name_f] is also pretty. [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] or [name_f]Sara[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are a few more options. [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] work if you like those.
Sorry if this is a bit long, I don’t want to overwhelm you with names, I just want to give you some options you may not have considered x
Some names that take inspiration from [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] or [name_f]Italy[/name_f] or both:
[name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_u]Skye[/name_u], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_u]Adair[/name_u], [name_f]Aila[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], [name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Fia[/name_f] (has a Scottish and Italian meaning), [name_f]Mhairi[/name_f]/Mhari, [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Morag[/name_f], [name_m]Ramsay[/name_m], McKenzie, [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f], [name_f]Heather[/name_f], [name_f]Maddie[/name_f].
Also, I don’t think [name_f]Isla[/name_f] will be too much of an issue because your family will only need telling once and [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] is a lovely alternative.
I hope you don’t mind that I add to your list. [name_f]Florence[/name_f] or [name_f]Flora[/name_f] can work. I searched some Scottish girl names and looks like Aileana works though I am unsure if the pronunciation is the same. [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], [name_f]Catriona[/name_f], [name_f]Davina[/name_f], [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] all seem to translate well but I am unsure about pronunciation. Also, [name_f]Laura[/name_f] works as well, it is Greek but looks like it is used in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f].
[name_f]Ilaria[/name_f] snd [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] sounds nice! [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Florence[/name_f]? That’s a city in italy and works well as an [name_f]English[/name_f] name too?
[name_f]Bria[/name_f] ?
[name_f]Izabella[/name_f] ?
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f] ?
Maybe you could call her [name_f]Italy[/name_f] or [name_f]Italia[/name_f], Italiana ?
