Girl name to go with sibling, Charlotte.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,

My husband and I are expecting our second daughter in [name_f]May[/name_f]. We are trying to settle on a name and so far, have agreed on the name [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (possible nn. “[name_f]Essie[/name_f]”). We have a common last name and hope to use a pretty, feminine, uncommon-but-not-far-fetched name. We have looked at older generation names due for revival and so far have really only liked this one. What are your thoughts on the name? I just want to gauge the general reaction. Thanks!

[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is very pretty and definitely has that vintagey feel. [name_f]Essie[/name_f] would be an adorable nickname!

[name_f]Esther[/name_f] is too old for me personally and the sound doesn’t really appeal to me, but I think that [name_f]Essie[/name_f] is really cute.

I really like both [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] but I think they make a bit of a stuffy pair unfortunately

(edited to add that Essie is also a brand of nail polish, though a cute nn)

I have thought that the middle name would have to sound less “old” as well. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any suggestions?

What about [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]?

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Esther[/name_f]!

[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Essie[/name_f] is a great nn.

Some more possibilities:

[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_u]Damaris[/name_u]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is pretty, and I obviously love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] as it is our first daughters name, so don’t think I could use it as a middle name for our second! Thanks for the suggestions though!

Whoops- I meant to say [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] (same meaning as [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]- [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] has the same meaning as [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]). Slip of the brain!

I actually adore the nickname [name_f]Essie[/name_f] so I’m trying hard to get behind [name_f]Esther[/name_f], but I just am not convinced it’s quite ready for revival yet. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is also a bit more feminine than [name_f]Esther[/name_f] is in my opinion. Whereas [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is more lacey, I feel [name_f]Esther[/name_f] is too plain. The middle name [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is perfect actually, I would make the name ______ [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] for sure.

Here are some other vintage names that might work with the nickname [name_f]Essie[/name_f]. The only thing to consider (because it bothers some people and doesn’t bother others) is that these names are significantly shorter than [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] nn [name_f]Essie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Essie[/name_f]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] nn [name_f]Essie[/name_f]

Here are some other vintage names that might be ready for a comeback:

I have no suggestion, I love [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].

I don’t care for the combination, I have a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and a [name_f]Leila[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]? [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] for short ? I think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] sounds cute

[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is beautiful! Two thumbs up!

I think [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is pretty. It is a little old fashioned but I think that gives it an elegance and charm. It reminds me of the name [name_f]Bathsheba[/name_f] from the bucolic Far From the Madding Crowd. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is frilly, and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] isn’t really, so something like [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] might be a better match for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] in that way.

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f]
