The name you give your baby boy will almost certainly be the same his whole life, so once you find a name with good flow, you’re pretty much set.
Girls on the other hand are most likely going to trade their father’s name in for their husband’s one day.
Could I get some suggesstions of names that are long, classic, feminine, tailored, and would work well with almost any last name imaginable? The only name that I can think of that fits those criteria is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but alas, I don’t plan on naming my daughter the same as my mother named me.
I don’t think they are a ton of names out there that sound perfect with any name; [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] could grow up to be [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_m]Nesbit[/name_m] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Elias[/name_u] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] Barefoot or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] Thermopolous or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] Worst! None of those last names are bad, maybe not even the worst (pun intended), but I think you’ll agree that the flow leaves something to be desired. However, there’s really not much you can do.
So I wouldn’t worry too much about it, given the fact that even the “safest” names aren’t truly safe!
I think the most important thing is finding a name that works with the last name your daughter will have for at least 18 years or more of her life.
Your daughter may get married, she might change her name, she might keep her name; she might not even choose to get married. There’s also a possibility that her and her future spouse will want to create/choose an entirely new last name in order to symbolize their union. These days, there are plenty of options for women when it comes to names and matrimony.
I don’t think there’s any way of telling that a name would work with most names… but longer names are good as they often have a lot of nickname potential. These aren’t all classic but going for longer, more tailored…
I think [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] are the traditional everynames. They have so many nicknames that they can work with any last name. I think some other names like [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] might work the same way with [name_u]Gabby[/name_u] or [name_f]Bri[/name_f] or [name_f]Ella[/name_f] fitting with whatever last name comes up.
