Girl names that were popular at Colonial time

So guys do you know any girl names from Colonial Time?

Thanks in advance!

If I remember correctly, Puritan and Biblical (especially Old Testament) names were popular during that time period, so virtue names of all sorts and classic/old fashion names would have been the norm.

Names I find interesting
Resolved
[name]Remember[/name](love this)
Desire
Deliverance
[name]Prudence[/name]
[name]Patience[/name]

[name]Do[/name] any of this is usable?
I guess I love virtue names

I love a lot of Colonial names(biased, I know). [name]Primrose[/name] was on my short list.
I also like [name]Prudence[/name] nn [name]Pru[/name], as in Charmed and [name]Patience[/name]. I think [name]Remember[/name] is usable too but think about the conversation: “Hey, what’s your name?” “[name]Remember[/name]”. Sounds funny, like she wants everybody not to forget her name but actually that’s not a huge problem. You can always use it in the middle name slot.
And from virtue names I also like [name]Constance[/name] and [name]Vera/name.

The only one I would caution you against is Deliverance. It’s nice in theory, but the movie connotation is just too much. I wouldn’t go there.

I very much like [name]Patience[/name] and [name]Constance[/name]. Two of my favorite combos are [name]May[/name] [name]Constance[/name] and [name]June[/name] [name]Patience[/name]!

thanks
i love [name]Prudence[/name] and Charmed(first time i heard it).i dont either like Deliverance and i like [name]Patience[/name] but i hate the nn [name]Patty[/name]
but i just adore [name]Remember[/name] with the nn [name]Remy[/name] or [name]Ember[/name]

I was thinking putting [name]Prudence[/name] as a middle name for [name]Amabel[/name] or [name]Annabel[/name] /[name]Annabelle[/name]
I was thinking [name]Amabel[/name] [name]Prudence[/name] [name]Lux[/name] or [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Prudence[/name] [name]Lux[/name]

What do you think?

I think you could reasonably use [name]Prudence[/name] or [name]Patience[/name] nowadays. I would definitely avoid Desire and Deliverance. There are cute nn possibilities, but I would avoid [name]Remember[/name], too, sorry. Maybe Rememberance? I mean for an actual human. [name]How[/name] about [name]Amity[/name], [name]Mercy[/name], [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Noble[/name], [name]Merry[/name], [name]Temperance[/name], Solace, [name]Sojourner[/name], [name]Clemency[/name], [name]Verity[/name], [name]Liberty[/name], or even Redeemed? My favorites are Hopestill and Makepeace, though I don’t know that I would use them. Possibly as middle names?

Thanks!
I really like [name]Temperance[/name],Redeemed and Hopestill!
[name]Do[/name] you consider [name]Temperance[/name] as a old ladies name?
Also do you know any cute nn ?

What do you think of [name]Silence[/name]?

I actually find [name]Temperance[/name] quite youthful and upper-class sounding. Nicknames could be Tem, Temmy, Teppy, Tempy, [name]Perry[/name], [name]Penny[/name], Rancy, [name]Rance[/name], [name]Cece[/name], Pera, [name]Anne[/name].

I’m not super fond of [name]Silence[/name], but I do like Solace.

Thanks
I really like Tempy and [name]Perry[/name]!

@bellerose,

I don’t think that I would name an actual person [name]Silence[/name]. Much like the name [name]Remember[/name], think of the introductions:

“[name]Hi[/name], what’s your name?”
“[name]Silence[/name].”
“Um, I just wanted to know your name, sheesh.”

You might like the name [name]Selah[/name]- it is a word used to describe a musical pause in Psalms. So you could have a similar meaning without ending up yelling, “[name]Silence[/name]! [name]Silence[/name]!” at the park.

our dd is named [name]Remember[/name], and we love it! it’s unusual, but everyone can spell it and it has a history (one of the little girl passengers on the mayflower was named remember). so far, that’s what we call her, but many nn possibilities. mem, memi, remy, etc. and we’ve never thought of ember! sweet! we’ll see what she takes to.

I love temperance too, but check the popularity of that one (if that matters to you). it’s experienced a spike lately bc of the show “bones” in which the lead is named temperance.

I love [name]Remember[/name]… esp with the nn [name]Ember[/name]. [name]Just[/name] darling. For what it’s worth I knew a pastor’s wife whose name was [name]Purity[/name]. She was very sweet and it fit her nicely.

OMG i cant believe you have a daughter named [name]Remember[/name] !that is by far my favorite virtue name .iam so jealous right now
[name]Remember[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Jojephine is really adorable

@wintersage i never thought of [name]Purity[/name] !its really sweet

thanks!

you are more than welcome to it! i can’t imagine [name]Remember[/name] will ever hit the top 1000. although hold off a bit- I see you’re only 16! ( :
