I’m not a big fan of nicknames. My kids are named [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Claire[/name]. We are pregnant with a baby girl and I’m looking for ideas.
Here’s a little background… My husband and I grew up together. His name is [name]Philip[/name] and his mother would literally yell at anyone she heard call him [name]Phil[/name]. I don’t know how many times I heard her say, “I didn’t name him [name]Philip[/name] for you to call him [name]Phil[/name]!!”. I do NOT want to be that mom. (It’s funny that now, as an adult, he almost exclusively goes by [name]Phil[/name])
I love [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Anna[/name] but we can’t use [name]Anna[/name].
I’ve had good feedback on [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] so it is definitely on our list but so far it is the only one.
I like [name]Ivy[/name], it sounds beautiful when grouped with [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Jack[/name] since it has two syllables. Alternatively maybe you could use [name]Ava[/name], [name]Isla[/name], [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Cora[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], or [name]Violet[/name]? I particularly like [name]Lucy[/name] or [name]Hazel[/name]. Good luck : )
[name]Ivy[/name], [name]Anya[/name], [name]Nina[/name], [name]Norah[/name], [name]Amy[/name]/[name]Aimee[/name], [name]Eve[/name], [name]Faye[/name], [name]Faith[/name], [name]Holly[/name], [name]Heidi[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Ida[/name], [name]Ada[/name], [name]Ina[/name], [name]Polly[/name], [name]Nell[/name], [name]Sara[/name], [name]Tara[/name], [name]Cara[/name]/[name]Kara[/name], [name]Helen[/name], [name]Lana[/name], [name]Kira[/name]…
But I come from a family that can nickname any name at all- even if they just end up calling someone by a first initial or a sound randomly chosen from somewhere in the name!
[name]Claire[/name], [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Claire[/name], [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Claire[/name], [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Faye[/name]
[name]Claire[/name], [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Lois[/name]
I love [name]Tess[/name] or [name]Tessa[/name]. Also like the suggestions of [name]Sara[/name] and [name]Kate[/name]. My sister’s name is [name]Lauren[/name] and she never had a nn. Also there’s [name]Paige[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Leah[/name], [name]Grace[/name]. I really like all these names I’m listing for you! I love simple. I like your [name]Ivy[/name] combo too. I guess if there is a nn you like, you could also just use that as the official name, like [name]Maggie[/name] or [name]Maisie[/name] for instance.
I know a mom with a [name]Claire[/name] and a [name]Helen[/name]. Not sure that’s your style, but she seems to be a no-nickname kind of mom, too, so I thought I’d throw it out there.
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Anneliese[/name] is my favorite, but I do like your idea of [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] too…
[name]Rachel[/name] - my daughters name and she never had a nn… always [name]Rachel[/name]
[name]Hope[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Margo[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Colleen[/name]
[name]Adrienne[/name]
all over the place, but just what came to my mind:-)
I really like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]! I think that’s a great choice for what you are looking for and goes well with your other kids’ names.
Some other suggestions are:
I see [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f] that posters proposed as being shortened to [name_f]Vi[/name_f], Scar and [name_f]Em[/name_f]/[name_f]Emmy[/name_f]. I also really like the suggestion of [name_u]Quinn[/name_u].
I realize that not all of these are 1 syllable like your other children’s names but I see these all as names that have no natural or apparent nickname. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!
Also I would second [name_f]Molly[/name_f], but as a [name_f]Molly[/name_f] I have been called [name_f]Moll[/name_f], Molls, and [name_u]Mo[/name_u] but only on occasion, so not entirely nickname proof
