Girl Names You Love But You Probably Won't Use For A Reason

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries! So what are some names you love but you know you probably won’t be using, and why.

[name_f]Nadia[/name_f]- bc SO isn’t a fan of Russian names…

[name_m]Koda[/name_m]- bc people would think it’s too masculine
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]- A guilty pleasure of mine and it’s bc I love the nn [name_f]Aggie[/name_f], don’t judge.

[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]- have no meaningful connections to the place.
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f]- same as [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]

I loooooooove [name_f]Ida[/name_f]. I find it to be classic sounding, maybe a little old fashioned but not out of date or dated at all. I think it would fit right in with all the [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]’s, etc. running around. I too love [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] but have no meaningful connection to the state, although I don’t think you need one to use the name.
names I like but won’t use;

[name_f]Esperanza[/name_f]: too similar to our last name. It would literally almost sound like [name_f]Esperanza[/name_f] [name_f]Esperanza[/name_f]

[name_f]Irie[/name_f] (eye-ree) : DH veto :frowning:

[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]: name of a town very close to ours, if we stay in this area it might sound strange to people.

[name_f]Persephone[/name_f]: friends hate it, not enough to stop me from using it but does make me feel less thrilled. I love the nn’s Persa, [name_u]Percy[/name_u] and Sephy

[name_f]Cressida[/name_f], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Leandra[/name_f], [name_f]Kaia[/name_f], [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] - because i have characters with these names

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - my cousin’s name

[name_f]Luella[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Adelia[/name_f], [name_f]Talullah[/name_f] as first names - too similar to family members

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - same as [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - I love this name. But a little girl I met through church is named [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and I feel it’s too close.

[name_f]Della[/name_f] - too close to my sister’s name

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - too popular

[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] - love the name but dislike [name_f]Viv[/name_f]

[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] - a close friend’s name

[name_f]Julia[/name_f] - my mother’s name is [name_u]Julie[/name_u] but I might not mind that connection…

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - so pretty but a bad connection that my sister and I probably won’t forget.

[name_f]Louise[/name_f] - my cousin’s name

[name_f]Katie[/name_f] - my cousin’s nickname

[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] - love but bad connection.

[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] - love but I think I like [name_f]Evie[/name_f] more.

[name_u]Harper[/name_u] - same as [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]

[name_f]Zoe[/name_f] - I have two friends by this name

[name_f]Nora[/name_f] - I absolutely love!! …but so does my sister…

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - the only nickname I love it [name_f]Nora[/name_f]

[name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f] - my name [name_f]Grace[/name_f] so no

[name_f]Nova[/name_f] & [name_f]Nola[/name_f] - too close to [name_f]Nora[/name_f]?

[name_f]Senna[/name_f] & [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] but think these two names are too close

Alderose - think it might seem too made up, but love the two names merged together. It’s taken from Victorian names list.

[name_f]Electra[/name_f] - The connection to carmen [name_f]Electra[/name_f] makes it feel unusable but love the strong feel.

[name_f]Diana[/name_f] - beautiful name but feels too linked to princess [name_f]Dianna[/name_f].

[name_f]Cherry[/name_f] - Really cute to me but people instantly relate it to losing your virginity.

[name_f]Emerald[/name_f] - might seem too out there but love the sound of emerald.

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - always love this name but not the link to the Disney princess.

[name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]: too popular.
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]: now ruined by a bad association.

[name_f]Lolita[/name_f] - Bad connotations
[name_f]Mimosa[/name_f] - Alcohol associations
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] - I loved this name when I was younger but nowadays I would get tired of people bringing up Disney.
[name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs - Very few people where I live speak [name_m]French[/name_m] and I would get sick of explaining how it’s supposed to be pronounced.

[name_f]Lilith[/name_f]-religious family would freak but it’s so gorgeous!

[name_f]Anouk[/name_f]- probably wouldn’t use it, just very unfamiliar where I’m from

[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]- maybe as a middle, but hunger games ruined this

[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- so overused on nameberry

[name_f]Ada[/name_f]-I love [name_u]Asa[/name_u] for a boy too much

Aw, I think that you should hold on to [name_f]Ida[/name_f]!

I’ve got a few…

[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]-I love it, & have for years but every other young child I meet is [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]. And I don’t even really care for [name_f]Addie[/name_f] that much.

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]-My dh super hates this for some reason.

[name_f]Greta[/name_f]-I would maybe still use this, but I feel like it’s going to get way popular because of that climate change advocate teenager…I mainly like this for the nn [name_f]Gerty[/name_f], which I may just use on its own.

[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]-My mom named her cat this. I’m not too salty about it though, because it’s a name that we fell in love w/together watching the gymnast named [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] in the 96 Olympics.

[name_f]Livy[/name_f]-I don’t think that this is substantial enough for a full name. I like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] & [name_f]Olive[/name_f], but just not enough.

Any version of [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] - one was an ex, the other stole a friend

[name_f]Amma[/name_f] - that’s what I’ve grown up calling my mom

I have a lot, so I’ll only list some.

[name_u]Lennox[/name_u]- [name_u]Love[/name_u] this for a girl, but I wrote a story with the main character having this name, so I can’t use it
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f]- not good with last name
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]- not brave enough to use and doesn’t work with last name
[name_f]Brynn[/name_f]- doesn’t work with last name, and also the same as the first one too

I love but can’t use…

[name_f]Lauren[/name_f] - this is the name of someone who…I won’t go into detail about what she did to me. But I can’t think of the name without having nightmares.

[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] - this is my cousin’s name.

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] - I have a friend by this name, but I’m not super close to her, so I don’t know how I feel about naming a child this.

[name_f]Megan[/name_f] (or alternate spellings) - another cousin’s name

[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] (or alternate spellings) - I know far too many Madelines/Madelyns for this to be an option.

[name_f]Christine[/name_f] - The name of the “ghost” that haunts my local theatre. I don’t really believe in ghosts, but I also don’t want to use a name that has creepy personal connection to it.

[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] (or alternate spellings) - this is my cat’s name and I will probably always see it as that.

[name_f]Rosanne[/name_f] - this is my aunt’s name.

[name_f]Kalypso[/name_f] - I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this one with all my heart, but it’s a too “out-there” for me to use on a child.

[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] - same as [name_f]Kalypso[/name_f], too “out-there”.

[name_f]Kimber[/name_f]/[name_u]Kimberly[/name_u]/[name_f]Kimberlyn[/name_f] - I have known several [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u]'s (or girls with similar sounding names) throughout my life and they were all kinda jerks (sorry to any [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u]'s out there!)

[name_u]Piper[/name_u] - I have a fairly close friend by this name, but like with [name_f]Mia[/name_f], I don’t think I would name a child the same thing.

[name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] (or alternate spellings) - my cousin was going to name her baby this but decided not to. I like the name itself, but I can’t see myself using it for a child of my own.

[name_f]Erin[/name_f] - the name of my cousin who was a miscarriage long before I was born.

[name_u]Jessie[/name_u] - reminds me too much of Cowgirl [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] from [name_m]Toy[/name_m] [name_u]Story[/name_u] (not that I don’t like Cowgirl [name_u]Jessie[/name_u], but I don’t want that to be the first thing I think of when I hear the name).

[name_f]Kaylee[/name_f] - I know a [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f] who is like family to me, so naming my child [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f] would be like having 2 [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f]'s in the same family.

[name_f]Lola[/name_f] - does this sound too much like a stripper name? I don’t know. I think it’s perfect for a little girl, but don’t know how well it will age with her and I’d hate for people to only view it as a stripper name.

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - SO OVERUSED!!! I’m hoping the hype will settle down in a few years, but with it being such a pretty name, I don’t know if that will ever happen!

[name_f]Isobella[/name_f] - The [name_f]Isobella[/name_f] spelling appeals to me more than the original because it’s different, but again, a VERY overused name, no matter how you spell it.

[name_f]Bella[/name_f] - It’s pretty, but there are multiple reasons why I can’t use it. It’s always seemed like more of a dog name than a girl’s name to me. I knew an older girl named [name_f]Bella[/name_f] for a while who wasn’t very nice to me, so the name reminds me of her. Also, does anyone remember the [name_f]Bella[/name_f] [name_m]Bond[/name_m] case from several years back? So scary and sad! I don’t want to be reminded of that, either.

There are multiple other names I could list here, but I don’t want to waste anyone’s time reading.

[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]- the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] connection is too strong
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] - people would constantly call her [name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]- my name, so a no
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]- too many people really hate it
Catesby- [name_m]Robert[/name_m] Catesby was the leader of the Gunpowder Plot and this is a lot of people’s only association
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f]- negative associations for me personally
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]- I love it, but it’s too Disney [name_f]Princess[/name_f]
[name_u]True[/name_u]- the Kardashian konnection is too strong

[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] - It just doesn’t work in my country

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - Same reason as above, besides it sounds too similar to my name

[name_f]Saga[/name_f] - Someone I know is named that, and many people I know also know her

[name_u]Alva[/name_u] - Too popular in my country

[name_f]Ayla[/name_f] - The family dog was named this

Gyda - Too many in the family has this name

Live - Too popular (pronounced [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-veh)

[name_f]Esther[/name_f] - This was my great grandmothers name, I know there are many other in the family that wants to use this name

There are probably many other names that I love but can’t use, especially guilty pleasure names, but these were the ones that first came to mind right now

Edit: I remembered that I’ve always loved Octavia, but here no one sees it as a name. It is too tied to the car

[name_f]October[/name_f] - I adore it, and think it’s so sweet, refreshing and unique… but I still think it’s too out there. If I was named [name_f]October[/name_f] I would still love it, but I know lots of other people wouldn’t and I would be too worried that she would feel self-conscious.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - I love this name so much… but it’s super trendy at the moment! I have a really unique name (so do my sisters) and I would like my children to not have super common names - then again, I’m nowhere near thinking about getting pregnant, I’m just a name-aholic!

[name_f]Azaria[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] anyways, but even if I didn’t, I couldn’t use [name_f]Azaria[/name_f]; I live in Australia, and the shocking tragedy of [name_f]Azaria[/name_f] Chamberlain is still quite fresh in everyone’s minds - even if it was decades ago.

[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] - I love everything about this name, and yes, I do adore [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_m]Granger[/name_m]! I don’t think it’s a bad connotation at all; she’s an incredibly empowering female character (even though I know some people don’t like her, each to their own!). I wouldn’t mind fielding questions about the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] reference, but if she didn’t like [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], this could be a potential issue for her growing up! I mean, let’s face it; [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] won’t just ‘die down.’ It’s a record-breaking series that changed the way we look at fantasy novels forever.

[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. She’s just too common and boring now.

[name_f]Griselda[/name_f]. I wouldn’t slap this clunker on anyone but that doesn’t stop me from finding it enchantingly adorable.

[name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Annie[/name_f]- my mom has a dog named [name_f]Annie[/name_f] :sob:

[name_f]Evadne[/name_f] because it feels like very little one I meet these days is some kind of Ev- name.

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] because noone in my family can pronounce them.

[name_f]Indira[/name_f] because it feels a little close to [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] with the Ond and Ind beginnings. I also call [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] ‘Ondie’ sometimes and I’d also be inclined to call an [name_f]Indira[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Indie[/name_f]’.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - one of my ultimate favorites, but it’s so popular, and it’s too close to my niece [name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s name.

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] - love it, but my other niece is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (was lowkey heartbroken when they named her, whoops)

[name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], anything that shortens to [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Belle[/name_f], etc, because of popularity.

[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] with nn [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], my niece [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is called [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], again, lowkey heartbroken.

GPs like [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Minerva[/name_f], etc, because I feel like they’d be too ‘out there’.

[name_f]Millicent[/name_f], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], other clunky old lady names that I like people would mock.

Unfortunately, the lovely little [name_f]Isis[/name_f], for obvious reasons…
