I’ve posted earlier, I apologize for starting a new thread ! We have a son named [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] and are expecting boy/girl twins this summer. My husband is very set on naming the boy [name_m]William[/name_m] (his name, a family name) and he will go by “[name_m]Will[/name_m]” as a child ([name_m]Liam[/name_m] is overly trendy in my city right now). I love unique names, but I feel like with “[name_m]William[/name_m]” as a twin brother, her name cannot be overly foreign/unique/unusual. We both prefer to avoid trendy names, but are fine with using “classic” names. [name_u]Jann[/name_u] is DH’s deceased mother’s name and must be the mn. [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] is an important family name on my side and will be used for the boy’s mn. Please give me your thoughts on these names. If you hate them all that’s great feedback, too!
[name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u]
[name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u]
[name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u]
[name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u]
[name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u]
[name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u] - love this, it goes really well with [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_m]Pierce[/name_m], it balances them nicely as it is a bit quirkier like [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] but also has a vintage vibe that fits really nicely with the classic [name_m]William[/name_m]; plus I like that [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] share a central ‘L’
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u] - oh, this is close to pefection! [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is just the right amount of serious and classic to pair with [name_m]William[/name_m]; it is a little bit similar to [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] though.
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u]- I like [name_f]Cora[/name_f], but it feels trendier to me than the other names on your list. Still beautiful though, and sounds nice as a twin to [name_m]William[/name_m]; does sound a bit off with the middle name but not unusable.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u]- I prefer this to [name_f]Cora[/name_f] for you, it has that great vintage classic charm to it. It’s familiar but not overused and it is pretty but also serious; would age well. A great fit!
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u]- I love the name [name_f]Lila[/name_f]! That being said, I don’t particularly love it as a twin for [name_m]William[/name_m]. What if when [name_m]William[/name_m] starts school he decides he wants to be solely known as [name_m]Liam[/name_m]? [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] are pretty matchy… but maybe that doesn’t bother you? If it’s not a concern for you, then I think [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is lovely.
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u]- [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is nice but it doesn’t seem as classic as [name_m]William[/name_m], to me (and this is just opinion not fact), [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] seems very modern. I do think it’s a pretty name but I don’t know if it’s the vibe you are going for.
Thank you so much for the feedback. I hadn’t thought of him possibly wanting to go by [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and we do prefer to avoid “matchy” name for twins, so that is definitely a good reason to avoid [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. I also hadn’t really considered how [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] does have a more “modern” sound to it compared to [name_m]Willam[/name_m] and might seem off. Thanks again!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], such an underused beauty. [name_f]Do[/name_f] people avoid it because of the rhyming molest??
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] is my second although I wonder if it seems nickname-y next to [name_m]William[/name_m] - does it seem like she should be [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] called [name_f]Elise[/name_f]?
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] are too modern. [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is too common for me but it really is a beautiful name and a good fit with [name_m]William[/name_m]. I see you might already have decided to avoid [name_f]Lila[/name_f]; I would agree.
I might suggest:
[name_f]Camille[/name_f] (similar to [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] but no unfortunate rhyme) [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (not quite as timeless as [name_m]William[/name_m] but certainly classic!) [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] (even better than [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], [name_f]Camille[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]!)
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] ([name_m]Will[/name_m] and [name_f]Annie[/name_f]?! adorable!)
From your list, I adore [name_f]Clara[/name_f] with [name_m]William[/name_m]/[name_m]Will[/name_m]!
I’d also suggest:
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (classic but under appreciated in my opinion)
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
Anyway you could convince hubby to use [name_m]William[/name_m] as the middle instead? eg [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m]… then you’d have lots of freedom to choose a more unique name!
But if set in stone, you have very nice names to choose from. My favorite combo is [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u]. It is less classic, yes, but I think [name_m]Pierce[/name_m], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], and [name_m]Will[/name_m] sound great together. (I doubt that a child called [name_m]Will[/name_m] from birth would change his name to [name_m]Liam[/name_m] in school, but ya never know.)
I do however wonder if 3 syllables might sound better with [name_u]Jann[/name_u]? They all sound a wee bit abrupt to me. Have you thought of anything longer?
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u] - how about [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]?
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u] - how about [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]?
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]Jann[/name_u] - [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]/[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]? nn [name_f]Cora[/name_f]
I have to admit, you guys have great taste! [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Camille[/name_f], and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] were all on my original list but have so far been vetoed by hubby. I’m hoping he might change his mind though (and showing him this thread might help!).
The 3 syllables is definitely something to consider! I much prefer [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] (or [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] as [name_u]James[/name_u] is another big family name on his side), and keep hoping DH will change his mind !
I have a [name_m]Will[/name_m]! And I’m very biased, but I think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] goes perfectly with [name_m]Will[/name_m]. My second choice for you would be [name_f]Clara[/name_f].
