I am currently in the planning stage of a story in which the main character/narrarator’s name is [name]Niall[/name] (the [name]Nile[/name] pronunciation/version).
[name]Niall[/name] is Irish (which you might’ve guessed already), but in the story he falls for his best friend, who is English. I’d like to do something traditionally British, and not too uncommon. For surnames I’m thinking either [name]Lowry[/name] or Andrews.
I’ve been brainstorming for days, and I just can’t think of anything that goes with [name]Niall[/name]! Anything with an “n” or “l” just doesn’t seem to work. A hard “i” sound is a problem as well! Names like “[name]Lily[/name]”, “[name]Dawn[/name]”, and “[name]Lacey[/name]” clash.
Any ideas?
(On a side note, her best friend is also named [name]Kate[/name] so something like [name]Kelly[/name] would be a little too matchy-matchy.)

[name]Gwendolyn[/name], nn [name]Gwen[/name] or [name]Wendy[/name], I’ve thought about…just doesn’t do much for me along with [name]Niall[/name].
The more I think about [name]Iris[/name], the more it grows on me…surprisingly the “i” sounds don’t actually clash all that much with this one.
[name]Phillipa[/name] I love, but I’m not sure how that would be with [name]Kate[/name]! Could make for a nice running joke, though.

[name]Ara[/name] might be an okay nickname for [name]Araminta[/name]…or [name]Minnie[/name]. I’d hate to use [name]Minty[/name]…

I think you should go with [name]Philippe[/name] nn [name]Pippa[/name]- it goes well with [name]Niall[/name] and I think it would be a great running joke with her friend [name]Kate[/name]. It’s the right combo interesting, vintage, and wearable.
