Our girls both have middle names that are twists on family names. [name]Eliza[/name] (for [name]Elizabeth[/name]) and [name]Leona[/name] (for [name]Leonard[/name]). Since this child may be our last, I want to incorporate a few other family members into the middle names. My sisters name is [name]Karen[/name], my grandmothers is [name]Mary[/name] (thus, using [name]Maren[/name]). And we have the names [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Ann[/name], and [name]Eileen[/name] to use as well, so, [name]Evangeline[/name]…a bit of a stretch for this one using those 3 inspirations, especially with spelling, but I think it would make the 2 living women we would like to honor happy enough.
2 middle names is fine with me, one of our children has 2 middle names so it would be neat to give another 2 as well. My only issue is that so far, each member of our little family has either E or L as their middle name (or, first in [name]Linus[/name]'s case). Granted there is an E middle name, but it is the second one here. [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Maren[/name] does not sound as nice with our 1 syllable last name (beginning with an M none the less) but [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Maren[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] does…
Thoughts? My husband loves [name]Blythe[/name], but the type A-ness with him when it comes to labeling items around the house meant for specific people (like cups etc) says there will be 2 family members with names beginning with the letter B. Not enough to make us not use it, but, that is out there too.
I like that its a known name, but not in the top 1000 at least at last check for the last few years on the SSA website. Strange though because I’ve seen it featured recently in the Pottery [name]Barn[/name] Kids catalog as a name on one of their monogrammed childrens chairs…but I do not see it climbing up to the top ten any time soon. I do not want another name like my daughter [name]Violet[/name] that is now popping up everywhere (which, no regrets as the name really fits her and was chosen for meaning) , and I feel like [name]Blythe[/name] could gain popularity but not top 100 even any time soon. (And the whole “popularity” thing is only my own issues as I grew up a [name]Jennifer[/name] born in the late 70’s…)
I really like [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Maren[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]! And it goes so well with your other children. I wouldn’t worry about where the “E” name is–it’s still one of her MNs, I wouldn’t worry too much about which MN it is. Then again, I was prepared to do [name]Rachel[/name] _____ [name]Evangeline[/name] for my sister (whose initials are RE, with no initial in between!).
I really like it too. I normally am hesitant to embrace three given names in the US, but the family significance trumps. It’s three uncommon, evocative names with optimal cadence rolled into one. Great job-- really a stunner.
(I also think BME = biomedical engineering, but I’m sure that’s idiosyncratic. :))
I too am not usually a fan of 2 middle names. [name]Linus[/name] has 2 mn’s because they were chosen for meaning, strong enough on both that we felt they needed to be used. (Something I swore I would never do, ever,…and yet, I am now talking about doing it again, lol!)
On my immediate side of the family, I have one parent who is a dr, one who is a retired nurse and an a sister who is a nurse so I did think of BME actually if you can believe it…of course I had the whole “BM” comment made by them after [name]Bronwen[/name] was born (my sister works float in pediatrics and she was the first to say it) but to the average non-medically minded person this is not a big deal. So little [name]Blythe[/name] (if we do have a girl, and we do choose this name) will also be a BM, and a BME (M).
However, the lack of an E middle name (in the 1st spot – but it’s in the 2nd so I can get over it) and the initials/labeling get me. The first letter would be a problem for me because I do alot with first letters like your husband. It helps in big families. I also use colors (but we’re running out of them!) for kids sometimes too. So I could see maybe having two B’s-- one male and one female where we’d focus on girly or boy (yes, I am sexist like that) colors for that child. Two girl B’s though causes some issues for me, but it’s not my family! Does your older daughter us a nn? Our dd, [name]Scarlett[/name] goes by [name]Carly[/name] alot of the time so in theory I could see myself putting a “C” on her cup if we were absolutely in love with another S girl name. This is my opinion and I know it’s silly and I probably could get over it in my family if this were “the name” (I do love it for you guys!).
I like the flow of [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] too so if you wanted to substitute something else in for [name]Maren[/name] ([name]Karen[/name]), you could try:
[name]Kara[/name]
[name]Karalyn[/name]
[name]Caralee[/name]
[name]Carys[/name]
[name]Taryn[/name]
[name]Karlin[/name]
[name]Carlene[/name]
[name]Renata[/name]/[name]Renate[/name]/[name]Irene[/name] -going off the “ren” part of [name]Karen[/name]
I love it! [name]Maren[/name] and [name]Evangeline[/name] are two of my favorite names and [name]Blythe[/name] is very pretty. I think the order you have it in sounds great and like the idea of adding another double mn baby to your family. Honoring family members is just a bonus in this case, but I especially love how many people you are including with [name]Evangeline[/name]. Congrats and good luck! =]
I’m not a fan of two middle names as well. I agreed with ashthedreamer that you don’t have to worry about the missing E since [name]Evangeline[/name] is the second mn. I think your combo is really pretty. [name]Love[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] as it a very unique name without being too out there.
I honestly think [name]Bronwen[/name] would love having a sister with the same first letter as her name, she is easy going and happy for things like that (and already having a sister, having another would be a huge bonus to her, ha!). We do colors too, but have gotten out of that sort of, [name]Violet[/name] always gets purple (surprised?) so I am not as worried about the initials thing as my husband is…
Now our last name is one syllable, so [name]Blythe[/name] seems a bit choppy, but the more I say it the more I like it and figure many would get used to it. That is another thing that holds me back, slightly, we just both love the name regardless and the combo too.
