Girls List - Opinions!

I have a rather lengthy list… honest feedback including how you think the names are pronounced is appreciated! I’m not easily offended so want to hear what you all think!

[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Ella[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Amelie[/name]
[name]Eilidh[/name]
[name]Juliette[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Arden[/name]

[name]Elodie[/name] - Not really a fan of. [name]Just[/name] personally don’t like the sound.
[name]Ella[/name] - Really cute. Also popular now.
[name]Claire[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it. Cute and classic. Very sweet.
[name]Emmeline[/name] - Really cute
[name]Elise[/name] - I like it.
[name]Amelie[/name] - Although I like the movie, I prefer [name]Amelia[/name] much more.
[name]Eilidh[/name] - Unless you’re from [name]Ireland[/name], people are gonna have pronunciation and spelling problems
[name]Juliette[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name. Has a very romantic and classic feel.
[name]Penelope[/name] - Also really like.
[name]Arden[/name] - I like it, but not really in love with it.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Ella[/name], even though it is very popular now, and I love [name]Juliette[/name].

Like your list overall!! It’s pretty and feminine girls names yet without a lot of frills or froth. Exactly what I like.

[name]Elodie[/name] - Sounds too much like [name]Melody[/name] too me which is in my mind a trashy 80’s style name.
[name]Ella[/name] - Cute but beware, extremely popular. I am a teacher and in my first year of teaching alone i had three, all under the age of six. It’s popular and therefore isn’t unique or special anymore. Not my recommendation. See my anecdote about my own name below.
[name]Claire[/name] - Nice and classic but lacks spunk or shine.
[name]Emmeline[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name! I am myself an [name]Emma[/name] which is heard everywhere, not usually among my generation but still everywhere. I hate being [name]Emma[/name] Last-Initial and often feel anonymous for having such a common name. It is a classic and I do prefer it over many other names. I think by adding on or using a variation it makes it much more unique and special.
[name]Elise[/name] - I like this one but think there are close alternatives that are better such as [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Elena[/name], [name]Elaina[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Ellison[/name] or [name]Ellis[/name].
[name]Amelie[/name] - Really nice! I really like this one!
[name]Eilidh[/name] - I’m a teacher like I said and I see a lot of names. It looks like it may be pretty but I don’t know where to start with saying this one aloud. Yikes! That will always pose a problem through your child’s life.
[name]Juliette[/name] - Beautiful! [name]Love[/name] the literary reference and it is so elegant. Prefer [name]Juliet[/name] spelling better but doesn’t make much of a difference.
[name]Penelope[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]! Was on my list till the Kardashians used it but thats only because I’m a big fan and people might think I’m playing homage to them! [name]Love[/name] this though!
[name]Arden[/name] - Reminds me of makeup and accessory stores. Not a fan at all. Much pretty names on your list.

[name]Elodie[/name]: I like [name]Elodie[/name]. I live in a french community and I was always surprised that it is not more popular here. I pronounce it AY-low-dee in french and [name]Ell[/name]-low-dee in English.
[name]Ella[/name]: Too trendy and overused. Between all the Ellas and Bellas running around, it lost all its appeal.
[name]Claire[/name]: [name]One[/name] of my favorites. I still prefer [name]Clara[/name] though.
[name]Emmeline[/name]: I pronounce it [name]Em[/name]-muh-line. I like it, but the pronunciation issues bug me.
[name]Elise[/name]: I like [name]Elise[/name], I don’t consider it dated although some might. It is sleek and elegant.
[name]Amelie[/name]: I prefer [name]Amelia[/name] or [name]Emily[/name].
[name]Eilidh[/name]: I would have to look up how to pronounce it.
[name]Juliette[/name]: I prefer [name]Juliet[/name], it seems more streamline and less frilly. I really like it a lot!
[name]Penelope[/name]: Not bad, love the nickname [name]Penny[/name].
[name]Arden[/name]: I think it is very pretty.

Here goes:

[name]Elodie[/name]- Pretty! I think short, sweet E- names are in overkill, but this one is at least less popular and three syllables.
[name]Ella[/name]- Prefer [name]Elodie[/name] for reasons mentioned above.
[name]Claire[/name]- [name]Elodie[/name] is more intruguing…[name]Clare[/name] is my mn and I’ve always received compliments.
[name]Emmeline[/name]- See my comments about E- names on [name]Elodie[/name], which I prefer.
[name]Elise[/name]- Classic. Great sister to [name]Claire[/name].
AmeliLe- Fun. Sweet.
[name]Eilidh[/name]- A personal fave for years!
[name]Juliette[/name]- [name]Lovely[/name]. Great sister name to [name]Elodie[/name] or [name]Amelie[/name].
[name]Penelope[/name]- Beautiful name. About to really soar, though.
[name]Arden[/name] - I love it! A personal fave.

Thank you for the fabulous feedback! Keep it coming!

[name]Elodie[/name] - Eh, this is okay. I think it sounds prettier in the original French (el-oh-[name]DEE[/name]) than how it would most likely be pronounced in English ([name]EL[/name]-oh-dee). For this reason, I wouldn’t use this name.
[name]Ella[/name] - Pretty, but as others have mentioned SO popular these days. I wouldn’t use this just because there would be many, many other little Ellas your daughter would encounter.
[name]Claire[/name] - Sort of boring. Okay as a middle name, I suppose, but then again, it’s SUCH a common middle name. I love [name]Clara[/name] as a first or middle, though!
[name]Emmeline[/name] - Really pretty. I love this name - but only with the -line ending, not -lyn. That makes it sound trendy rather than classic, in my opinion.
[name]Elise[/name] - Boring, I think. I like [name]Eliza[/name] better. Also, [name]Annelise[/name]/[name]Anneliese[/name] is really pretty.
[name]Amelie[/name] - Nice, but better in French.
[name]Eilidh[/name] - NO clue how to pronounce this. Avoid!
[name]Juliette[/name] - I adore this name, but prefer the spelling [name]Juliet[/name]. Either way, though, it’s lovely.
[name]Penelope[/name] - Lately I’ve been into this name a lot. I really like it! Seems it’s getting more popular, though.
[name]Arden[/name] - No, no. I suppose it has a nice sound, but sounds super trendy.

I like:

[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]

Wow - thank you!

[name]Elodie[/name] - I like this French name. It’s pronounced like [name]Melody[/name] without the “m”.
[name]Ella[/name] - Not a fan. Overused, overexposed and lacking in substance.
[name]Claire[/name] - Short, simple and sweet. Sometimes less is more.
[name]Emmeline[/name] - Gorgeous! This is an old name that was brought to [name]England[/name] by the Normans so I pronounce it the French/British way “[name]EM[/name]-uh-leen”.
[name]Elise[/name] (el-EEZ) - Pretty name with a great musical connection.
[name]Amelie[/name] (French “ah-may-[name]LEE[/name]”) - Soft and romantic.
[name]Eilidh[/name] - pronounced “ay-lee” - I like this name but it sounds so cutesy and childish that it may not age well.
[name]Juliette[/name] - I prefer [name]Juliet[/name]. This ornate French spelling has more emphasis on the end syllable.
[name]Penelope[/name] (puh-[name]NEL[/name]-uh-pee) - I prefer [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name] or [name]Persephone[/name] myself. [name]Penelope[/name] is hot right now and will surge in popularity with the Kardashian baby.
[name]Arden[/name] - [name]One[/name] of the few unisex names I like. Pronounced as written.

[name]Elodie[/name] (el-O-dee) - eh cute but I strongly prefer [name]Melody[/name].
[name]Ella[/name] (ell-uh) [name]LOVE[/name]! I knw it’s popular but it’s just so stunning!
[name]Claire[/name] ( rhyming with bear) - [name]Clara[/name] is my number one but if tvwasnt [name]Claire[/name] would be on my lust somewhere too
[name]Emmeline[/name] ([name]Emma[/name]-line is my favorite but the leen ending has grown on me a lot. I think both are completely valid though). I think is one of the sweetest names I know. It just makes me think of an adorable smiley girl
[name]Elise[/name] (eh-leese is the closest I think) its so elegant without being too overbearing. Seems like a ballerina too me
[name]Amelie[/name] (ah-mill-ee) I think it’s adorable I go back and forth between it and [name]Amelia[/name] right now I prefer [name]Amelia[/name] though.
[name]Eilidh[/name] (ay-lee) I love this name but the pronunciation issues scare me from using it.
[name]Juliette[/name] (Joo-lee-ETTE) I love it. The only reason it isn’t on my lsit is beacause I prefer [name]Julia[/name].
[name]Penelope[/name] (pen-ell-o-pee) I love it but it never sticks on my list. I would love to meet a [name]Penelope[/name] though
[name]Arden[/name] (like garden without the G). It makes me think of perfume. I don’t like it but I don’t hate it by any means

[name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Juliette[/name], and [name]Penelope[/name] are my favorites!

In order of my preference:

[name]Penelope[/name] - this name is magic to me, it may get popular now though
[name]Emmeline[/name] - love, love, love. I say the leen ending
[name]Juliette[/name] - love this but prefer [name]Juliet[/name] spelling
[name]Elodie[/name] - okay

I think these names would be wonderful middles paired with the names above
[name]Ella[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Amelie[/name]

[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Ella[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name] [name]Elise[/name] or [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Claire[/name]

[name]Elodie[/name] - Not a personal fan, I prefer [name]Eloise[/name].
[name]Ella[/name] - Cute, but too popular.
[name]Claire[/name] - Never been a fan of Cla- names for girls, I’ve only just warmed to [name]Clara[/name].
[name]Emmeline[/name] - A new name love of mine, gorgeous!
[name]Elise[/name] - Not a fan, but it’s nice enough.
[name]Amelie[/name] - Much nicer than [name]Emily[/name].
[name]Eilidh[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the look of this name, I just wish it was pronounced eye-lee. I do however think it would be a bit too cutesy for a grown woman.
[name]Juliette[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name], just not a personal fan. I also prefer the [name]Juliet[/name] spelling.
[name]Penelope[/name] - Cute, especially with the nickname [name]Nell[/name].
[name]Arden[/name] - Very different from your other choices, however it is a name I rather like on both males and females.

[name]Elodie[/name] - I would pronounce it [name]EL[/name]-O-[name]DEE[/name]. I don’t love it or hate it.
[name]Ella[/name] - I think it is adorable. I would never use this name for a child because of the popularity, but even though it is super popular I still love it and think any girl with this name has a good name!
[name]Claire[/name] - [name]Way[/name] too old fashioned
[name]Emmeline[/name] - I have no idea how to say it. [name]Em[/name]-E-[name]Line[/name]? I don’t like the look of it.
[name]Elise[/name] - [name]EL[/name]-lease would be how I might say it. Not a huge fan.
[name]Amelie[/name] - [name]Ah[/name]-MAH-[name]LEE[/name]. I don’t care for it. Too popular and trendy in a fleeting way.
[name]Eilidh[/name] - I don’t know what to make of this name. I don’t know how to say it and I would forget how to spell it. The only name on this list that I hate.
[name]Juliette[/name] - Gorgeous, prettiest name of the bunch.
[name]Penelope[/name] - [name]Adore[/name] it
[name]Arden[/name] - R-[name]DEN[/name] is how I would pronounce it. I like it but I don’t love it.

[name]Elodie[/name] - This is on my long list of names, but I am getting more and more hesitant because I think it will end up being pronounced with an emphasis on the E in [name]North[/name] [name]America[/name]…EH lo dee. I much prefer the French pronunciation, ay lo [name]DEE[/name]. Everytime I talk to anyone about the name they say it back to me EH lo dee.
[name]Ella[/name] - Sweet, but so popular.
[name]Claire[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it, very classic and no frills. Would wear well on a little girl and into adulthood.
[name]Emmeline[/name] - I would worry about pronunciation on this one.
[name]Elise[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this, lots of great nicknames could come from this one too. I pronounce it eh [name]LEESE[/name].
[name]Amelie[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the movie, but I would long associate this name with the movie if I met an [name]Amelie[/name], not sure if that would bother you or not.
[name]Eilidh[/name] - NO idea how to pronounce this one. EE lid?
[name]Juliette[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it and can see no pronunciation issues on this one. Lots of pretty nickname options with this one too.
[name]Penelope[/name] - Not crazy about it, but still really like it. [name]Poppy[/name] would be a cute nickname.
[name]Arden[/name] - Not really a fan of this one. Has a bit of a hard sound.

[name]Elodie[/name] - [name]Elle[/name]-oh-dee is how I would pronounce. Very pretty. Like that you can used [name]Elle[/name] as a nn.
[name]Ella[/name] - Very simple for my tastes, but sweet.
[name]Claire[/name] - Not a fan, but not terrible.
[name]Emmeline[/name] - [name]Emme[/name]-uh-lin is how I pronounce, as one of my nieces is named this. I love it, but with that pronunciation prefer [name]Emmalin[/name] for the spelling.
[name]Elise[/name] - I have bad associations with this name, so my opinion is tainted.
[name]Amelie[/name] - I want to like this one, but I just can’t help but think of how much it would be confused with [name]Emily[/name].
[name]Eilidh[/name] - I love love love [name]Eilidh[/name]. I, personally, want to use it, but only as a middle because of pronunciation concerns in the US.
[name]Juliette[/name] - I like [name]Juliette[/name], it is pretty. And the French spelling is my favorite, it looks much more substatial.
[name]Penelope[/name] - A favorite of mine that I can’t use for a number of reasons. Especially love the nicknake potential, as I and my family are very into nicknames. [name]Penny[/name], [name]Poppy[/name], [name]Pippa[/name], [name]Lola[/name], [name]Nell[/name]… so good.
[name]Arden[/name] - This is the name of a character in one of my stories. Who is a man. So this leans a bit masculine for me.

[name]Elodie[/name] - I really, really like this name. It makes me so sad to hear that people think it’s trendy just because it’s getting a bit more popular. I’ve loved this name for at least 15 years. I put a strong emphasis on the last syllable, so, to me, it doesn’t even sound too similar to [name]Melody[/name]. I say ay-loe-[name]DEE[/name] or, if I’m being lazy, ell-uh-[name]DEE[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] - Pretty and inoffensive.
[name]Claire[/name] - There’s something so beautiful about simple [name]Claire[/name]. Its common use sadly makes it a bit boring as a first though.
[name]Emmeline[/name] - I have a soft spot for this name, but be careful about pronunciation problems. I’m a -LEEN girl, so prn: em-uh-LEEN
[name]Elise[/name] - This name has bad associations for me, but I guess it’s fine I generally say eh-[name]LEESE[/name] (although I knew a girl who said it uh-LEEZE-uh)
[name]Amelie[/name] - The association with the [name]Jean[/name]-[name]Pierre[/name] Jeunet film makes this name all the more endearing, not unusable. It’s been a name long before the movie, and the movie is awesome! (ah-may-[name]LEE[/name])
[name]Eilidh[/name] - She’ll likely have pronunciation issues with this when travelling abroad, if that’s an issue for you. I’ve never met anyone with this name, but I’d say ay-lee
[name]Juliette[/name] - Romantic and feminine and the sounds are hard not to like. It’s very pretty. With this spelling in particular, I’d say joo-lee-ETTE
[name]Penelope[/name] - my cat’s name, so clearly I’m a fan! (prn: pe-[name]NEL[/name]-oh-pee)
[name]Arden[/name] - I knew an older woman named [name]Ardith[/name] growing up, and this name just makes me think of that. All of the names on your list are quite feminine - except for this one! (prn: ARE-den)

Thank you all for this valuable feedback!

I think my favorites are now:
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Eilidh[/name] (pn ay-lee) - we do have an Irish/Scottish background, so there is some significance to us.
[name]Clara[/name]

In that order! I also love [name]Emma[/name], but worry it’s too common, but maybe the same can be said for [name]Penelope[/name] now!
