Not really a question --but I have tripped onto an amazing girl name and wish I was having a girl so I could use it. I’m a journalist and I just interviewed a young woman named Faryal --pronounced Fair-EE-uhl I [name]LOVE[/name] that the name is a kind of nature-y (starts with “[name]Fairy[/name]”) It rhymes with [name]Ariel[/name], but not as Disney-esque. She’s South [name]Asian[/name] so I imagine the name is too. It’s definitely going on my future girl list and I had to share.
At first glance it looks like it would be pronounced Feral. Which is not good lol.
Looks kinda like feral lol
Yeah, I have to agree that spelling is not attractive. The sound is nice, but I prefer the simpler [name]Ariel[/name].
There is a similar Arabic and Turkish name Feryal/Feriel/Firyal. There was a [name]Princess[/name] of [name]Egypt[/name] named Feriel and a princess of [name]Jordan[/name] named Firyal. I think it’s very soft, feminine and pretty.
I’m not sure how I feel about Faryal. I have never heard that name before and I thought it was Feral before I read Rhymes with [name]Ariel[/name]. I would probably choose a different spelling because the ‘Y’ looks out of place to me. I like the spellings Feriel (as mischa said) and Fariel better.
I think it’s lovely.
Yes, I’d tweak the spelling for sure. She introduced herself and it just sounded SO charming. I ask for spellings at the end of interviews, so at that point I was well immersed in how I might improve the spelling. I just love something entirely fresh but not made up. this was both!
I think it’s beautiful. It would probably come off better in the context of its original culture, though, where nobody would be likely to make the ‘feral’ connection (which didn’t actually cross my mind).
