[name]Hi[/name] all!
Our 4th is due in [name]June[/name], a sibling for [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Jude[/name] and [name]Iris[/name]. I think we have pretty much decided on [name]Arlo[/name] for a boy but I’m suffering from baby name fatigue for a girl! (All those years of obsession and now nothing seems fresh or seems to excite me!)
[name]Indigo[/name] (nn indi) was a front runner but I’ve always though of my style as being vintage/classic and I’m starting to wonder if [name]Indigo[/name] seems a bit fadish?!
Other names I’ve loved in the past but some how just don’t seem quite right are
[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Esme[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
As you can see quite a small list! My husband is pretty laid back and can usually be convinced (though he does hate [name]Pearl[/name]!) So any suggestions gratefully received!
Thank you !xxxx
[name]Eloise[/name] is a very feminine name and of course, [name]Iris[/name] is a beautiful flower, so I think another feminine name would work well with those two.
I wouldn’t use [name]Indigo[/name] given that it starts with an I, like [name]Iris[/name], and really is significantly more hippie-trendy than your other children’s names, which I would describe as vintage. Your boys’ choice, [name]Arlo[/name], fits perfectly.
[name]Celeste[/name], [name]Eloise[/name] and [name]Iris[/name] is a whole lot of S sound, leaving poor [name]Jude[/name] as the odd man out. [name]Esme[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name] are too close.
[name]Pearl[/name] really is perfect-- hits all the right notes. Same vintage style, but has its own sounds, and is monosyllabic like [name]Jude[/name]. If your husband hates it, he hates it.
It seems me you prefer non-frilly girls’ names with an antique, vintage flavor. Ideas:
I like [name]Pearl[/name] - it’s “vintage” but crisp, clean, sophisticated - like the names you chose for your first three.
PP’s suggestions of [name]Daphne[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] are so gorgeous!
[name]Pearl[/name] fits your set very nicely, but if your husband dislikes it…and I wouldn’t use [name]Indigo[/name]. I have a weird color name, and I’ve never liked it–ever.
I love [name]Arlo[/name], and I think it goes perfectly with your other children’s names!
I agree that [name]Indigo[/name] doesn’t quite fit with your other children’s names. It’s not a bad name, but it sticks out a lot with [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Jude[/name], and [name]Iris[/name]. I also don’t love the fact that it begins with an I like [name]Iris[/name] does.
[name]Pearl[/name] came to mind as soon as I read [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Jude[/name], and [name]Iris[/name], before I had read your list. I really like [name]Celeste[/name], [name]Esme[/name], and [name]Pearl[/name] and think that they would all fit in really well with your other kids’ names, but if they aren’t right then they aren’t right.
You want something a little different that will still fit in with the names of your other children, who have vintage classic style names? It could work. [name]Indigo[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Jude[/name]… I like it. I’m not of the opinion that sibling names should be perfectly matched in all areas, but here are other ideas…
Ooooh I’m loving some of the suggestions, thanks everyone!
We’re in the U.K so sadly [name]Pheobe[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name] are all too popular over here.
Its interesting that [name]Hazel[/name] was mentioned as that’s my name!
You’ve reminded me of some forgotten old crushes like [name]Delphine[/name], [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Coral[/name], [name]Cleo[/name] and [name]Cosette[/name]- I’m also a big fan of [name]Wren[/name] but I fear this will fall into the category of names that DH thinks I’ve made up!
I can’t quite let go of [name]Pearl[/name]- - especially name you guys have given it the thumbs up! Also as the birth stone for [name]June[/name] and as the baby and I will probably share this birth month (due date is my birthday!) it would nice to acknowledge that in the babies name! Is anyone worries about a spurt of Pearls since [name]Jack[/name] [name]Osborne[/name]'s recent addition? I could live with a name that had been consistently popular but I get cold sweats at the thought of one that was part of a brief phase!
Thanks berries!
