Girls Name Ideas

I would love some thoughts on my current girl favorites and suggestions for additions. My naming style is classic, but I also like the preppy/southern/surname styles. I don’t want anything too trendy or with “unusual” spellings. Our last name is [name]Egan[/name].

Current Favorites:
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Elisabeth[/name] ([name]Elsa[/name] or [name]Elsie[/name] for NN)
[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Emma[/name] (though it’s way too popular right now)
[name]Kate[/name]
[name]Emilia[/name]
[name]Grace[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name]

Others that I’ve been liking lately, but may be too surname-y/trendy:
[name]Carson[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name]
[name]Collins[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name]
[name]Emerson[/name]

Please let me know what you think. I am open to opinions and suggestions. Thanks!

Current Favorites:
[name]Claire[/name] - Sleek, nice, but it just doesn’t do anything for me. It’s the sort of name the girl next door would have. [name]Delphine[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Elisabeth[/name] ([name]Elsa[/name] or [name]Elsie[/name] for NN) - [name]Love[/name] the name, but with a z. The s spelling isn’t bad though. [name]Elsie[/name] is cute, but I prefer [name]Lizzy[/name]. [name]Jane[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Louisa[/name] - [name]Love[/name]! That and [name]Louise[/name], so pretty and underused! [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Mary[/name], [name]Amy[/name], [name]Yvonne[/name], [name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name] - I like the Old Hollywood feel, but the name itself isn’t my style. [name]Adrienne[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Ingrid[/name]
[name]Emma[/name] - Sweet and gentle but yes, extremely popular. [name]Eliora[/name], [name]Elle[/name], [name]Faye[/name], [name]Lottie[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name]/[name]Carlotta[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Kate[/name] - I prefer a fuller version like [name]Catherine[/name] or [name]Carina[/name]; as a nickname, it’s very spunky. [name]Katerina[/name], [name]Lyra[/name], [name]Catalina[/name]
[name]Emilia[/name] - I prefer [name]Amelia[/name], but I can see the appeal. [name]Elowen[/name], [name]Junia[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Geneva[/name], [name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Grace[/name] - I like virtue names, but for some reason, this one doesn’t really appeal to me. [name]Amity[/name], [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Faith[/name], [name]Constance[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name] - I really, really like [name]Hannah[/name]. She’s so sweet and dainty. [name]Anastasia[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] - [name]Love[/name]! I want to use this as a middle name some day. [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Wilhelmina[/name], [name]Araminta[/name], [name]Marina[/name]

Others that I’ve been liking lately, but may be too surname-y/trendy:
[name]Carson[/name] - I prefer this one on a boy.
[name]Sawyer[/name] - I really like this for a girl. I think it’s so adventurous and high spirited.
[name]Collins[/name] - Never got the appeal of this ones. I prefer this one as a surname only.
[name]Hollis[/name] - I really like this. I always thought it had a pretty sound to it.
[name]Emerson[/name] - Trendy, but I see the appeal of it as a way to get [name]Emmy[/name].

[name]Claire[/name]-It’s simple, pretty and classic. However, I find it a tad boring. I think it’s better used as a middle name.

[name]Elisabeth[/name]-I prefer this spelling over [name]Elizabeth[/name]. It’s softer and more feminine [name]IMO[/name]. You can’t really go wrong with this name. It’s a timeless classic. The only concern I would have with using it, is popularity but if that doesn’t bother you go for it. I also really like your nn options also.

[name]Louisa[/name]-I’m not a fan of this name at all, sorry. [name]IMO[/name], it screams old lady.

[name]Audrey[/name]-This is probably my favorite from your list. I think of [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn, eternal class and style. I also like [name]Audrina[/name].

[name]Emma[/name]-I agree is [name]WAY[/name] too popular. I wouldn’t personally use it. Why not [name]Emmeline[/name] nn [name]Emma[/name]?

[name]Kate[/name]-Sounds more like a nickname. [name]How[/name] about [name]Katelyn[/name] or [name]Katherine[/name] nn [name]Kate[/name]?

[name]Emilia[/name]-Not my personal style but it is an all around nice name. It’s not as common as [name]Emily[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name] and it offers up some cute nn’s like [name]Mimi[/name], [name]Mia[/name] or [name]Emmy[/name].

[name]Grace[/name]-It’s a beautiful name but again there is the popularity issue. I think out of all the names you’ve listed, [name]Grace[/name] is going to be the most popular not only as a first name but as a middle name also. Think of how many little girls have the middle name [name]Grace[/name]. Although very beautiful and timeless, I think it’s considered more of a “filler name” these days.

[name]Hannah[/name]-Not my style, sorry.

[name]Cecilia[/name]-This name was actually on my list for a while but DH didn’t go for it. The only thing that bothers me about the name is the meaning. It means blind which stinks because it’s a beautiful name otherwise. I also really like [name]Cecily[/name] which isn’t as common.

As for your second list, the only name I like is [name]Sawyer[/name]. I think it’s a refreshing name that isn’t very common but I personally think it’s too masculine for a little girl and it differs a lot from your other names.
